Hi there, I have been using cheapo Gillette vector and now looking for cleaner shave.
After seeing your post I thought of getting this Ming Shi as well.

Just want to know, where do you get the brush and what kind of shaving foam you use? I plan to buy from taobao or aliexpress for the mingshi, just wondering is the brush and special foam necessary (I am using those standard gillette foam now).

And usually how many weeks/months does one blade last? Does the replaceable blade's brand matter?
Pardon for many questions smile.gif

if you are getting the bundle from the same seller for ming shi ... u can get their stand and also their blades.
i have their blades but i am still using my old persona blades.
Dont bother to get their cheapo foam and try getting better soap to lather

I found the bundle, most likely will get it... any recommended place/website to buy better soap/foam?
As for the brush.. I only found synthetic brush but not badger hair brushes (mostly costs a lot and overseas only). Will it be fine?

I don't use a brush or foam. I use oil:

Bro

Just a quick experiment before you buy. Try using oil. Just dip 3 fingertips in it and massage it into your face before shaving. Best is argan, grapeseed or virgin coconut oil, but you can try with normal cooking oil if you don't have any of those.

I tried it and never looked back. Currently using a blend of grapeseed oil and virgin coconut oil, mixed with some cedarwood and lemongrass essential oil. Use it to take care of my goatee and my shaving.

Blades are a very subjective. Most people look at mostly how well it shaves, but how long it lasts was also a factor for me when I was choosing what to use. I bought a sample pack from Connaught Shaving:
http://www.connaughtshaving.com/popular.html

I ended up choosing Gillette Silver Blue. To me, it offered a smooth consistent shave even after a few days use, and each blade lasts me a month if I want to. But blades are so cheap I usually change sooner than that. Bought 20 boxes from Connaught Shaving after I made my decision. Don't think I need to buy any blades for the next 10 years at least. thumbsup.gif

Oh and for those who think my maths is a bit off, I primarily use a shavette, which uses half a blade tongue.gif

As for oil I am not sure if I'd like it, no harm giving it a try then!

Thanks, found a few on there. Any seller in particular or are they all about the same?

It's about RM 60-65 for 50 blades.

Was using Mach3 for years, knew about DE razor but never look into it. Recently, my Mach3 is at its last cartridge, was thinking, ughhhhh not again, another RM40 for four or RM80 for eight cartridges. That was when I made up my mind. Found this forum, crawled around the internet for a few days. Then, finally pulled the trigger, bought myself an Edwin Jagger DE89 (came with 5 feathers blade), and another 100 Astra Blade from connaughtshaving.com

Was really excited, it came! Locked and loaded Feather blade and started to shave. First two shave with feather, holy, my face is literally red, bloody hell lol. The overall experience was actually better than freaking Mach3 cartridge, even though yes, it's blood everywhere on my face. So I switched the blade from feather to Astra, and from there, everything went uphill, a few nicks here and there, but the shave experience, waaaaaaaaaaaay better. Tbh, I am not sure if I got better from it or the Feather blade is just not meant for me. Anyway, last night was my 5th shave with DE razor, love it, actually I enjoyed it.

Now I want to upgrade my shave quality to another level, looking to change my Schick canned foam to Arko shaving stick. I wan to buy it in bulk, it will come with 12 Arko sticks. The price is around RM90-95 for 12 sticks, looking to spare half, so 6 of them. If any of you interested, please do let me know.

Congrats on your new gear. You're not alone, I suffered major razor burn and nicks too when I first switched to DE razors.
It will get better as your technique improves...

Any recommendations for a shaving cream for sensitive skin? I've been using TOBS avocado for near a year and it's finishing, thinking of trying something else. Can be another brand. Otherwise I may get TOBS Jermyn Street or Aloe.
