How to root:

First method:
If you have adb and you know how to use it!
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Second method:
If you have Odin3 and you know how to use it!
Your data and programs will be deleted!!!!
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Source and update.zip file

Firmware Websites:
http://www.samfirmware.com/apps/auth/login...OTECT-i9000.htm
You need to register and log in to access the firmwares

Odin3 software and .PIT file
http://www.samfirmware.com/apps/auth/login...OTECT-i9000.htm

How to flash new firmware:
You’ll need the following to flash the phone:
- ODIN 3 version 1.0 (flash program)
- .PIT file (the boot file of the phone)
- USB cable

1. Make sure you have Odin3 and the firmware ready.
2. Turn off your phone and take out/remove any memory card and sim card.
3. Go to Download Mode by holding/pressing Volume Down+Home Button + Power Button until the screen show up Download Mode with Android logo in working like this
user posted image
4. Open Odin3 at your pc and plug the micro USB from you pc to your phone.
5. It will detect your USB and show your USB port number with yellow background(COM7) like this(ignore the Message):
user posted image
6. Make sure you place all the firmware files(PDA,CSC,MODEM) and .pit files into Odin3
PDA = CODE
MODEM = PHONE
CSC = CSC
You can download the .pit files from Samsung-Firmware website too..
7. Click Start and the flash will be in progressing..
8. After finished, your phone will be reboot(take some time) and you have successfully flashed your phone.

DXJG4 Firmware
http://www.multiupload.com/4EQOPSH2P6

You need 7z to unzip.
There are 4 files in it; the CODE, MODEM, CSC and PIT513 file.
There is no necessity to put the MODEM into phone and CSC into the csc of Odin3, because CODE tar file already included these 2 items.
Please use PIT513, with Re-partition checked.
If you use PIT512, it will fail.
P/S: Swype contains bahasa indonesia and melayu. useful for our malay friends.
Locale we have english us and uk, bahasa indonesia, melayu, tieng viet, thai, koren and mandarin. would be useful for those who knows viet and thai.

Guys, I have 3 questions only.

1. Anyone selling Samsung Galaxy S I9000?
I am looking for second hand.

2. Is it able to upgrade it to Gingerbread?

3. Able to read and input Japanese Characters?
I did a little of google, but those information on Google was seemed to be quite old, not sure anyone here can share?

Really looking forward to Gingerbread. No more lagfixing days. I wonder will the new kernel improves on the read/write speed of the internal SD's FAT file system.

WhatsApp still pretty much lag badly on speedmod.

DOC XXJPY, no wipe from XXJPX, i think the battery was suck, did not play around with it after installation, no data or system lagfix, on voodoo 5.0.3.

fully charge 100%, unplugged dropped to 98% , then go to sleep, no backgroud programme running, this is the result:

Attached Image

I saw this morning, i was like ohmy.gif this is so called X'mas present from DOC or Sammy rclxub.gif

Felt that, JPU still the best amount all the 2.2.1 in term of battery consumption.

You don't have to root to flash darky, you just need CWM or 2e recovery.

So, either flash to eclair rom, or find something to change your 3e to 2e

-.- no need to root to flash eclair.

go http://www.samfirmware.com/WEBPROTECT-i9000.htm Download any eclair rom (i normally use JM7, 512pit, no need to check anything)

Flash with odin,

then get CWM, then flash darkky. Please go read darkky's thread, there's a tutorial video there.

I stay in Serdang, my job nature require me to travel to different customer place and apparently I think I lost it. And I have this mindset on my mind that I prefer get the ORI one if the price is not that crazy.

Also appreciate if any of the forumer want to sell off theirs.

yea i am downloading JM8 instead.. but they said this

What can i do if i have only one file?
If you have one .tar file than is this the PDA version.
When you flash the PDA version everything will work the same like a full firmware.
Thats why many links have only one file!

