Haha the 'chap' you're referring to is actually a she biggrin.gif

You're right, in a way having the bond with Singapore sort of guarantees that my employment pass won't get rejected when I apply for a job but 3 years does tie me down because may not want to work in Singapore that long.

The Ministry of Education gave the tuition grant, is not a scholarship, we didn't even need to apply for it, it's granted, don't even get a chance to reject it!
They're good in tying ppl who they foresee may be potential 'talents' Sad to say, most of us are really just average  sad.gif

you are require to work in SG for any company OR work overseas for a SG registed company. If you want, set up your own company.

Qualified student were given the option of tuition grant. You can decline the offer by not signing the deed (during enrollement phase) and pay the full fees.. I am sure that not all student got the tuition grant and there are people who pay the full fees. Let me know if you really get the grant without you and two other guarantor sign on the deed infront of a MOE officer.

Hmmm, thanks for the input. Once the letter send to my aunt house then I will get my aunt to check for me, as currently based in Vietnam.

Out of curiosity, how did u know it was approved, before u get to see the letter?
They call or email u?
or do you mean there's an approval letter, then they will ask u to wait for a 2nd letter for the required action?

The minimum salary for foreign talent to qualify for an Employment Pass will be raised to $3,000 from $2,800.

At the same time, the educational qualifications requirements will also be tightened.

The tightening measures, which will take effect from January 2012, is aimed at creating a more level playing field between foreigners and locals vying for white collar, professional jobs, said Deputy Prime Minister and Manpower Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam on Tuesday morning.

Speaking at a press conference to release details of the tightening measures, he said Singapore will continue to remain open and attractive to foreign talent.

Q1 Pass: We will tighten the educational qualifications requirements so that only those from good quality institutions will be eligible. We will also move away from the single qualifying salary of $2,800 today. Instead, the applicant will have to earn a salary of at least $3,000, with the requirements depending on his qualifications and experience:
a) Young graduates from good institutions could qualify if they earn at least $3,000
b) Older applicants would have to command higher salaries to qualify, commensurate with the work experience and quality they are expected to bring

Singtel is like TMnet
Starhub is like P1 WiMax
M1 is like Digi Broadband

As for contract wise, Singtel and Starhub wired broadband comes with 24 months contract. While M1 has 6 months contract. If your moving place always, then just get a wireless broadband.

For infrastructure wise, Singtel is the biggest followed by Starhub and than M1. Check if your block is ready for Fibre broadband as it's cheaper compared to ADSL/ Cable broadband.

All Telco ISPs have bundle deal. If you take Broadband TV + Mobile line + Home line + Internet, there will be certain percentage of discount reflected in your monthly bill. So you may want to stick with the same Telco for all your TV/Mobile/Internet needs.

As for price wise, the difference between all 3 Telcos less than 5%.

I'm a Starhub cable TV and cable broadband user and I'm unsatisfied with their service. Call centre average wait time is 20 to 30 minutes.
I'm a SingTel mobile user and I'm satisfied with their service. Call centre average wait time is 5 to 10 minutes.
M1, I've not try them yet so can't give you any personal review on customer service.

But I'll definitely switch everything to Singtel once my Starhub cable broadband contract ends.

Hi guys, just a quick question here.

Well, I was employed with a Singaporean company since March 2011 as a Project Engineer (I had an EP) but I left in late June because I didn't like the nature of the job, which is in construction =/

I found employment with another company as a Design Engineer shortly thereafter and got my IPA approved when the boss suddenly decided that he wants me to relocate to freaking Bintan which wasn't brought up at all during the interview or the contract. I had to refuse him and we tried to work things out but to no avail, so I parted ways with the second company thereafter.

So, second job, IPA approved but I haven't gotten my EP yet.

I was then hired by Dyson very recently as a Design Engineer as well, and they offered me a salary of $3k plus other allowances, which is of course, subject to the approval of EP.

My question is, having had two jobs where I relinquished my EP in the first one and only got as far as an IPA approval in the second one, what are the chances that I would be rejected for an EP? It's probably just me being paranoid, but I would want to know.

p.s. I have a Masters degree from UK and an undergraduate degree from Malaysia, so I hope this counts towards the approval of the EP.

From system they'll think that you are job hopper.

As for the measuring component whether to approve or reject your EP, nobody knows about that. Confidential stuff.

You can appeal if it's rejected.

Right, that was what I was afraid of. sad.gif

I'm kinda hoping that the fact that the second job only got as far as an IPA would not count towards me, but I guess I'd never be able to tell.

So how does one go about appealing for a rejected EP? Thanks a million

After reject, you can consult your HR/ agency. They will assist you in this. I've never actually done mine. I'm on my 3rd EP lesser than 1 year. First company 2 months, second company 5 months, and now 3rd company.

Good luck!

3 EPs in less than a year and you've never been rejected? Well, that takes a load off my mind.

Thanks a bunch, animorph. You've been a great help. Where are you working btw?
