Hi, you could also check out the Stanley Kubrick movie Collection, will be available in May, 10 movies all, included Warner bros-(2001, Shinning, Full metal jacket, Clock work orange,Eyes wide shut/Universal-Sparcatus/Colombia-Dr. Strangelove) with a very cool booklet.

The Last Emperor under criterion is not in the original 2.35 aspect ratio, it is at 2.22:1 but still offer better picture quality than the UK Optimum Zone B release.

Baraka means blessing in a multitude of languages. This is a 1992 non-narrative film directed by Ron Fricke and was the first in over twenty years to be photographed in the 70mm Todd-AO format.

Baraka is also the only film that re-scanned at 8k resolution with special dedicated equipment did at FotoKern Laboratories. This automated 8k film scanner has operated continuously more than 3 weeks for finishing the scan with more than 150,000 frames, producing over 30TB of image data in total. It has been spend a total of 16-months for digital intermediate process re-mastered before releasing it as blu-ray.

Baraka was filmed at 152 locations in 24 countries. It is one astonishing work ever did.

Baraka proof viewing pleasure means thousand word. See it to believe how brilliant spectacular it being film and produce.

Baraka give you the most beauty of earth where you never feel and seen before & some meaningful element, your life is something missing without watching it.

Picture Quality
Unbelievable how stunning the picture quality is where you hardly believe it was shooting on year 1992. It is by far the only beyond top notch quality you ever seen in any recent film transfer. The beauty and clarity deserved it 8k transfer.

The output is like you seen in real life where it surpass for the most aclaim outstanding movie - Avatar which basically mostly did in CGI, Baraka is not CGI, Baraka is real!

They is no single issue of DNR, EE or whatever technology apply, no sign of edge issue, judder, color banding, over sharpen or whatever you name it, it is not there. The only there is pure perfection transfer ever did.

Audio Quality
Even though this film without any narration, the perfect music score by Michael Stearns and featuring music by Dead Can Dance, L. Subramaniam, Ciro Hurtado, Inkuyo, Brother and David Hykes is outstanding than whatever you believe! Without them, this film is nothing.

Conclusion
The only film that beyond the edge. Top notch transfer in both PQ & AQ.

A must own for any blu-ray lover and a must seen film in your entire life at least once!

5 star for everything Baraka deserved! 10 out of 10 without any doubt! Brilliantly bravo!

Can't wait for it sequal "Samsara" which schedule to be release in unknown time on this year 2011.

USD170 might cause custom hold & charge 30% duties, but this is really a very attractive packaging. too bad i already own Season 1 to 5 in standard packing. alos got at very cheap discont from amazon, i think around u$100 only for 5 season. Amazon might even discount more - sometimes up to 70% if they really want to clear stock.

Beside DIGIBOOK - offer - Shawshank Redemption (C$15) & Exorcist (C$19), i think $ is very reasonale. postage is only C$3.50 each if u buy 6 discs together.

AMZ UK is offering Three King & Inglorious BAsterd at 5 pound only.

Fair comparison la bro for my case,
From what Thyper wrote, he bought from AMZ US also, 10 days the parcel arrived via standard shipping (28th Feb - 9th Mar).

Nope, my purchase less than RM500, USD 131

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
International Parcel sucks, i got a package been overdue for more than 60 days. AMZ US is sending me a replacement. Standrad International shipping is better, always got the package less than 30 days, small item sometimes arrived in 1-2 weeks.

Hi Pok Leh,

Some sharing on Amazon Canada-
Zone A, higher $ than U$ but lower freight cost, so about the same, my last purchase arrived within 4 days. Lots of Steelbook packing, use HSBC CC can get Ex-rate very close to USD.
Some title not available in US & UK are available there under ALLIANCE , eg. FROM DUSK TILL DAWN, MIMIC, THE CELL, THE OTHER, LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL, CHOCALATE. no subtitle & no extra, around C$10

go to wwww.blu-ray.com/movies/ click on AMZ canada side, currently some sales available there.

You might wanna share with us once you received, the quality of Alliance release.
I heard they are bad, (according to Blu-ray.com)
*
I already got 6 titles, I tried my luck because all not yet available eleswhere, around RM48/disc included freight,
MIMIC - directed by GUILLERMO DEL TORO, good scifi horror, released by NEW LINE same year with DARK CITY, both suffer in box office, PIC is B-, no remastered & very dark movie, SOUND is better in DTS-HD 5.1
FROM DUSK TILL DAWN - directed by Robert Rodriguez, with George Clooney & Q. Tarantino - the pic is very good quality, A-, sound very good too, US Vivendi might release this title soon, so hold your horses
LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL - u can find the review in Blu-ray.com, very good quality both in pic & sound, & very good italy movie
CHOCALATE - 1080I, but very good PIC quality
CONSTANT GARDENER - Pic B+, however no subtitle, very dificult to watch as it is heavy dialoge driven movie
THE CELL - I read from the forum u all love "THE FALL", i think u guys should already knew THE CELL, both directed by TARSEM SINGH. a very beautiful psycho thriller with J.Lo, again u can find the review at Blu-ray.com, pic & sound both B/B+, again no subtitle & zero extra feature.

