...you are going to think of a long list of intelligent, defensible reasons why each of these options is absolutely, positively essential. Don't bother. I know. Each additional choice makes complete sense until you find yourself explaining to your uncle that he has to choose between 15 different ways to turn off a laptop....

personally, I think that Switch User and Lock is overlapping each other, and they can be combined become one, which is the current Switch User...it sure will confusing newbies of windows.
And between Sleep and hibernate, most people would be easily confused too...why they renamed from standby to sleep? Suspense could be better word.
and that menu make the power-off button and log-off button besides utterly useless doh.gif M$ just put them as garnishment ?

Actually, instead of shutting down, Vista will now hibernate so that you can get faster boot time when restarting the PC. I myself feels that it's a good thing as the PC is not using that much power during that time. Also, if I want to shut down, I just use the power switch on the PC itself
*
XP also can hibernate, but its not recommended to always use the hibernation, the system will become more laggy as times goes by, this happen in XP though

is that All version of Vista support 64 bit computing? I dont understand that how do we switch between 32 bit and 64 bit.. do we have to select it during the installation? and the setting cannot be changed after that?

and whats you guys recommendation? stay at 32 bit or leap towards 64 bit? AFAIK, 64 bit windows has to use 64bit driver files, which is harder to get, and almost impossible for older hardware

about the directX thingy, when we run DX9 games in Vista, would it run under the directX 9 EX, which come along with DX10..

does default installation includes the DX9 EX?

DX9 EX serve as the platform for non-DX10 games to run under win vista..

what are the outcomes that Vista doesnt support openGL and directsound... does that mean the older games will have degraded performance on vista?

Hey guys i only have 1Gb RAM for now. Izzit sufficient to run Vista??
Anyone running Vista with 1GB RAM here?? Can share exp. ? Thanks.

1gb ram is barely reach the requirement, programs load time should be slower than xp with 1gb of ram, as the review said, you give vista more ram, vista will give back more performance to you

Just be careful. The current batch of flashdrive is pretty slow. Read reviews that 2 of the fastest thumbdrive for VISTA is ADATA PD7(not found here, I think, never seen it in LYP pricelist) and a new Kingston thumbdrive which is especially enhanced for VISTA.

Don't just buy any thumbdrive or you'll be dissapointed. maybe wait a little while and get one that is fast enuff for VISTA.

(1) I think you must understand how VISTA works. VISTA works very differently from XP. It'll try to grab everything for the O/S and then allocate accordingly. But i don't see any difference when i run BFME2, almost same amount used about 600+MB or so in VISTA and XP.

There's a parameter showing free blocks or memory, something like that in the Vista Task Manager and it always show very low free blocks. This doesn't mean ur PC is out of memory, VISTA is simply doing it's job and make sure your memory get used, not sitting there being "free" and goyang kaki. smile.gif

(2) So far run only 3 games...so can't really comment got bug or not, but so far so good.

how many RAM u have? Is the gaming experience better or worse than XP ?

and can we still use directsound/EAX thingy (run under legacy DX9 EX driver in vista) in games?

I always feel that superfetch has almost crammed all of available physical memory just to fit in those frequent programs, but consider games size is huge compare to user apps, i wonder how superfetch will deal with games

if wanna ply dx10 games muz install vista then???
no hope to ply crysis then zzzz

I dont think the developers would so gross to come out DX10 only game right? I expect that in the near future, while attempting the glamorous of DX10, they would include a legacy rendering using DX9, Vista still has DX9 files hidden, just for DX9 games compatibility.. Except that M$ Halo 2, no other games would be Vista exclusive, no one developer other than M$ would ever dare to do that laugh.gif

I ve waited for 10 mins during the transition from the loading screen to the colorful screen, but the pc's status remain mystery as whether it is working or not after I seen the colorful screen.. no HDD LED, only the DVD LED lit on once in 1-2 minutes...

btw, I havent format the C: WinXP drive yet, can it be formatted in vista setup ?

does it take so long to install?