Please when you have only one file SKIP RE-PARTITION!
Use only .PIT files if you have 3 files!

so i do i still need the 512.pit file? and do i need to check repartition?

This is very subjective to answer. Some users last for days, mine last for hours... It depends on how you want to use it.

I know some just say to use it for some sms or minimal phone calls and little bit of this and that, but I can say that once SGS is on your hand, you will use more than just that....... blush.gif

No fix for now. Anyway, i realize it drops from 100 to 90 quite fast, after that back to normal.

Guess that the scale for battery display is short from 90 to 100

It still drops very fast for me below 90%, so long as my wifi is on. Now i down to 6%. Want to drain it totally. Charge it up to full n do a battery wipe while connected to power. See if it helps.

Yes, impressive to finally see Flash playing in a mobile browser but not really speedy. Most times I leave plugin-support as 'on demand' so I can choose which Flash part of a web page is activated.

Unfortunately if u wanna flash the JPY, u have to flash stock JPU 1st (can download from samfirmware), if you just flash JPY, it will vibrate and not able to boot at all. Here is my steps.

1) odin JPU, place all the PDA, MODEM, CSC, PIT 512 accordingly, TICKED REPARTITION, then start
2) odin JPY, place the PDA file with UNCHECKED REPARTITION, then start
3) odin CF-root JPU, place the .tar file at PDA and again UNCHECKED REPARTITION, then start ---- this step is to get 2e plus root

That it. I didnt do the update.zip as at the moment i do not need CWM, if u need the CWM, place the update.zip in ur sdcard, at the recovery(2e), update twice, u will get CWM.

Anyone using Doc JPX with voodoo kernel? I can't watch anime at chruncyroll because the sound is lagging... I don't have this kind of problem last time with speedmod + JPO.

Is it rom or kernel problem?

I hv no idea about N900. I think as long as flash 10.1 is supported, it can load the flash in fb..

i copied out the stock JPY framework, trying to do the batt mod at the UOT kitchen, i managed to cook it, and flashed it via CWM. Once boot, phone keep vibrate despite able to enter to homescreen, then lotsa FC windows pop out.

However if using custom ROM, this aint a problem. Anyway to get around it beside using custom ROM?

Let me try to simplify this further, using my experience with Eclair JM9 firmware:

PIT - Use 512 file
Repartition - Enable this
PDA & Phone - Download from http://www.multiupload.com/A6ACXWHMKB
CSC - Asian CSC - http://www.multiupload.com/GMEWD57TNE

Info/Instructions at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=802909 .

My only complaint regarding the SGS is relatively poor battery life (compared to my earlier phones, Nokia 5800XM and BB Curve 8900). Other than that, SGS totally rocks. Some here complain about GPS issues, but since I don't depend on GPS for my survival (if I did, I'd probably buy a standalone GPS device) I don't face any issues with it.

My guess is that DHD will have the same battery woes as SGS, but since I've never tried the DHD, I can't say for sure.

Yes, so far we don't have major issue on the phone except the software isn't great compare to HTC, some owners are facing screen issue where the color turned yellowish, which is rare case. SGS has a lot of fun on customization

In my quest to resolve the FsUsbService64 Service Initiali Failed errors, I found a newer version of KIES on this website.

http://dls.scione-music.de/KIES/

Downloaded and installed Kies_1.5.3.10104_66.exe 20-Nov-2010 16:14 136M

and voila, no more errors !! Problem Resolved !! Loads super fast as well.

However, I am not sure where this version come from as it is newer... than official Samsung version. If any one knows, please share.

If you have USB driver issues, click on KIES pull down menu at top left and click on Driver Recovery. It should resolve your USB Driver issues.

