was watching Mary & Max the other day...

How this did not get nominated for an oscar baffles me...
absolutely brilliant animated movie that makes "Up" seem like a happy episode of the teletubbies...

The PQ of the bluray is reference also... brilliant definition

The Thin Red Line is the holy grail of reference blurays to demo my home setup....

Brilliant (& long)movie with the highest rated PQ of "real movie"(not CGI or animated) and a whop-ass soundtrack also...
Also has tonnes of special features, interviews and extra footage if you into that sort of thing

Testament to the superior PQ can be found here at the "PQ Tier Thread for Bluray":

i can't agree more. by the way, AMZ UK is going to release CROSS OF IRON, a very brutal war movie made in 1970s. 1 of the best war movie ever made by Sam Peckinpah (the Wild Bunch)

No entirely true.  Yes, usually their do that but on some occasions, their will ship separately.

I just tried to made an order with 3 pre-order-Apocalypse Now, Don't look now & Cross of Iron & 6 available titles. But AMZ UK would only ship all the discs to me together in Jun when all titles available.

I don't think i can wait for 3 months, so i cancel the order. mad.gif

I just checked my records, since 2009, I made 23 orders (contain different quantities of BDs in each order) in Amazon UK and out of total 23 orders, 6 orders had been split into 2 separate shipments.

good deal, i have pre-order INCREDIBLES, too bad already got CAR.

by the way, really appreciate your comments on B&N. thank u.

I'm more than happy to buy from them if the price is right and use the coupons provided for members.

To add something, B&N CS is not anything like Amazon CS.

I've received stuff late, but they cancel stuff as they wish so the shipping charges can change from what they quote at the beginning.

Bro anfieldude,

You are absolutely right. I had the similar fashion of behavior from them last year during Black Friday. The Criterion Collection was on offer at 50% off from retail price. I have placed order like 43-45 copies of various Criterion titles and guess what, 12-13 copies was rejected due to out of stock. And FFS, the stock for those items were sold off within hours. Could recall few title , if im all right, its The Wages Of Fear , Wings Of Desire, M , For All Man Kind , Chungking Express, In The Realm Of The Senses.

Luckily i have managed to grab some like 29 - 31 copies of various titles from Criterion but all arrived within 18-20 days after Black Friday and one was missing for sometime and they have sent a wrong format. Antichrist DVD instead of Antichrist Blu-ray. I was really furious after waiting a month or so, sent me a wrong format of item. Well, after 15 - 20 emails , i managed to get refund for their customer services stupidity and irresponsible manner of handling customer needs. I've got my refund and got a complimentary copy of Antichrist Blu-ray at no charges. That was the 1st time. (Nazmanson might have some comments on this blush.gif)

And the 2nd incident was during Black Friday too. I ordered 5 copies of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle 25th Anniversary Boxset, it was like 12.99 or 13.99 , if i'm not mistaken. They rejected automatically 3 copies and i got 2 out of 5.
I guess they are prioritizing for ****** Americans and not to other Regions. I wouldn't say there are many bad incidents occurred when buying from B&N but i would say its like one off. I have been buying from them since Feb 2010 and all parcels arrives in nice box. Sometime they write a different amount on the box and god knows why!

what an experience, those who like scifi films can consider this series.

Iron Man 2 Blu-ray Review

Starting off with Iron Man 2's packaging as it comes with an awesome 2 50GB discs (movie & special features). Next up, the Video..What could i say more than WOW ! Its absolutely stunning , incredible video presentation. The stunning video represented by vibrant colors and the details which are so elegant and strong. I liked the video moments when the girls danced before the Stark Expo kicked off; outstanding!. Its in overall gorgeous looking video and the transfer is excellent. I'm not sure how many would agree with the above , but i definitely couldn't agree if the above wasn't relatively describing the Video elements. Hats off to Paramount!

Some reviews claims that there isn't a single "speck of grain and the transfer has wonderfully lush , film-like appreance" , I Do Not Agree. If you watch closely, the scene where Tony visits Ivan in prision, the entire couple of mins or so scene has light grains although they turn out to be healthy ones. The scene was little dusty , probably cause the way prisons are meant to be under the dim light? Or somethin' else?..not good at describing the elements of the scene further..

