A: Ipad comes with international warranty. You can just sent in to any authorized apple's service centers . How long the repair/or replacement will depend on the seriousness of the fault . oh ya.... anyone can contribute answers for some frequent asking questions such as
1) Pricing of ipad in Msia.
2) Can i downgrade iOS? and the way to downgrade?

etc....

make it the first page (FP) useful a bit bit, since i think no one will bother click the link and read it....

cheh i to type out the pricing when apple.com store itself has text version.

now i'm thinking 16GB vs 32GB vs 16GB 3G.

so far 16GB 3G is lowest in the pack cos i don't like the idea of getting another data plan.

do you guys find additional 16GB useful? normally what's the size of apps? like say games for instance.

each game i mean big game is about 500mb because it is in HD.. i personally think 16gb not really enough..

depend what kind of games you wanted to play... so far my biggest apps is not game...it is E-book... 1.7GB.... called "Element" or something...

about the storage it depend what kind of users and how to use it...if you like to store whatever apps then 1TB give you also no use.

If u like to keep all yur stuff in the iPad then 16 Gb is not enuf
If u don't always have access to ur com/ laptop then 16gb not enuf

U can have 50 games but the one u actually play is less than 10 same goes for movies/ music

thanks all. cos i not familiar with iPad, the available apps and what other stuff so the size is an issue. not like computers, i already familiar with typical file sizes and have no issues with buying new hard disks. biggrin.gif

i think time for me to apply the logic similar to the formula used many years back

size you buy = (size you want x 2) + 1 level higher. of course that's not to say i going 64GB la. 32GB looks reasonable enough.

try "ifunbox.exe" , it is like a program enable to acess files in ipad like thumb drive, err i mean like window browser mode... not sure need to jb or not...if need to jb then forget about it.

dis u guys noticed that in apple malaysia they did not change in techspecs of ipad the functional of the mute button (in external buttons and controls column). its still 'rotation lock button'

I am still using iOS3.2.2 (JB). So once if upgraded to 4.2, it will become "MUTE" switch instead of "ROTATIONAL" switch?

I have a noob question that nobody at Machines seems interested to answer. Can I play back a Powerpoint presentation on the iPad using a 3rd party software? Is there a cable to connect the iPad to a VGA LCD screen?

require install itunes in pc first.

2. Powerpoint NO - convert it to Apple's Keynote

FYI, just use your existing PowerPoint ppt file, it works with keynote, I'm using it everyday for my work, sometimes the margin does run out a little and I don't use animation on my slides. If you want to use it for something else, like cloning as seen on laptop, then you need to jb it.

Some games are compatible with both iPhone and iPad and will have a '+' sign under it saying "This app is designed for both iPhone and iPad" (like Infinity Blade).
Some games will have an Ipad version (normally with name like xxx for Ipad or xxx HD like Monkey Island and Red Alert)

Trying to update to iOS4.
Keep getting error. Some thing like error 1602 or 1601.
Then i restore back to previous iOS3.

im using 2 account of Digi BroadBand (diffierent user name)
On my Huawei usb connected to HSDPA but my ipad only attempt to edge,

After remove my ipad micro simcard and put in my huawei (with adapter)
It connected to HSDPA...

Do any one had the same problem that ipad cellular connection is poor? or just mine unit?

if u install too much stuff if u restart the ipad the entire thing will crash. U will be unable to boot it up except restore your data.

its not good why if u have alot save game files u will lose it too.

Restore original firmware u will lose all your save game files.

hmmmm coz when i bought it, its already 4.2 so the only jailbreak was on 4.2.1 so i just went for it... i don't know how to downgrade...

Btw, i saw on some blog saying iOS 4.2.1 wil lbe coming out with untethered jailbreak before xmas?

delete the files then redownload it again via iTunes or ipad.
press the icon for long time in ipad until got "x" mark appear and the icon is shaking, then you can delete it manually in ipad.

GTRacing game i didnt install, so canot help you. unsure.gif

Not a big problem. Just don't turn off the ipad. I never turn off my ipad. Only put to standby mode.

Hie guys, how come my iPad can't sync with my iTunes 1? I connected my iPad to my MacBook, thn i click on the sync button, but it doesn't transfer anything from my MacBook to iPad. Tried many times, but it just won't transfer. Any1 encounter this b4? Thx.

