Dear w111w, you must not take to heart the less than enthusiastic reception you are getting from this thread. You need to know one thing, car buying to a guy, is almost like looking for a wife. To some, his car *is* his wife lol...
When you come in and start dissing the "wives" and "future wives" of the thread participants here, what other reception were you expecting? But I tend to agree with you, the K5 is not for everybody. I am still holding back because of the "adequate" engine. I am sorely disappointed that Naza isn't planning to bring in the GDI turbo. If it's always just me alone in the car, the 2.0 is ok lah, but try having a full load of ppl and luggage, and even the non-GDI 2.4 will also struggle a bit. The other day I had a friendly sprint with a Sonata 2.0 (I drive a 2.0 6-sp Forte) just to see how well that 165ps engine performed. The Sonata 2.0 is using the exact same engine as the K5, but the former is slightly lighter. Nonetheless, my Forte ate the Sonata for breakfast. He had no answer at all... For me, at most I will test drive three times and I will already know if the car is meant for me, because I know what to look out for during those test drives. So far I've done one round with the K5, two more to go lol... In terms of actual performance, I can tell you that on paper and in reality, the K5's 2-litre engine is slightly more zippy than the Camry and Accord 2-litre mills. I dare say that if you change the K5's wheels to 17s it will be even more responsive and zippy. |

QUOTE(w111w @ Apr 4 2012, 12:35 PM) OMG!!! Buying a car without test drive... Are u kidding? By just reading cooment by other ppl only and straigth bought k5! ... To me this is ridiculous and crazy act... Brother, i am one of those idiots who paid for the car without a test drive, 5 months in advance before the official launch. Why did I do so? Because I can. haha Not all ppl got the same preference in driving.....no matter how, the k5 driving feel really not up to my expectation... Although it got good looks...but tat is not impotant coz the design will outdate soon.... The thing tat will not outdate is the engine hp and torque.... After few years, when i feel the design is boring already, i will say WTF! ! wat car is this??. no power wan....no pick up wan...n blah blah You are right, the car has no pickup like a Audi A6. Even my perodua has more pickup at 0-20kmh range, WTF? Why? Because perodua is toyota's little cousin mah. haha, You happy now? You feeling superior now? I'm sure you do. K5 was launched in 2010, now 2012, 2 years already but many still love the design. Why? Because people has different taste and artistic values for cars. This may not have occurred to you before but you see, taste is a rather unique and subjective matter. Some people like Justin Bieber, some people like Adele, some people like Girls Generations, some people like JAV girls. If you like JAV girls doesn't mean Girls Generations chicks not chun mah. I like them both, but i like GG more because they cute mah. Hope you'll catch what i mean. |

Well, i have tested Mondeo, 508, camry2.0, accord2.0, Focus TDCI2.0, teana2.0, passat1.8, mazda6 and lastly k5.
I wouldn't say K5 is the best, but yet it is value for the $$ --> that's why i book one 2days back. U want torque, go for TDCI. U want comfort go for Camry/Teana. U want power, go for Passat1.8/508. U want stylish, then for now nothing beats K5. And these are of course my own humble opinion that would differs compared to others. Being Msian, our mentality are just too narrow at the Jap made due to the resell value. Look at the broader picture, i guess end of the day is what u really want. U need to carry whole family, maybe can go for MPV rather D-segment. All cars are made to be liability which depreciate unless u keep something really extraordinary. I'm also one of those conservative man once, and wish to move out from that circle. And by the way, i'm now 33 a family man and that doesn't stop me from being fancy with K5. My wife whom is 34 now drives a 523, love K5 at the first sight and wanna exchange the car when that K5 arrives! She even say the interior was so classy and premium. Well again, i guess it is really own perception and own liking about the car. Nobody is right or wrong about the design and the feel. |

QUOTE(w111w @ Apr 4 2012, 01:08 PM) I tested passat 1.8 n teana 2.0. Those cars oso can give me good driving feel in the first test drive.... Pickup is there and smooth acceleration.....but k5 cant give me that kind of feel.... Only a stupid person like you will come here and say Passat 1.8 gives good driving feel like you made some big discovery. We all know that u dumb fool. VW has got among the best engines and gearboxes around and WE ALL KNOW THAT! Passat 1.8TSI has 250Nm torque which makes it more powerful than Optima for sure. Plus it comes with a world renowed 7 speed DSG gearbox while the Optima only has a 6 speed auto. WE ALL KNOW THAT! Passat surely has better driving dynamics because its VW and WE ALL KNOW THAT! But then Passat 1.8TSI (CKD) also costs RM27,000 more and has got less specs than the Optima. Plus it looks really dull and boring and its seat comfort is no where close to Optima's standard. WE ALL KNOW THAT! The Teana comes with a XCVT transmission and it delivers more low range power than the Optima. The acceleration is also smoother. WE ALL KNOW THAT! But sorry, i dont wish to drive around in an uncle's car with half the specs available compared to the Optima. Only a fool like you will evaluate cars based on 1 or 2 factors. I suppose it didnt strike you that there is no such thing as a PERFECT car. The owners here chose the Optima not because it is perfect but because it was GENERALLY the best and it gave them the most value for money for the RM143K that they are spending. So now tell me something we DONT know. And while ure at it do tell us what's your CURRENT car. |

Telling us birds can fly as if he made the discovery himself. He just try to be smarter than us and tell us OPTIMA is UNDER POWER, why choose OPTIMA??! hahahaha... I myself said many times that the Optima is underpowered during low range acceleration while the power kicks in only at mid range. Hence, why in normal town driving ull feel the weight of the car and your FC wont be that good. We all know that right! I tested the Optima 8 times under various driving conditions both as driver and as a passenger. This is probably the highest number of test drives anybody has ever had as far as i know. Beats my previous record of 7 test drives in 4 states in 2003 for my Toyota Vios. And yet i get a fool like him coming here and talking as if he made some super discovery which i failed to see during my 8 test drives. |

Btw, seems that the new Toyota Camry is getting thrashed on Paultan. Current stats are 542 negative ratings and only 79 positive. Hope that translates into poor sales for the Camry. That would send the message across loud and clear.
