Looks like Sony revised their lens roadmap.

Among the interesting lens is a 40mm f2 OSS coming this year.

Damn I'm still waiting to update to firmware 4. NEX practices the same safety measure like DSLR: Without more than 50% of battery power, you cannot update firmware (for DSLR, mirror lock up for cleaning?). sweat.gif

So I guess have to wait till next charge then only update. laugh.gif

hi rx330 biggrin.gif
for me the peaking really helps because i'm a bit rabun tongue.gif

finally made up my mind to get the NEX-C3 once it's launched officially on July 7th. moving from my good-old-still-rocking A300 for some portability. will get to try out the system end of this month for my Hong Kong trip.

was just wondering, are camera accessories much cheaper in HK? planning to get the case once I am there.

however, was quoted RM1540 for NEX-3K with 8GB. is it a good offer? RM1980 for the twin lens kit.

RM20 blower kit + cotton buds and cleaning cloth from Selangor Photo @ Pertama Complex KL, near sogo.

By the way, I just registered for the 17th July "Basic Photography Workshop for Sony Alpha". brows.gif

24th there is a shooting trip to Taiping, but I feel intimidated not to join with just Nex and Kit/canon lens, when others have big black dslrs with all sorts of extensions and equipment. Anyone here planning to go?

Depends on what you need.. If you need a true compact then better go for LX5 or S95. Nex-3 is a bit bulkier compared to compacts while definitely a plus if compared to conventional DSLR.

Picture wise.. i guess depends on your skills also. I have a friend does wonders on compact..

Please go test each model, but for technical wise.
Compact cant compare to SLR

you can refer below for spec compare.

I bought my Nex-3 from Sony Style - RM 1599 with pan cake lense + sony screen protector + sony 8GB hg card.
can have option RM 75 to increase the warranty to 3 years.
Which I think is the must because normally my camera spoilt after 1 year used.

One thing Sony provide 12- 24 months interest free installment for credit card purchase.
Which i think is a very good bargain.

I agreed with you, I was a S90 user, but now I just love the feeling of snaping around with Nex.
And the price also not much different if compare to those high end compact.

bro, is the price quoted from a reliable source? mine have not get back to me yet. sad.gif

http://www.sonystyle.com.hk/ss/product/alp...a_nexc3_presale

according to the above link it's HKD4990 and HKD5990 for single and twin lens kit respectively which should convert to around RM1930 and RM2330 for both.

if it's still cheaper in HK even after staff discount locally, will get it in HK when i'm going over end of the month.

but the thing is, does sony products carry international warranty?

Am glad I attended the Basic Alpha course today at Sony Center @ the Curve. Michael Chee was the instructor and it feels that he generously shared his tips and experiences with us. What we learned were practical and applicable. I came in to class with a NEX, thumbup.gif but they kindly lent to me an SLT A33 to use. However, after few hours with the A33 and experienced the swiftness of having more external buttons, I still think I will stick to the NEX.

Overall, recommended to attend as the concepts are the same, but you might want to choose the NEX specific classes.

Definitely will be expensive... but think about! If got a mirror there, will get PDAF!

Of course, quite strange also that they are putting a mirror into their mirrorless camera... haha. If this is really true, I'll hold out on buying the LA-EA1 and wait for this instead biggrin.gif In the meantime play with laoya cheap cheap third party adapter.

Nex-C3 is in store now. First impression is the camera body is really small. The rest is pretty much the same feeling compare to the older brothers

List price at Sony centre

Twin lens kit - 2699
Zoom lens kit - 2199
No pancake kit yet

Added on July 23, 2011, 11:01 amI forgot to say that the body feels quite good to the touch. Non plastiky feeling

Here is a size comparison between the three models

Btw GF3 is also here. Feels the same size as GF2. I went back to molest EP3. now it feels dem heavy and chunky. Some may like the solid feeling I guess. It's also the most expensive

dun understand y the nex 5 needs a seperate button for on n off, y kenot share with the shutter release button?
*
When I was in a country with below 10 degrees temperature and having thick gloves on, was thankful that the NEX-5 power switch can be flicked on. However, I had issues trying to press the 2 other flat softkey buttons . Imagine if the power switch was a tiny recessed button, then nobody in countries with winter seasons would buy it, because they won't be able to switch it on wearing gloves.