So far I'm using 16GB and still sufficient to me. Most of my spaces are taken up by HD games. biggrin.gif

I don't have movies stored in my iPad at the moment. Only games, photos, music files and e-Books & e-Mags. biggrin.gif

I still have 7.2GB space to go. laugh.gif

I have the 32gb 3G + wifi. Luckily didn't buy only 16gb cos now left less than 10gb after apps installed. But if your usage basic basic only (games nowadays are like 300mb cos HD version!), then maybe 16gb enough. Someone asked me whether to buy now or later....well my sources said if later maybe 1 year later and not sure about the specs etc etc. So if you want it, buy now to enjoy NOW isn't it? If new version comes out, just trade in, sell etc...just like the iphone smile.gif

If u keep loading stuff and don't delete give u 1tb also not enough. For me I only load necessary stuff 16gb more than enough. That's my reason for not getting 32gb. I got like so many hd games still left 3gb

Connect your iphone to PC ; at iTunes right click iphone ( or whatever name you have labelled it) - select TRANSFER PURCHASES - - sync . All your iphone apps will be in your computer under Mobile Applications. Connect your ipad and at itines/ipad window - select the apps tab - select sync apps and select all or which apps you need to sync. You can only sync Apple approved apps ; if you have any other non Approved ( JB or others) apps it will not be sync over

For Music : Have you ever sync with your PC ? If you have it will be in your PC. If not , similarly connect your iphone to PC and sync over first , then only connect to ipad and select accordingly at the music tab

Free app : VLC - but don' t expect too much. This is a shortcoming of the iPad more than VLC, as the iPad is really only designed to play back MPEG4/H.264 encoded to Apple's specifications. VLC doesn't seem to take advantage of the iPad's MPEG/H.264 hardware acceleration, and so HD files tend to be unwatchable and may cause crashes. VLC will warn you when you're trying to throw a file at it that your iPad can't handle.

Based on my experience playing movies on the ipad the BEST method is still to convert it to Apple's approved format. Hate it or leave it, the Ipad was so designed to " discourgae" one to use other 3rd party players. I have tried several and even purchase CinexPlayer and YXPlayer. All these 3rd party 's performances is erractic and inconsistent., waste of my money . Just try your luck , dependent on the quality of the videos.

Free reasonably good solutions to convert : HANDBRAKE and AIRVIDEO .

I downloaded Fringe Season 3 720 file. Converted using Handbrake. It s about 200 Mb file. Still cant play. Think I should try making it to less than 80 mb?

Ipad can play .mov in h264 but only in Main profile 3.1.

It won't support high profile 4.1 due to higher compression which requires faster cpu.

So i guess mkv in high profile 4.1 will not work in iPad.

I've been using cinexplayer to watch my tv series. No conversion needed. Just drag and drop into iTunes when you sync your iPad. So far not having any problems with it yet smile.gif

2) some apps actually develope to play facebook game, not sure is what game...maybe is farm ville something..ask uncle google.

Ipad comes with international warranty. You can just sent in to any authorized apple's service centers . How long the repair/or replacement will depend on the seriousness of the fault . Be prepare to wait up to 1-2 weeks. Note some of the centers are drop points - so it is better sent to center that can process it . If yours is a foreign purchase set - you might need to pay up to RM 60 for service charge ( dependent on seriousness of your ipad's problem )

the warranty thing last time i took my iPod to VR technology and it took them 5 days just to repair.. all done in 5 days.. very fast and recommended.. smile.gif

I would not recommend suction type car mount for use in car. Suction cup always come loose and you never know when it come loose and therefore you risk dropping your ipad when it happens. The ipad weight is also very heavy for the suction cup told hold especially in moving environment.

I bought one from ebay that clip on to the head rest and it works pretty good after some modification. It has a ball joint for adjusting the angle of the ipad but the ipad is just too heavy for it so i did some mod to make it work.

haha sharing is caring. Only today after today i will reach lvl 100 then i wont play di except figthing boss in heroic level with 4 players.

yes need to register. Because u using OS 4.2 and below dont have gamecenter. So only way is gameloft live

Yes, I do have some issues with it. I'm not using it in car by the way. Care to show me how do you mod it? I might ask my bro-in-law to help me if it is a complicated one. I just want it to be placed on my desk, in a stable manner. Thanks ya!

I realize there is a bug wit my ipad. After use internet like very long it will suddenly auto disconnect without reason.

I used to have this issue also, but since I upgraded to the latest issue, never encounter this again... believe it is either the memory or buffer issue.

screen protector if wanted cheap one you can get from garage sales, rm around 20-30 can get matte type, not bad for the price.

