As far for 50mm f/1.8, the G is better than the D. In terms of wide open sharpness, bokeh and also AF accuracy.

However, I would personally pick the D7000 combination because D7000 has a twin dial which I like better than the single dial of the D5100.
*
Does that mean that you will pay the additional ~RM450 for the AFS 50mm f/1.8 instead of taking the AFD version?

Secondly, any thoughts on AFS DX 55-300 f/4.5-5.6 (RM1000) vs AF 70-300 f/4-5.6 (RM550)?

Just wanted to add that I would be using the camera mainly to take family/kids and vacation photos.

go 55-300.
if on a budget, 55-200.
anything but the 70-300, unless ur willing to spend for the VR version.

Yes, I would pay the extra for the f/1.8G instead of f/1.8D.

The 55-300 has VR right? You're gonna need it. f/4 - f/5.6 aperture you're not getting a lot of light indoor, and its a tele lens. Image quality wise, no comments but if I were to comment its best you take something with VR. If its a f/2.8 then you can opt to skip the VR since you're getting more stop of light in.

Hmm, oh well didn't exactly liked that one since there's the bigger f/1.4D and f/1.4G around biggrin.gif.

Can u share how much the pricey? Couldn't find this spec ni garage sales. But if I took 28-300 most likely I will under utilize my kit lens tho. I think my mistake is buying together with the kit lens, should buy body only then pair it with this range of lens sweat.gif
I don't have this lens nor have I held it in my hands. Just came across some positive user reviews.

Shashinki list the lens at RM 3k.

^ya , i hope the performance will be better or on par with canon compact/ EVIL camera product...

because canon seems dominating in that market...  hmm.gif
The Canon only "seem" to dominate that market but the real champ is the Oly XZ-1. Nikon has no equal unfortunately. Sad but true.

Ditch the 24mm f/2.8.

I thought body only is slightly less than 3k so my guess is that the pricing looks ok. The question now is do you want the older 50mm f/1.8D (given "FOC") or the newer 50mm f/1.8G?

dont bother buying from camera shops in big shopping complexes.
go YL camera jln pudu / pjsec14, or perhaps d'classic / j-one in amcorp mall.
should be able to get below rm3k body only + 4gb or 8gb card + bag.
with 50mm its about rm300 extra.