Here's a picture from that country, taken with the Nex Kitlens tongue.gif

Hmm.. it was handheld and you 're right 18.0 mm. Exif data: Iso 200, shutter 1/250 sec, F-Stop f/7.1

Not sure, but from the online pics, I think should be no problems turning on the 3's with gloves. It's the 3 soft buttons that give trouble.

hi, just bought the nex-5D two weeks ago the day before bon odori.

loving the camera but i bought it for macro pictures in artificial lighting (using table lamp, whatever). using the 18-55 for macro wasn't as good as i expected because not very focused in some parts.

so question: what kind of lens and adapter is recommended? preferably both items should be under rm1k combined.

sample macro pictures with 18-55mm (sorry, i'm a figure-fag)

For me, I bought NEX5H with 18-200mm, then I will add a pancake lens for light and easy shot.

refer to my post on previous page, i bought RM2899 special offer price at Digital Mall. Includes Ori Sony MSHG Pro Duo & screen protector film. Bargained to get a bag.thumbup.gif
but they charge me for the 67mm Marumi DHG filter a bit expensive after i search it online... doh.gif
the lens is bigger than the NEX5 and heavy. sweat.gif But the Zoom is fantastic!

frankly, i've only used the 16mm once or twice since I bought the camera. depends on what picture you want to take la. I'm more to macro, so the 16mm is pointless for me (but keep just in case).

Some NEX users said mainly use the SEL16F28, some users mainly use SEL1855, and later some said mainly use the SEL18200.
So it really depends on the usage.

My own preference:
So for event, sight seeing - SEL18200
For indoor, shopping, hangout with friends - SEL16F28
Later will buy for play play - CCTV 35mm F1.7

Any experience users can give any good advice? ^^

Hi All Sifu and experts,

Can anyone please guide me or give your valubles advise on this ?
Planning to buy sony nex camera but not sure which one to choose ?
I'm considering between this few models
1) Sony nex 5D =Twin lens $2399
2) Sony Nex 5H=18-200 lens $3099
3) Sony Nex 3D=Twins Lens $2+++
4) Sony Nex C3=Twins Lens $2450

Mainly i will use it for family outing and occassion purpose.
So far i only understand the diferrence between the models
for the megapixel, new and old model.

How about the firmware,is it nex 5 also can be upgraded to the new firmware like C3 ?
In your view ,which one will you all choose ?

Any sifu ,please help ?

Thanks

To those curious about the new HVL-F20S flash, someone over at dpreview.com bought a piece on eBay and released a short review. It's looking great!

http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/readflat...46&changemode=1

Scroll down a little and you can see his sample pictures comparing no flash, stock flash, and then the HVL-F20S.

http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Unused-Sony-Alpha-...7d#ht_500wt_922
Link to Ebay account selling the flash online. About RM500 with shipping from Hong Kong.

both are compact-ish, similar but yet different in many ways. hard to say which is better, more to own preference.
for me i own a Nex 3, great but i wish to have the micro 4/3 many2 lenses and accesories . limited lenses & accesories for now but still good enuf for me  rclxms.gif
and another thing, no remote shutter (non ir/wireless) for nex to play bulb long shutter mode  sad.gif

try look at here (http://snapsort.com/compare/Panasonic-GF3-vs-Sony_Alpha_NEX-5)
very good site, compare by specs and not biased  nod.gif
NEX5 can use with IR Remote, but not NEX3.
Can use with the china make IR remote which is cheaper and simpler than the ori Sony alpha remote.