"HOLD the sleep/wake button (top right) and the home button (bottom center) for about 10 seconds. If that doesn’t work then try doing the same procedure with it plugged into a power source."

I use it for movies for my 2 girls mounted on the head rest so the can seat confortable on the back seat without having to hold the ipad.

May I know when do you charge your iPad? I charge at 20% notification. Is it good or bad? Still new to this iPad.

anyway, for my downloads - i use my Celcom 3G connection. super fast download, i donno why. my Nokia N900 shares the connection so the iPad does what it wants with it. My broadband connection is freed and can use for other purpose.

I would highly recommend SGP screen protector - it is available in most Apple resellers but is expensive - I bought in May cost me RM 120 ( inclusive applied to ipad ). Now should be cheaper
Usually my budget for screen protectors is low - all my smartphones I just use cheap type RM 10 range - works well for me. But for the iPad I splurge this amount as it is a big screen and unlike phones where time spend using is minimal - it could be hours on the iPad. Before that I use a RM30+ quality - it was poor and attracts fingerprint smudges making the ipad unsightly

I am not so sure about sensitivity, now the Matte (from DC Mugen), it look okay, responsive.

I just notice that the iPad I got has 1 defective pixel, bottom middle, and after I stick the screen protector. It is not bright, it is not dark either.

Got it from Times Square. Hmm, what should I? Do you think I should tear out the screen protector requesting a 1 to 1 exchange, since it is less than 7 days.

Confuse.

Hi guys, new ipad user checking in.

Bought mine at machines JbCS, but they only have the last unit left(which is 32gb wifi+3g). I wanted a wifi 64gb ipad...end up spending more for less hdd space.

been playing with it for 3 days, lots of fun.

ps: anyone want to trade my 32gb wifi+3g with a 64gb wifi version? =P

stylus just get "capasitive stylus" can oledi... alupen not bad for that.

apps that compatible with stylus? well stylus is a "extension of your finger" so i would say all apps actually can use stylus.

Penultimate http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/penultimate/id354098826?mt=8 is a nice app for quick writing using stylus or finger. So far I found it's the best. But a good stylus is very important too.

Can your iPad detect your 3G sim card ? If it can, most probably you have to set in the APN settings manually : Go to Settings to do it

You can only downgrade provided you have save your SHSH blobs

What happens if 1 day after you have so much data on your itunes in your pc and it crashes, and you have to reformat your pc or get a new laptop,

how on earth are you going to get back all those data?

Can you resync from the ipad to a brand new pc's Itunes to populate all that data back?

I don't have a clue... sweat.gif

when you get the new comp, make sure it is authorized with the same Apple ID as your iPad, so that you can sync apps and data.
prior to that, use Senuti (go google it) to copy songs from iPad to PC.

It cannot be recharged using the USB ports on any non-Apple computer. However it can be charged through an an iMac and a MacBook Pro. The iPad would not charge using any USB ports on several Windows machines, nor through the USB port on an Apple wired keyboard connected to the iMac.

You need a high power USB port directly on your laptop. Most laptop doesn't provide high-power USB ;-)

It will charge,even when it shows not charging, but the charging rate will be extremely slow. And it's nothing to do with laptop, is actually the windows OS. Even when using Mac but running on windows OS, it will not charge. It only charges on macs when running on Mac OS

Best to charge is still using the power source as using USB is damn slow for iPad

anoyone know of a good note taking apps? i am currently using penultimate but i find that it has a flaw.. because we are using our finger to write, the size of my writing tend to be bigger. I can effectively fit about 10-15 lines in one page. I m looking for a note pad that can magnify when you are writing so you can maximise the usage of a pgae,

the best way to charge when you are not near a power socket would be using an external mobile charger like eneloop mobile booster, able to charge even while you are using it.

Been a iPad user since Christmas.. Downloaded lots of apps since then. I been holding on to it almost 24/7...

Problem is when I start using my HP laptop I used my fingers on the laptop screen to click.

I had this problem too but I found out a way to overcome it in my case.
ASUS, MSI And GIGABYTE have released a new upgrade driver for their motherboards to allow more juice to flow into their USB ports. According to a blog spot I found, ASUS's driver is compatible for most motherboards. I tried qit out on my HP Compaq Presario CQ36 laptop and it worked like a charm.

My IPad has the charge icon once I plugged it in my laptop and completes a charge in a couple of hours.