Oh I see. You can go ahead and apply Darky 6.0 first, and then factory reset and wipe if you face issues after the upgrade. Read the steps in detail at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=814091

6. Select "Apply SDCARD:update.zip" (use volume keys/rocker to move up and down, and HOME button to select).
ClockworkMod Recovery will boot now (you may have to do the "Apply update.zip" twice for ClockworkMod Recovery to show up).

but nothing shows up clock work recovery doesnt start... did i put the file in the wrong place or something?

if im not mistaken, stock firmware hasnt been deodexed so u cant simply edit the framework.
where else most custom ROM is deodexed where u can do whatever u like with it smile.gif

I did modified my JPA framework for animation transition and batt mod. Is JPA and JPY having the almost same framework? I mean UOT kitchen can cook JPY framework.

My steps is a bit different than yours. Instead of flashing, I'm using 7zip, Root Explorer and Mass Storage combo.

Did you read and follow the part about multiCSC and what you need to do after flashing the JM8/JM9? Sorry to say this, but I am starting to sense that you're either not reading enough or not understanding the details of what you are reading.

You don't need root to run adb. Just turn on usb debugging on the phone and ensure you have working copy of android SDK (tools folder as that's where the adb.exe is) on your PC.

Yes, a number of powerful ADB commands need a rooted phone, especially commands that require you to execute 'su' command. Other than that, the normal adb commands can run fine on non-rooted phone.

*
in my opinion, STOCK cant be directly use at the UOT kitchen.... you must be DEODEXED to do that without any problem. you can however do the deodexed yourself. not hard, just time consuming.

Busybox will come with most root packs. Dunno about that CDC I never flashed it before.

Added on December 22, 2010, 8:58 pmActually, Narako, you're making yourself worry for no reason. If you wanna go to darky 6, and you're having a standard sgs with download and recovery modes available, just check the first page of this thread and download eclair dxjg4 sea firmware then follow steps to upgrade to darky. No need to worry about csc or busybox or adb.. any more problem just pm me I will try to help further..

I don't want to prevent sleeping. I want to know which app caused the non-sleeping. Something is hogging the phone and made me lost all battery power in 1 day.

Btw guys, I realise the left side of my screen, about 1 pixel straight down, there's a line with green hue. Probably because the pentile matrix makes it look greenish. Anyone experience this?

ive read somewhere that it is a normal thing... i havent actually taken the time to realize such a small line biggrin.gif

APN is a setting to enable you to use 3G internet on your phone. The settings depend on what network you are using i.e Maxis, Celcom, Digi etc
So the Darkyy's Rom includes a big list of APN settings all over the world so when you finished flashing, you can straight away use the 3G internet without setting it up manually

I hope my explanation is crystal clear happy.gif

I think SGS has a temp kill switch. When the temp goes up to dangerous limit, it will auto-shutdown. I experience once. blink.gif

hi guys...

in darky thread in XDA..
"This means for EVERYONE > You can install v7.0 over ANYTHING.
You don't have to do anything else - just install & enjoy."

does he mean no need to do anything, like disable speedmod lagfix or revert to the rom that have e2 recovery??...jz use Apply SDCARD:update.zip to upgrade the rom??

Narako:

So ur experience on 100% for 5 mins is with the cable remain plugged or unplugged, as most of us here with JPX, the battery bug is there, ie once fully charge to 100% and unplugged, it will drop to 98% or 99%. This also happen in stock JPX

Unless u can maintain for a longer time, i dont consider it solved. I can maintain 100% for abt 5 mins too by doing a recal of the battery n, wipe battery stats n leaving the charger on for sometime after its fully charged. Previously b4 doing a recal, the level drops immediately if i pull out the charger. But i dont consider the prob resolved.

I use APN on/off by curve fish since Eclair till now, no problem at all. I also use the curvefish 2g-3g to switch as well.

But for Froyo onward, u can jz press on the power button, then switch off the data from there.

For those contemplating on flashing to any JPY ROMs, probably my experience can help to answer some questions you may have on the steps taken.

My setup/steps:

Initial ROM: Doc JPA + speedmod K10x

Done over a period of a few weeks of course. Just showing you the steps I went through.

