i doubt this is a priority for any box or branded BD player maker - too expensive, too few people will buy it.

old receivers can be hdmi but non 4k or no hdmi but using toslink or coaxial.

No DTS Master HD/Dolby True HD/Atmos/DTS-X

all that can be handled by existing hdmi or toslink n coaxial output from the box.

if the avr is non 4k and/or non hd audio, the box player will just downgrade the video to 1080p and/or dd/dts or whatever the avr can handle, u still get the best possible video on yr tv and the best possible audio from yr avr.

Need to play 4K HDR while maintaining compatibility with HDMI 1.4 AV receiver for sounds

ok, i am refering to himedia native player, no idea about other box players.

Dual HDMI output is an important feature for high end ULTRA HD bluray player, oppo 203, Samsung K8500, Panasonic UB900/700 all have dual HDMI output.

likely scenario: he has an old receiver, hdmi, but can't pass thru HD audio.

but has new 4kHDR tv.

so, need player HDMI1 to TV, HDMI2 for just digital dts/dd audio.

but, really, since AVR can't do HD audio, waste of time with hdmi, just connect via coxial/toslink, same digital audio.

player single hdmi to TV.

problem solved, no? biggrin.gif
why mess with rm2-3k player just for that?!!

My amp can do HD audio, but if I connect the HDMI 2.0 4K signal to my HDMI 1.4 1080p AMP, no sound at all. I need to lower the display resolution to 1080p to get audio out

If I use toslink/Coaxial digital output, I don't get HD audio because toslink/coaxial digital output has limited bandwidth

how much do these players cost, each?

well, u said:

No DTS Master HD/Dolby True HD/Atmos/DTS-X

dtshdma/ddtruehd is hd audio.

dts/dd is digital audio.
before i go any further, u should explain what box, what player (app) u r using now, what files u r playing.

also, what tv u hv?
*
If you use Toslink/Coaxial digital output, you don't get dtshdma/ddtruehd or no HD audio, it is pretty clear, right?

I have Himedia Q5 4K30, it can play up to 4K 30fps, himedia connects to Anthem MRX 300 amp which is HDMI 1.4 but it doesn't work well with 4K resolutions, I have JVC X5000 4K HDR projector.

When I set player output to 4K 30fps, I only get 4K picture output on my screen (FYI I set HDMI pass through at my Anthem amp), but no sound output regardless of what file I play, this is pretty common issue when playing 4K movies with old AMP, few ways to get around it without upgrading AMP to HDMI 2.0

1. Player has dual HDMI output - one HDMI 2.0a for 4K HDR video, another one HDMI 1.4 for audio output
2. Get device like HDfury Integral (splitter) and HDfury link (scalar) to split the HDMI from player to two output , and connect one of the output to scaler to downscale it to 1080p HDMI 1.4, then the scaler connect to the old AMP.

AVFAN... obviously the dual HDMI box is the cheaper option biggrin.gif

Kiding... nice amp/beamer you have there...got any player with hdmi in and dual out?
*
Oppo UDP-203, 1 x HDMI in, 2 x HDMI out, best picture and audio, high end media player. just the price is not friendly cry.gif

AVFAN I won't get new amp, because get a new amp to surpass my current amp audio capability, it will be too costly, and I love my current Anthem amp. laugh.gif

I tot you might have an oppo...

Can try Q5 to oppo hdmi in? Your Oppo hdmi1 to JVC, hdmi2 to amp?

Should be able to do that, but I don't want to manage two players, too messy ...