Steve Jobs take/rants on 7" tablets on 18 Oct : If there is a 7" iPad , wonder how Steve going to justify his earlier opinions , summarized below

- Just a handful of credible entrants. Almost all use 7" screen, compared to iPad at nearly 10" screen. 7" screen is only 45% as large as iPad's screen. Hold an iPad in portrait view and draw a horizontal line halfway down. What's left is a 7" screen...too small. There are clear limits to how close elements can be on the screen before users can't touch accurately. We believe 10-inch screen is minimum necessary.Not big enough to make great tablet apps.

- Apple has done extensive testing, really understand this stuff. Limits to how close you can place elements for usability. Why 10″ is minimum size for great tablet apps.

1) Quickoffice HD does not have power point (Doc to go has it)
2) Quickoffice HD is for iPad ONLY (Doc to go is both iPhone and iPad)
3) Doc to go can open files with password (i can't find any reading on Quickoffice that can do this, but doc to go review shows that can)
4) Doc to go seems more seamless than Quickoffice HD
5) Doc to go 's Powerpoint can't read text box (Yes, its really ridiculous), so i bought keynote. On a brightside, keynote is awesome to use.

Just purchased an Ipad 32GB wifi from a friend in the US for 515USD. I read some reviews online saying that not all cases can fit onto the dock well. Anyone can provide an insight on this? What cases do you people use? Do you remove the ipad from the case all the time to put it on the dock?

i think the best one should be apple iwork application. since you dont mind forking out the money, i would say u should get page which is apple version of word.

No, because the USB modem only accepts normal SIM.
Else, you can find an adapter to convert micro SIM to normal SIM.

I scratched my iPad using Pogo sketch pen, I hope it is just the screen protector. If so, I'll just replace it when I have the time.

MSO2003 is Windows O/s wile iPad is MacOSX, two completely different O/S. Your best alternatives on the IPAD are either QuickOffice or Docs To Go ( about US$ 15-17) or Apple iWork Package ( Page, Keynote and Numbers , each one cost US$9.99 )

Does anyone have any experience ordering from the online store here in Malaysia? Ordered an iPad during the Friday sales and a case for it. Apple listed the delivery date as 25 of January, but from the DHL tracking number I received, the stuff is already at the Subang Airport.

Should I be expecting an earlier delivery as in before the 25th?

I'm in Shah Alam btw.

Well this sucks. DHL attempted to deliver my iPad to my home earlier today, but the damn guardhouse wouldnt let them through! So now I have to wait in agony for them to deliver again tomorrow. sigh.

Self collected my iPad at DHL Glenmarie at 10.30 today. The incase book jacket I ordered together with my iPad was delivered to my home at 5.45. Shouldn't be long for you guys now.

Facing the same issue here. Its a little irritating when thr slightest tilt any side will cause the screen to rotate.

because they change the rotation lock button to mute button, not sure which firmware change it back again.... well inside setting there can set back....i not sure where, you have to find your self because i still using iOS 3x. whistling.gif

I feel still okay for the changes, but anyway, rumors says that in iOS4.3 it might let us to choose the switch for screen rotation or mute function. So, we might wait and see.

I had the same issue on Good Reader but it all went fine when I switched to KeyNote. Might want to give that a try to save you the hassle of converting the PPT files.

Try going to Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings

I just got mine replace about a week ago, not to sure brand new though as it didn't came in the box only the unit it self, how to check whether brand new or refurbish? The exchange was done via machine service center.

Do you know what causing the image distortion? i really no idea what i done... its like using it now.. the next minutes i turn on, screen went crazy...

So, they didn't give u within an unboxing? Is it on the spot exchange?

4 months, no idea what causes it , much like yours using it one day , next day turn on ,all color gone but red.
The exchange took 3 days as they need to check and make sure that the damage was not done by water or gravity.
The iPad was wrap in a plastic much like when I first took it out of the box.

I got some problem here... My iPad (wifi only) got issue, keep on loading on net every time after return from standby mode. Basically I need to either restart/reboot or turn off/on the wifi to surf back again. Using safari.

Address in Ampang KL. Received on 19 Jan. But good service from DHL though. When they first delivered, nobody was home. And then within an hour of calling them to re-deliver, finally got hold of the Ipad!

I am facing the same issue too, but i thought this is normal? Happens in my iphone too. However, i notice this happened only after i upgraded to ios 4.2. Perhaps a battery saving feature?

Been looking for a good document reader , I have been using Goodreader and it actually works well but seems it is not really good in .PDF , quite lagging and not really smooth. Any recommendation? I was hoping for a universal viewer like Goodreader but work better than it smile.gif

im going to get a 32GB wifi only Ipad probably on this Saturday.
I will get a MiFi for internet connection.
Is there any issue for wifi only Ipad :-)

Go for U-Mobile's MiFi is the newer model compared to Maxis & Digi.... It's cheaper too.

