the reason i asked those questions is to understand what u r used to, what u r looking for and whether the box will suit u.

yr broadband is fine, good enough for most purposes.

u do not use home theater, so u will not use the hd audio features - dtshdma, dd atmos, dts:x.

if u are familiar with uhd/4k content for yr uhd tv, then u may be able to use the 4k feature of the box.

the q10 pro comes with many new and advanced features - 10 bit color, 23.99fps, 4k 60fps, dts:x, etc. if u cannot use them , then it will be underutilized, might be better to buy a lower end model.

also, the box is not like an astro decoder or dvd player where u power it up, push buttons only. it is basically a box with nothing in it until u find, install the apps, maintain them, take time to update to keep going. and not all apps work well, many apps do not give HD.

android box general discussion:
https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/3126605/+1640

KODI, mother of all apps:
https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/3139601/+4000

... yr UHD TV, is it a smart one, ever played with the smart/android features? if u hv, the knowledge will be useful for an android box.

... himedia is a good brand, i have a couple. but good or bad brand, u still need help in the end to get firmware updates, new apps, troubleshooting methods, etc. so, u need to know where to get such help - the seller, the manufacturer or public forums.

... go back a few pages, there was already some discussion on q10 pro, the specs, the features, etc.

Summary: To help the adoption of the UHD standard, REC.2020/BT.2020 was developed and it has the capacity to display more colors than the HDTV standard Rec. 709, which was developed in the 1900s. Equals deeper color reproduction. IMO, not a criteria for an android box today.. While most are still struggling with "regular" 4K/HD audio.

I'm using Q10Pro and having this issue when watching some online shows.
It kept showing "Unfortunately, System UI has stopped" whereas the background music of the show still running. Any ideas how to solve this? thanks

this kind of thing is due to either a bug in the firmware or some other app running in conflict with the ui.

if it came only after u installed some other app(s), on your own, that could be it.

if so, either identify the culprit app, remove or report to your seller/himedia - will normally be resolved with next firmware.

above is based my experience with previous himedia models, not q10pro as i don't hv one.

thanks a lot for the advice bro.
as all the apps was installed by the seller to me when I purchased the player at that time and he did tested it out for me during that time and it was alright.
Seems like rebooting the player is the only solution for now but it will re-appear again once again after some time.
A bit random. I heard from other forums that next firmware might solve this as what you said.

Hi guys, I'm looking to replace my ageing WDTV Live and I'm considering HiMedia(probably Q3).

Just wanted to ask you HiMedia owners, do you keep your players on 24/7? If yes, any problems with it hanging, overheating, etc?

If not left on 24/7, how fast is the boot up time?

Thanks.

q3... if not mistaken, it is a bit old... kitkat 4.4, small memory 1/8gb - entry level.

r u sure it is what u need? just for playback?

if looking for onlinestreaming, better go for a higher level one - h8 or q10pro with 2/16gb, lollipop 5.1.

price a bit higher, of course.

no, i never on 24/7. it does get hot, more so in an enclosed space.

anyway, why pay more to tnb? tongue.gif

boot up is fast enough for newer models. old ones are slow.

I only need playback from my NAS. Although once I have it I'll probably start exploring Kodi and whatever else it's capable of.

How fast is fast? My WDTV takes around 3 minutes to boot up, get an IP, and access my NAS. I consider that painfully slow. Which is why I never turn it off.

if u hv good broadband speed 30mbps or higher, u should explore kodi and a couple other apps.

saves u the time, tnb bill, wear and tear on yr hdds. just stream, watch and forget 80%, 20% best of the best, u keep and NAS it anytime u want.

3 minutes is ancient. no more than 45 secs today.

but i understand u, coming from wdlive.

i came from ac ryan.

but that was 3 years ago. biggrin.gif

if network is hardwired, there should be no problem for most players for local playback.

i was referring to online streaming via wifi.