NEX can be used with most of the lenses by attached to adapter. Pls read through the threads u will see many users using diff lenses!!

allo bro. how do you make them so sharp and lively?? i am using nex-3 with kit lens... and many of them look trash.
i actually prefer skill tweaking, than changing gears/lenses... so please advise on how to shoot.

oh, and i also went there for the 'big cats' match.
*
erm, with the sel16f2.8 i just set small aperture and snap. should get enuf dof for entire pic and f/5.6 and smaller is quite sharp already. nod.gif
with the sal35f/1.8 or manual lenses needs practice, patience and prefer subject that doesn't move much biggrin.gif

also plan/expect what u want to shoot first, like for instance i went to the stadium i know i wont be taking pics of the players (no long2 tele/prime). So that would help u to know what lens to use , which is suitable and wont waste time changing lens (bagi masuk habuk saja =X ). actually i came in quite late, so dont have proper seats (stand at the corridor only cry.gif ) ,also my view of the game is in the pic #2, half blocked by the banner sweat.gif , so look around for something to snap. nod.gif

true, but still the bulb mode without a remote shutter is sorry to say quite useless sad.gif
yup many2 adapter to many2 mount lenses biggrin.gif (would love to try the canon L and leica/voigtlander on my nex whistling.gif ) but what i meant is E mount lenses. Still for now only have 3 plus few coming, hoping for 3rd party makers to cepat2 make rclxms.gif

what screen protectors are you all using for your Nex cameras?

I dont really like those stick-on film kind but i found this GGS thing which has a layer of glass but its still stick-on
http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?act=ST&f...0#entry38033329

or just get the Sony's clip-on protector? Anyone bought these? Usually plastic not too clear and after awhile you'll get scratches on it which blurs the screen somewhat
http://www.sony.com.my/product/pck-lh1em

or get Sony stick-on one - http://www.sony.com.my/product/pck-ls1em

NEX-C3 doesn't support IR remote so kinda hard to do bulb mode is it?

Or should I just get NEX-5. Anyone tried doing timelapse photos?

Ohh this thing looks cool

http://www.dslrbot.com/products-page/iphon...utton-air-mail/

maybe I should get NEX-5 instead of C3

Sony will be announcing two APS DSLRs (including their A77 competitor to the D300s, and rumored to be 24mp), two NEX models, three NEX lenses, at least two Alpha lenses, and a new fast focusing adapter for Alpha lenses on NEX cameras (incorporates phase detect).

The Sony NEX-5N is expected to be a simpler refresh of the NEX-5, with a new sensor.

Yes, I hope that's not true. Hope it's just a miscommunication on the rumor, and a firmware upgrade will allow the older models to use the new viewfinder.

If i were Sony.. i would just increase the viewfinder price.. and made it usable on all other old models...
If not, for some amateur like me, i wont just simply buy a newer model for only the viewfinder .... since the functions are pretty much the same...
Well thts just me....

But from a marketing aspect, if increasing the VF's price, people wont buy the new Nex5/Nex7, thus less profit still LOL~"

Depends on what you are using for. Different ND ratings for different lighting conditions. The variable NDs are great because they normally cover from ND2 up to ND400, so no need to pack several filters. If you're getting a screw-in filter, go for the variable ones for flexibility. One thing to avoid for ND screw in filters are ND grads, where it goes from dark to light. ND Grads you should get a slot-in system like Cokin. This way, you can adjust where you want the gradation to fall off, instead of being stuck in place by the screw-in.

Taking slow shutter during daytime will need a lot of experimentation to find out how many stops you need, but once you're experienced you can calculate the exposure in your head!

that CZ lens will cost more than the Nex-7 body and the body alone is already expensive so total that up, and you will get a lot of non-buyers. They should just sell the Nex-7 body alone with no kit lens. If not you will end up like this again -

Nex-7 + SEL16F28 + SEL1855 sweat.gif

I'm sure the NEX7 could make an interesting toy when coupled with the Zeiss but as the only camera, I don't think my level of zen (also a lot of people) is high enough to just live with only a 24mm lor.

There is a E-mount converter to A-mount, so you can buy A-mount and attach it to the Nex.

Hi guys. I am interested to get hybrid/mirrorless camera but Google around does not get me information that I need. Last week I went to Sony Center and tried NEX-3 and NEX-5. But I still have some questions in my mind that I need clarification:

1. Is NEX is the smallest in size compared to other hybrid/mirrorless cameras in the market?
2. Is there any underwater case for NEX?
3. How is the picture quality? I owned a Sony a550, is it comparable?
4. How is the shooting experience, is it as good as DSLR, allow you to adjust settings such as ISO, aperture and etc?
5. How about taking picture at night, is the bundled flash good enough?

Appreciate if you guys could help me clarify questions above.