The scene at Monaco was one of my favorite, with visual effects and rich colors. Also the CG of the suit in briefcase had stunned me watching! That must have taken them ages to come up with the sort of ideas in film making!. That fight scene never looked cg-like scene. Look more life-like. The CG in the basement has improved compared to Iron Man with more precisely advanced voice recognition effects.

Ok, i would definitely fail at describing Audio part cos with 2.1 setup i would not be able to pen more on the largely stunning audio but im more than satisfied with ...the blasts , occasionally vibrating Sub. Explosions , the CG sound effects are absolutely breathtaking. The climax had its best moments presenting superb sound demo. I loved completely the dialogues in the film, spontanious and made me laugh at some of Robert Downey Jr's jokes (not excessive jokes though). Never had listened much from Scarlett, except final few mins. Not an expert to talk about LFE etc but overall the sound from the sub was and my speakers were amazing. Was making coffee during the climax moments of the film while wanted to make myself freshened up for Liverpool's game tonight , i felt the vibration from my sub on the climax fights ! Damn ..that was wicked cool!

Had no-time chance to watch the Extras but from the look of the back cover, it has some interesting extra's to explore. Will revisit the disc sometime later during my off days. sweat.gif , I've never written such a long review on any movies (perhaps Bollywood ones wasn't this long i suppose). Overall, Iron Man 2 definitely goes into Reference Quality category without a second thought.

Very Highly Recommended.

Its perfectly normal with B&N if you are not a regular with their shipping procedure. Once you've submitted your order , there will be an automated confirmation email of your orders. You will then provided with a scheduled date to ship. Once the item sent out for shipment, there will be another automated email saying your item has been shipped. The estimated time scheduled by B&N for Standard shipping is 7 - 21 Business days. There's nothing to shout about on the shipment schedules & services but certainly it arrives safer than expected (based on my personal experience). To answer your question whether they will reship item if you have not received within the due date , yes..they will @ no additional charges and if your parcel arrives by any chance, you get to keep it as complimentary (i just had one entire order refunded for a mishap by them)

On less than many occasions , my packages has arrived late or even after delivery due date. All i need to do was an email to be sent and item will be shipped at no cost (immediately usually!). It's almost identical with the rest of the online retailers with the way of handling customers needs.

What was the problem you faced with B&N shipment?
*
Thank you so much for providing such in-depth explanation.

At this point in time, I must say that I have yet to have any problem with their shipment except the fact that it has yet to arrive since the BDs were shipped on 25th Feb. Perhaps I have been "pampered" by AMZ all these while which deliver within 9 working days at the latest. This is my first time purchase through B&N and probably be my last given such a lengthy delivery process - I don't mind paying extra USD2 for a quicker delivery by AMZ.

Thanks again for the help.

when brilliant, no doubt that iron man 2 can be considered reference material... however there are too many scenes that the picture becomes soft in comparison to the rest of the film that juuust shys off perfection. grain also becomes apparent in a few scenes with less brightness...but IM2 style of imaging is very close to that of a cinematic experience in the sense that it never feels overly "digitised"(is that even a real word?) that sKyWiR3pT3lTd also pointed out in his review... guess what i'm just saying that it is inconsistent in some areas... but then again, may just be me being picky smile.gif

no such quibbles with the sound tho. a brilliant mix throughout and not over the top (ala transformers 2)

Some scenes may have appeared soft but its a one off, you wouldn't particularly notice them. Grains? Any particular scenes you noticed? I'm still impressed with the authoring. Its "Digitized".
Never felt it was overly digitized. For such CG movies it may fit into. I was wondering if anyone had the disc lagging during some climax scenes. During the RDJr's birthday party scene? While he visits GP with strawberry?

Could possibly be the disc. Anyway thanks for the supporting comments yonggoh..

hi ,

my WALKING DEAD SEASON 1 arrived, yes! icon_rolleyes.gif

with slipcover, tested the picture, very good, the picture grain is natural & intact with good green color. with Dolby True HD 5.1.

update on 198-Mar-2011
just finished the series 1 of WALKING DEAD, good TV series, worth watching with a acceptable season ending. The best season 1 ending I felt is SPARCATUS BLOOD & SANDS S1. good TV series should at least gave us a ending. I love LOST very much, but every season ending is shit, especially the last season.