I watch the above BD with my Optoma HD86 projector, so the effect is dif watching at HD LCD/LED/Plasma.

Just made another order for 6 more titles, all in STEELBOOK & DIGIBOOK packing, will comment when arrive.

Dear Andrew

After reading your post, I can't help it but to say "I AM NOT ALONE"!!!

Similar to you, I have already got 40 titles with 2 more coming (from B&N) and a few more pre-order that will be released sometime this year. And all were purchased after Christmas. I think I am addicted and looking for a cure soon!!

Now, I am actively looking for a nice cabinet to store these Blu-rays..any suggestion?
*
Hi Brothers,
same go here, i got over 60 titles from Christmas to New Year till now. Have not seen half of it. I think we can change our forum to bluray crazy. haha.

hi,

anybody have purchased this?

Pirates of the Caribbean Trilogy Blu-ray
Curse of the Black Pearl / Dead Man's Chest / At World's End | 7 disc set
Amazon: $49.99 (Save 32%)
need some review and comment please... notworthy.gif
*
Hi,
I got the older packing, also in box set, the PIC & Audio quality is very good, with cool menu

I think if u are not desperate, please wait as Pirate 4 is coming to theater soon, Disney will have to clear all trilogy box set & there will be more discount. eg. X-Men trilogy box set (9 disc) used to sell at U$50, now U$30, other example like Rambo Trilogy etc.

U$50 is reasonable but not cheap, U$30 is a must.

Hey..

I hv Constant Gardener n Chocolate[I tink its Le Chocolat.. in reality.. o ya, u are talkin abt d Johnny Depp/Juliette Binoche flick, rite?] both frm Canada too.. all thru royal canadian post.. I tried orderin Life is Beautiful but it was held back n I eventually nvr received it..

Both CG n Chocolat is brilliant.. thou' it might not be every ones cup of tea..

N might I be so bold to recommend this too :

ENGLISH PATIENT

Also a Ralph Fiennes/ Juliette Binoche flick - its 1080i too but brilliant vdo.. luvly story too..

hi dirtrun,
ya, is Le Chocolat.
I would like to order English Patient, but i think no subtitle, right?

Just order CRITERION COLLECTION - CHE - 2 disc pack.

Some sharing on IPARCEL & Standard International Shipping:

the lowest cost is Standard international shipping, with no tracking, & it is by post Malaysia to our house. It has improved a lot during last few year, usually arrived in 4 weeks for 10 disc pack & 10 days for single disc, & i never encounter lost in mail

IPARCEL - suppose better than normal post but IPARCEL screw up recently. My first few order via IPARCEL arrived in 20 days, then it got delay to 50 days, now even some order been lost in mail. When ever i contact AMZ US for this, AMZ US never hesitate to replace me the order with upgrade to faster post at their cost. IPARCEL suppose to hav tracking no but they never update it. I got lots of package already received but in their tracking history, it shown in US werehouse.

I think the main reason IPARCEL delay is due to all blu-ray crazies like us made too many order until they cannot cope with the high demand. ha..

Recently I pre-order a lots to avoid the IPARCEL. I re-order 10 disc at once with dif release date, so AMZ US will deliver via Standard shipping 1 by 1 whenever it is release.

something to add to Dirtrun, Life is Beatiful is one of the best, do not missed it.

Hi Sophan,
U can check out the AMZ UK for box set, very cheap there, most big hollywood movie is free zone, wait till sales, eg. BORNE TRILOGY/ALIENQ/DIRTY HARRY BOX SET/GODFATHER/MATRIX TRI etc.

all zone free at very low $, the only weakness is the awful packing.

blu-ray crazy? over purchased? no place to store?? addicted ka....? hahaha... now u all know!
i still remember the 'poison' that we get around here not so long ago that started all these purchases when blu-ray was rather new in the market...  biggrin.gif

luckily those days already passed for me. now only looking forward to cheap2 sales like the annual favorite - the Black Friday sales. only can afford during that period...  blush.gif
amazon.com used to have periodically sales like the infamous BOGO, B2G1 etc etc.... but now no more; mainly because during those time they are encouraging people to upgrade to blu-ray from dvd, but now if they do that they only put those old/unwanted back-catalog titles  whistling.gif
*
ha, i remember last 2 years christmas AMZ blu-ray sales like crazy, lots of good title at $7 only. AMZ still have some interesting sales like Father days sales, Holloween Sales, Thanksgiving Sales.

I got the UK Otimum version of Last Emperor, quality ok but no subtitle with director's cut(480i),
Criterion Zone A quality is better.
however all UK & US are in 2.20 aspect ratio. the original ratio is 2.35. i think it will be rerelease in future at 2.35. (Apocalyse Now been released at 2.35)