1. Well, smallest? Doubt it. I daresay there is smaller ones but Nex has an Aps-C size sensor.

2. Not sure. But a quick google should be enlightening. From google, it is said that there is underwater casings, but the pricing is uncertain.

3. Nex 5 should be similar to A550 if not, slightly better.

4. Yea, you can adjust most perimeters.

5. Bundled flash is quite.. erm.. Well, insufficient~" Sony Nex 7 might come with a sony mount to fit a F43 though lol~"

I went to few shops yesterday and I tried NEX-C3 at Fotokem. The seller said showed me some features and such as red/yellow/blue/green color focus. He said that NEX-3 does not have this feature. Is is true, or we can get it in NEX-3 by upgrading the firmware?

The price differentiation is quite significant, though.

That is not true, you can get those features by just updating the firmware. Well I updated my NEX-3 smile.gif
I think NEX-C3 has a higher price not because of the firmware, but NEX-C3 does have higher MP and longer battery life.

Mean that basically we can get all the functions and features of NEX-C3 by just updating NEX-3's firmware? Found a nice comparison here:

http://snapsort.com/compare/Sony-NEX-C3-vs-Sony_Alpha_NEX-3

-

Another thing is lens. The NEX-3 I surveyed come with pancake 16mm lens is RM200 cheaper than NEX-3 with 18-55mm lens. I have done some readings and some said that the 16mm is a wide lens but only slightly wide than 18-55mm. Will it actually make a big difference if I bought both lens or it will work just great with 18-55mm?

NEX-3 with 16mm looks much more cool, though. biggrin.gif

the thing with this kind of box is that its hard to control the level of humidity inside the box,too dry the rubber parts will become brittle over time,u'll need to open it from time to time to let in some moise

If you guys have been reading the rumors, the old NEX 3 n 5 sensors were having problems at the corners for the pancake lenses.

That's why it's very soft. Heard that the new NEX 7 sensor has some micro lenses which can help.

the 18-200mm review on most site is ok ish
and it is a more proper bokeh machine than micro four third with their larger sensor and lenses,i went trying ep-3 and nex-c3 side by side with their kit lens on some shop few days ago,and even with kit lens nex larger sensor did produce substantially more background isolation than ep-3,no matter how i like bout the micro four third system,i can't give up the capability afforded by a larger sensor format, except if something dramatic is being made by pana/olym to address this
imho, you can always get back some of the sharpness/detail through whatever means, shooting raw, better lens design, technological advancement, but you simply can't make a small sensor becoming large no matter what you like to say, that is the only card hold by sony with their nex i think,i just hope they make use of this advantage as much as possible, not continue create cameras intend for dummy which doesn't care about how big the sensor is

One of the main reason why I ditch my GF1. The Lumix lenses are good but they are not cheap. I don't want to buy anymore into that system cause there's only so much you can do with that M43 sensor.

yah the only cons for the larger sensor is the size of those lens..... though the body is smaller but the size of the lens is not as small the body creating the big lens small body effect.
In the other way round they said the M4/3 lens should be cheaper becoz their size are smaller but then..... i dun see those M4/3 lens being tat much of a cheaper anyway.

IMHO, the whole experience of using the camera (the Zen) is more important than the tech sheet.

As such, I feel that PEN, GF and NEX form factor is really more suited towards pancake lens.

Even with the kit zoom, they all feel fiddly and unbalanced... can't shoot it like a dslr and can't shoot it like a compact also.

Despite always bashing bonzai dslr's .... panny G and GH is the one to go if zoom lens are a must.

Anyway, regarding sensor size... the issue is not bokeh.. you can always fit faster glass on it. And in this case, a smaller sensor is not necessarily at a disadvantage.

Main disadvantage however is the darn dynamic range. You can bokeh a m43 to match a pic from a 5DMk2 but never the DR (unless bracket and shoot hdr thought that's another story).

Lastly, m43 with kit zoom has even a tad less low light capability and roughly same dof as the XZ-1 niah.

