on my pc, usually 3-5secs but if just finish fresh installation, need longer time, around 3mins for sorting up the settings and drivers.
if u didn't formatted the drive used for XP, vista automatically recognized it as dual boot system.

@kingvui78
try vista manager for tweaking. for maintainence, havent try tuneup07 on it though. forgot to try it tongue.gif

for graphic overclocking, forget bout it. new working method of driver prevent it. atitool, rivatuner, etc all doesn't work.

I ve waited for 10 mins during the transition from the loading screen to the colorful screen, but the pc's status remain mystery as whether it is working or not after I seen the colorful screen.. no HDD LED, only the DVD LED lit on once in 1-2 minutes...

btw, I havent format the C: WinXP drive yet, can it be formatted in vista setup ?

does it take so long to install?

usually first time is longer, or after you've installed new hardware and drivers.

Mine took about 3 to 5 seconds for that.

Clean installation = 15 minutes or less
Upgrade = Didn't try it, but a fren did and it's slower.

For a fast installation, you need a fast HDD, and also make sure the DVD drive ur using has a clean head.

last nite i completely replaced my XP installation with Vista. I don't regret it. I made sure all my files were backuped first. I reformated the XP drive and Vista installed in less than 30 minutes, actually shorter time I think. I tried upgrade before and it took a couple hours!! I'm still using the evaluation RC2 i got and activated it already, so the time limit (30 days) is gone. I think I will use this until SP1 comes out then I'll go get an RTM version like Home Premium. As far as I can tell, RC2 works really well and the only thing is WMP doesn't play DVDs as it has a timebomb that disables its dvd abilities after a while. Anyone wanting to test drive Vista should download the evaluation copy and get your activation keys with your windows hotmail usernames. But donno if the evaluation copy still available for download, i got mine a long while ago. That way can see for yourself if it's what you really want.

FIrst time loading vista from blackscren with greenbar to colorfulscreen takes 15mins maybe 20 even.. usually around 15 i think. I think it's doing system compatibility check then.

after that, unless upgraing major patch, it's usuallysuper fast.. fast tehn xp.

I've been using Vista for almost a month now, so far so good. abit lousy video drivers.. crashes here and there but you get use to it. Most annoying thing is rundll crash. but the resource monitor is good.

Unfortunately most vista ultimate goodies are not out yet.. so no use also now.

i doubt that. usually localized version sold much cheaper.

can try though. try go to control panel and change the language preference, just like in XP. restart after changing the setting, if available.
