I am contemplating getting a motobike/scooter to move about.
Is that feasible?... I heard stories.

You can just stay at those travellers lodges around CBD/bugis. Not very expensive. Anyway there is a place across City Square RM50 a night.  Looks dodgy but you get a bed and hot shower plus aircon and at night you can see hookers from your window.

Bike insurance actually depends on the number of riding experience u had. to lower down the insurance cost, convert ur license early.
I got a colleague, riding a 650cc bike. he got 7 years riding experience. his insurance only around $400. road tax around $300+

He gonna be a new rider, not with 7 years experience in Sg. Even if he convert his license, it'll start from scratch.

if wanna withdraw your CPF money as a PR, he/she wont be able to revert back to EP or whatever work passes.....the singapore government will not allow you to work in SG anymore in his/her lifetime.