But they are cheaper compared with dslr's isn't it?
Like 20mm f1.7 is a touch over 1K niah.... and for dslr, that's considered to be el cheapo category di.

yeah,i still remember the first time i pick up a pen camera and the feeling is wonderful, but i don't think the nex-5 in particular is that bad,the grip is decent, but the thing with nex-5 of other similar mirrorless camera is that they lack the evf and eyepiece,in which it can aids support when u composing picture on it,and its the same problem when u using liveview to compose with DSLR,the handling suddenly become odd
and if i don't want to manual focus a big aperture non native lens ,then most of the native m4/3 lens is simply not enough, and i had observe some bokeh pic of the new olym 45mm f1.8 m4/3 from some web,the isolation capabilities still very much below my expectation
with nex i don't have to spend too much on fast lens to achieve enough bokeh, and still enjoy the convenient and precision of CDAF which imho one of the greatest unrealized advantage of mirrorless camera
and yeah,DR problem which you mentioned, although i care less of that
now i'm considering a system which i want to invest upon and i really need to weight everything really carefully, its not cheap to change system later on as like now i'm selling my brickstone DSLR,and i don't want to stuck with a disadvantage forever

Speaking of precision CDAF.

What do you shoot until the 7D's AF is not accurate enough for you? hmm.gif What's your lens hoard?

For me... if I want bokeh..

I'll just get an entry dslr + 50mm f1.8... 200grams heavier but cheaper and lots more bokeh than any of the choices here.

NEX have no fast lens... and good fast lens is heavy = unbalanced + I won't buy into a system without existing lens (track record not that good as well) and only potentially "magic" lens could be 24mm Zeiss.

As for m43.. just keep in mind that the bokeh-ness is ~ one stop less than APS-C so lets say a Oly 17mm f2.8's bokehness is around that of a "22mm f4" for Canon.

i'm feeling like i have to explain for every preference i elect to,but non the least
try google canon DSLR(or any specific model) af focus error,or focus offset problem,or use any key word regarding the problem, the issue is a plenty and widespread, and u can see ppl which complaint bout the issue mostly gotten bad reply as they are noob which doesn't know how to use a camera(like it was rocket science to operate a DSLR),there might be some noob user which dunno how to use the AF point correctly, but most user actually knows,i for once,i know
AF accuracy is important in portrait and macro photography, off by 1% the different is a clear eyes or flat eye,and different in sharpness level, especially with fast lens, yeah i'm pixel peeper but there's no excuse for manufacturer anyway
i used to have some very good sample between properly focused subject using liveview vs the one using the phase detection when i went to canon service center to show them, and they admit the problem but couldn't solve it completely even after numerous trip i went there,at last their answer to me is "device tolerance",as engineer i know what means by tolerance, but if i have a choice i doesn't necessary need to accept it,the olympus xz-1 for example, nails the focus every shot i take, yeah i know its different system, but we talking about focusing system anyway

NEX will introduce a 50mm F1.8 according to creditable rumors, the price of the lens will be around that of the upcoming olympus 45mm f1.8,that sounds good to me
yes i know the theoretical calculation for the DOF,i been there simulate the DOF many time b4 to convince myself into m4/3 being enough of the bokeh, but if there's even better solution why not,but olympus prowess in their optics design and excellent jpeg engine did still sway me a bit slightly

And also for the lack of other subjects to spam. tongue.gif

There's 2 more contenders... the rumored Fuji and Leica mirrorless thumbup.gif

Have you tried downloading sample RAW files to peep?

I've been spamming both the NEX and m43 threads for ages cos I sooooo wanna get one but haven't convinced myself to date.

Yalor before I learned that nex can accept so many legacy lenses, I also went bought m4/3 system. Now C3 may not have Zen but at this price range I consider it good enough to ride cow find horse.

Fuji interchangeable mirrorless....hmmm.,.may have zen and IQ but trust them to fark it up with some odd menu system or fiddlely controls

Leica mirrorless will have uber zen but need uber moolah as well. And will it fit M mount lenses? I think not. Then their M cameras makan telur? Cannot be right.