-> Odin - JM9, repartition 512 pit

CWM

-> Darky 5.1, factory reset, wipe cache + dalvik

-> Darky 5.x, no reset, only cache + dalvik wipe

-> Doc 4.0, no reset, only cache + dalvik wipe

-> Doc 6.0, no reset, only cache + dalvik wipe

-> Darky 6.0, no reset, only cache + dalvik wipe

-> Darky 7.0, no reset, only cache + dalvik wipe

(I use DOC no-wipe versions...obviously)

All done with no lagfix and with ROM's own kernels.

If these are of any help... icon_rolleyes.gif

for new darky rom, the lagfix is disabled by default right?
so far its quite similar to v6 except for the UI change in MIUI music player and the dialer (i prefer the transparent one... fresher look)
the batt drainage i havent tested yet charging the phone back to 100% then test again...

heylo guys.. this thread is so interesting. unfortunately im very2 noob to understand all this.. but somehow overheard the darky custom ROM is super blazing fast and it look cools tooo..

I would be more than happy if u guys can teach me how to do it from the first step. FYI i already put the Darky V7 & CWM in my sd card. Both files in the .zip form. Ive try to do the recovery.. but it seem not working..which is my SGS doesnt want to run in the recovery mode. Could u guys help me with this?

FYI.. im running froyo 2.2 DDJP6, Kernel : hardcore@speedmod-k10k

Really appreciated if all the taikos here can help me and other noobs here. thumbup.gif

i think you can just remove the battery... try and go back to recovery mode... if u cant then try to go to dl mode... if you can then u should flash back to stock rom again and retry the process... but im not sure if my instructions are accurate, you should ask the proper ppl over here... im just a silent reader tongue.gif

try refer to first post.. get ODIN
I had same issue with you before(even most of us here).. nod.gif
download mode = volume button down +menu button+power button

BTW, I kept flashing Insanity ROM which deletes all mys game saves, sms, logs, etc.. but with titanium backup all those can return back right?
if so then it seems really useful smile.gif

3.HTC usb menu (can be fixed with a script made by dexter, and smali to some jar's)
4.Turning of the device
5.HTC's hibernate mode
6.Lockscreen( pressing power to bring the phone from standby will not get a lockscreen after like 5min, plug the device to usb cable and it should bring the lockscreen up)

for those having battery drop from 100% to 98%, try this from xda :

"flashed 7, and its very nice. Even the battery issue of 100% -> 98% has gone now after following the instruction of keeping the battery at 100% charged while flashing and it worked like a charm."

real paper is most reliable as always. icon_rolleyes.gif

But there is another app call "world newspaper" can be downloaded from market. It works like press reader. And it is FREE. After you install it, do check out the magazines section, it has a great collection of good stuff. whistling.gif

Some feedback on battery life.

I surf online for 15 minutes, battery drop 5%.

I'm on Darky's 7.0.

Update: After 20 minutes, total battery drop is 7%.

Yea I brought my friend to check out DHD phone, played a little with it. Not really impressed by HTC Sense though. I find the UI look rather old to me. But I like the widgets and integration with maps though. The app drawer stutters a little. The camera UI wasn't impressive but the pics taken are better on the computer than SGS (I assume). The worst of all, is the screen on the DHD. Looks so washed out compared side to side with my SGS. I think SGS still is much better until the LG Optimus2X is released.

so I have a question :
can I push samsung app from JPU/JPX/JPY ROM into my current custom JPO ROM?

tried using AndExplorer and it says fail.. tried using RootExplorer and it didnt show up in the /system/app/ directory.. also tried installing it like any other apps and it says 'Installation Failed'.

must it be from same base ROM ?

my results were roughly 3%-4% wifi surfing on this thread (2 posts) and 9pages of GSMarena for a total of 15mins+/- ...
wifi signal was on full bar, i suspect the drain might be caused by the antenna trying to get a stronger signal if it isnt strong ...