for your type of photography(i assuming street photography here),the olympus system is the obvious choice i think
but i can see DR being important to you and you just couldn't ignore the advantage afforded by larger sensor, just like i couldn't give up for the bokehness here
we are on the same boat then,if so lets pray the nex-7 to be a darn good one
Fuji will mostly join m4/3 so its same old moan by me as with other m4/3,and as with leica,no matter how much it cost and how hassle to use ppl like kai will still adore it

my dilemma now is i holding my 16mm pancake+1 extra battery.. and i already post for sales bt no need seen interested.. so what should i do now? rclxub.gif

for your type of photography(i assuming street photography here),the olympus system is the obvious choice i think
but i can see DR being important to you and you just couldn't ignore the advantage afforded by larger sensor, just like i couldn't give up for the bokehness here
we are on the same boat then,if so lets pray the nex-7 to be a darn good one
Fuji will mostly join m4/3 so its same old moan by me as with other m4/3,and as with leica,no matter how much it cost and how hassle to use ppl like kai will still adore it

I'm thinking of maybe the E-PM1

Lol, if lens cleaning also, sometimes they send to KL one. If got issues also, they might send 2 KL and if KL kenot resolve, they will send 2 SG one..

Problem is, once it left the country, the chance of your *Sony* item under warranty coming back on time, is a bit extended.

My pal still got few lens stuck at SG, few months liao.

It really boils down to what u use your camera for. Events, official work, high speed AF. You need a dslr.
Family outings, chill out with friends, blogging, street. Then Nex is the solution (along with many other m43 and PnS out there).
If you have a collection of lenses from any brand, u can easily get an adapter to fit them to the Nex.
At this point, nex3/5 is pretty affordable. The c3 is quite pricey IMHO. No harm waiting it out for the nex7 and see what it has to offer before dumping your cash in. But from what I can see, the 7 will be very very deep in A580/A55 territory.

This is a very good answer.

@sniper - Was not trying to be rude, the statement sounded wrong haha.
Also, if you travel often like me (Up and down KL), You won't not want to lug a DSLR with several lens and etc. More probably NEX is more convenient unless you are using for professional use.

Sometimes, I do feel like switching to a NEX for its portability but sadly, my line of usage requires me to keep my DSLR.

William kor, Nex3 not discontinued liao meh? C3 is the replacement model ma? Then Nex5n is replacement for Nex5 right?

Travelling every 2 months eh?

I travel weekly up and down from KL to my home. I carry a laptop and few other books and etc items for my studies and more.

Carrying a DSLR will kill my shoulder and backbone b4 I am 30 Lol.

Sadly, I require the use of one, so gotta live with the weight lol.

i wish to keep my fav nex3 if possible.. cry.gif
just money constraint cry.gif well c hope i strike number then i can buy both 1 dslr n buy 1 nex3 with 16mm(treat as "compact brows.gif )

ok the reason is
from nex3 to nex5h= initially i owe a nex3 twin lens... after few mths later i discover i need a better zoom lens that is sony alpha 55200sam lens with adapter. so i check wit my cousin who wrk for sony unfortunately no stock. so i try shop in lyn bt hardly get 1. i even call few shop mostly no stock. then while searchin i read comment from ppl said nex wit alpha sam lens the focus will be vry slow can even drink a cup of coffe while waiting it to be focus(guess that person is u tongue.gif ) laugh.gif ..

soon i change my mind(during this time i already post my camera for sale on lyn d), y don i jz get a 18200 nex lens. the price for this lens is ard 2.1-2.3k in kl market. by purchase a 18200zoom lens i rather sell my nex3+1855 lens and add another 1.2-1.5k i can get a sony nex5h(sony staff price at 2.7k) rather then spend 2.2k on 18200 lens. this calculation is done by applied relevant cost. again while waiting my cousin reply me on nex5h i received an offer on my sony nex3+1855 so i jz sell it off since i firm on my decision on purchase nex5h. but after sold my camera my cousin told me again no stock.. rclxub.gif

from nex3 to dslr ok back to tis 1 .... this is because if i stil stick wit sony nex5h i need to spend rm 3.1-3.2k in kl market price(lately i found 1 shop in pj 2.9k bt my decision already on dslr)... lot my fren ard me ask me y i willing to spend so much on this camera.. initially i debate with them because i love nex3(stylish+compact+portable+good quality) lot so i still firm on my decision.. while time pass i think n think over n over again izit really worth i really stick with nex5h with rm 3.1-3.2k(canon 600d kits+55250lens(3.3k)/nikond5100kits +55300len(3.2k)/a55kits+75300lens(3k sony staff price with stock on hand)/a33twinlens 2.4k only). and after encouragement and advice from my fren who using dslr so i turn my decision ard heading to dslr nod.gif

but to be honest my heart still with nex even i already go to dslr..i might encourage my gf buy 1 thumbup.gif

anyway hope u all understand my english slightly doh.gif hahaha

Thanks for the insights.

I guess NEX is currently more suited for people who don't buy lens or ppl that already have a lot of legacy lens.

this came in the mail from HK today. my 3rd Gen GGS glass screen protector. Its a clip-on type and is as clear as if there isnt anything on it
i wonder if dust will go in between later on?

anyway thanks to cjlai for pointing me the way to get them on ebay.

btw i didnt realize this before but the nex already have some kind of film on the LCD. Two days after bought the camera I noticed a tiny scratch and I was upset with myself for being so careless for scratching the LCD screen but its actually the film that is scratched. Im still leaving the film on. After googling I found that its some kind of glare protection film that scratches easily.

btw the remote you see here is a reflection and not coming from the display

Hi. I had just gotten the C3 with kit lens a day ago. Coming from a dSLR user for 7 years, it seems rather complicated to use the C3. I wish to ask a few questions. I did go through the manual though.

1. C3’s ISO is one stop (200, 400, 800 etc) but when I shoot in Av mode, the ISO sometimes is 500, 1000 etc. How can this be? And can I set it to 1/3 stop?
2. How can I set the ISO range in Auto ISO? Meaning that maybe I’d want the ISO to go up until 800.
3. Can I set the screen to display the ISO that it chose when shooting?
4. How can I disable autofocus when I am not pressing the half press button? The camera seems to focus on its own.

Thanks smile.gif

In AF mode, there is two option.

AF-S, AF-C

AS-S - Single focus
AS-C - Continuous Focus

Bro, I am already in AF-S...

Sorry if you misunderstood me. ANd I know what is AF-S and AF-C, having owned dSLRs for the past 7 years smile.gif Just that I don't really know how the Sony NEX c3 operates.

Any answer to my 2 other questions? Thanks.

I am about to get the RM30 GGS 2nd generation stick on type from one of the seller in LYN.
How is this compare to the GGS 2nd generation which is the Stick on type?
will the dust go in between the clip on type? But the stick on type seems will collect dust at the edge like the normal film type protector.

I think this is must for any of this 2 type. much better than the Sony one.

3. this is my biggest complain. it doesnt show what ISO the Auto ISO has chosen
4. goto Camera menu and select Autofocus Mode to Single Shot AF not Continuos AF
*
IS that a valid complaint? Basically Nex only decides the ISO at the moment it starts to capture the image, so logically it can't tell you exactly, until itself has decided what ISO value to use. maybe at that moment, if the subject is suddenly moves then probably it will instantly turn up the iso value.

QUOTE(firefly3x @ Aug 13 2011, 11:36 AM)
I am already in Single Shot AF, and yet the camera still AF by itself...why is that?
*
It's simple, if you don't want autofocus, then just select MF Manualfocus on the AF/MF Select option. I recommend turning on the peaking color as it helps me alot.

Of course once you select AF Autofocus the camera will always try to autofocus on the subjects. The difference on the Autofocus mode is this:
- With Single shot AF (AF-S), it will lock focus once you 1/2 press the shutter button. The focus will remain in that area as long as you keep your fingers still 1/2 pressing the shutter button; even if you move the object around.

- With Continuous AF (AF-C), it will assume you are trying to focus on a moving object. So With the 1/2 press of the shutter button, it will always try to keep the moving object in focus. Like if you try to wave a pencil infront of the camera, then you can see how NEX is able to move the focus to follow your pencil.

It would be more confusing if you select autofocus and it doesn't.. autofocus.

i believe when u half press the button the exposure is lock no matter the scene changes in brightness, thats why in DSLR we can assign a dedicated AEL button to lock the exposure setting, and DSLR typically does shows all the locked exposure setting parameters like ISO,aperture and shutter speed.i think its a valid complaint though,i wish my xz-1 shows the iso value it uses too during exposure lock

for the af setting i think idoblu confuse between single af and single continuous af though,i think he meant after the supposedly af lock the camera still hunt for focus indefinitely, maybe idoblu terswitch to continuous single spot af

should i voice first that i'm not a user of nex though, but a potential nex-7 user in the future

Thanks for the replies. I understand what a half press means, and the differences between AF-S and AF-C. As I said, I myself have been using dSLRs for the past 7 years.

My thing is, the AF still focus eventhough I didnt half press. Well, like Sniper said, its because of the Contrast Detection AutoFocus thingy in the NEX and PnS cameras. So I'll take it this way and I learnt something new this way too.

Btw how do you get the clip-on GGS to align with the light sensor hole? It seems the whole thing can slide left and right

Looks like you can't set ISO limit as well which is a shame. Even LX3 can set.

Yea.. i probably get what you mean, it's like noo... don't go autofocusing when i don't want it to, the extra movements may wear out the internal parts faster. Go autofocus only when i press the shutter. Some will be irked and others are indifferent depending on the individual expectations. Maybe Sony can put in a 2 more option in the next Firmware AF-M and an AF-A? haha .. start autofocus only when 1/2 press.

Once in a while this seems to be helpful because it cuts down the waiting time for the cam to focus. Perhaps by the time I lift up the cam and 1/2 press the shutter, something in the scene already changed and the shot was lost. Compared to let's say.. by the time i lift up the cam, it has already somewhat intelligently focused and I get the shot especially for some candid moment which i experienced before. As for the Battery, I usually carry a spare.

Surely more than the current Nex5 price, estimated around above 2.5k at least..

With Zeiss 24mm f1,7, it might be wayyyy more expensive anyways lol.

Just wait for the official pricing, which is coming soon, I guess.

Like it or not, even Kai speaks of Zen - excerpts taken from frame 7:00 onwards

"I love art. Oil on canvas. There's something therapeutic about controlling the brush strokes with your hand.
It's like the M9, you have all the manual controls at your fingertips and the viewfinder is not through the lens.
It's up to you and your imagination to contemplate what you want out of the shot."

I was also thinking about the same question. Especially when on Saturday I tested the Nikkor 50MM f1.8, thoroughly thinking if i wanted it or not. With the NEX-Nikon adapter +Nikkor 50mm (75mm equivalent), the length of that combination is if i remember correctly, was slightly longer than the kitlens.

Anyway, NEX 5 and A33 supposedly shares the same 14.2mpx sensor. But Flange on Wiki tells that e-mount flange distance is 18mm, a-mount is 44.50mm. I don't know how to do the optics calculations but I suspect that since they are using the same sized sensor, the optical distance to focus probably is the same? Which is why the lenses have to be longer to fill up/make up for the difference. Maybe someone here who knows Physics can draw some diagrams |X| to calculate??

Back to the Nikon adaptor, it's wishful thinking if it can be just 8mm thick, but then again i guess.... never.

Hi all, I'm going on a trip to India this November and I am really (really) thinking about buying the new C3.

1. Should I buy it now or wait later? The price might drop, oh, I don't know, maybe lah..
2. I saw in the Sony centre the price is RM2199, but in other shops, its cheaper by RM200++, how come hah?

bye and thanks

16mm --> Wide angle Lens
18-55 --> Daily use
75300 --> Ultra zoom

above 3 you can do most of what nex can do. And most of time you dont need carry all 3 around, just know what you going for the pick the one suit.

18-200 --> Travel lens..
Ease when you travel so one lens cover most of area. and if allow AF smile.gif

My advise is keep current what you had smile.gif

I dunno much about lens, but 75300 should be a long zoom lens. Normally used to shoot animal or sport, those thing that required you to zoom very far. Normal user seldom need to zoom that far to shoot an object, that's why you seldom use it. 1855 is normal zoom lens for everyday use, 16mm is for landscape shooting(normally). Hope this can clear your mind abit smile.gif

Depend what it offers. If got built in EVF+OVF , more control dials , better iso performance, solid built, and more.

if msrp going to be around tat of 3199,it should cost 3k or a bit less than that when it hit the shelve on our shore,if the reviews are all positive,i won't hesitate to get it for that price,it would be the ultimate mirrorless we have at the moment