Go download xvid4psp. Is the best software to convert video for psp, handphones and even iPad.
Get it here

Just remember to use these settings.

video format - .mov
Codec - x264
Encoding Mode - 1 pass bit rate (or 2 pass bitrate...much longer conversion time but great quality)
AVC profile - Main Profile (don't use High profile as the iPad is not fast enough to decode the video)
AVC level - 3.1
Bitrate - 1800 for animations and 3500 - 4000 for regular movies.
Audio - convert to stereo if you are converting from 5.1 etc

Not sure if anyone had replied this, so here it goes:-

Double press the HOME button, your screen will move up and a row of most used apps will appear at the last row (used to be the dock)...

Swipe right on this row (left to right la..) and you get the Rotation Lock icon (the one with a round circle arrow) on the left most... click on this and a "lock" logo will appear in the center... rotation is locked to the orientation you were at...

Exit back to homescreen and you will see the same locked rotation logo (a mini one) on the top row on the left...

iOS 4.2 removed the Rotation Lock from the switch, and iOS 4.3 will return it as an option to select either MUTE or Rotation Lock...

Ipad do not need screen guard. But most people still put on screen guard just to protect it from scratches.

Is Ipad expected to be slower than iphone 3gs as well? loading time for ipad seems to be noticeably longer.

It's normal, only Mac USB port can be used. Not defective unit.
Else normal PC needs high speed USB. The fastest way is plugged it to socket, fastest.

It's normal. Cos your pc is not equipped with a driver that will charge the iPad. Go to my last post and you can see the solution there.

ipad will shot "not charging" when you using USB plug on pc.... because the voltage is low. (actually it charge but very very slow.)
try plug on wall charger see can or not. smile.gif

Hi,

I'm using Videora iPad Converter to convert my videos. I want to hardsub subtitles into my videos so I place the subtitle (SRT) file next to the AVI file I want to convert and it works fine.

For MKVs with softsubs, I extracted the subtitle I want to be hardsubbed and placed the subtitle (SUB) file next to the MKV file I want to convert. Weirdly, I get an error code 101804 which means Resampling with input channels greater than 2 unsupported. I followed the steps in this thread http://www.redkawa.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4227 but it doesn't work. My output speaker configuration was already set to 2/0 - stereo.

Anyone has any idea on this? Thanks.

Some people might want consider Flash into their tablet before they purchase one.
But, actually Flash doesn't really matter on iOS platform coz most of the website
nowadays support HTML5. Unless, heavy ''flash game'' plays through iPad probably
concerned issues for some users. But, once u pick iPad you'll never go to other tablet...peroid. smile.gif

There are times when performances are a bit lagging if you have A LOT of programs running in the background (>20 apps). Just make sure you really close them by double-pressing the home button and press the desired app to be closed for 3-4 seconds, and press the (-) button

My dad long time ago wanted to buy a keyboard for the ipad.
But he said when typing on the keyboard later the touch keyboard will popup.
So he say no point.
Is there anyway to make it doesn't popup?
Is it even true when using real keyboard that touch keyboard will pop up?

I think won't be problem, if really got problem I think user already complain wahahaha.... Or go to the shop ask the shop keeper see will pop out or not...in lowyat plaza I saw quite many people using keyboard casing. tongue.gif

Finally managed to change my screen protector.

Fortunately, the scratches were on the screen protector and not on my iPad.

Your storage device may need to have an external power source. I think the ipad might not have enough juice to power up your storage device.

Wow you must have a lot of ebooks or pictures. No point putting a bunch of musics and videos on the iPad since nowadays got many decent streaming apps.

Encountered something weird while using the camera connection kit. Tried to import the photos from the SD to the Ipad. But it crashes after 10 photos or so. Anyone facing the same problem? Am on 3.2.2

few weeks ago i bought an ipad wifi 16gb,
im using 3G router to make a wifi hotspot.
i connect with my laptop and ipad.
my internet connection for laptop connect well,
but connection for ipad frequently lost.
what i can do is re connect every time.
another rubbish by Apple.

I just have my iPad 16GB wifi, so far have not encounter any disconnection wiith my wifi router which I was pairing with my laptop, iPhone and iPod Touch as well. You should try with another wifi hotspot and if the problem still arise, better send it back to the Apple Service center coz you might bought a defective wifi unit. If no problem with another hotspot, then the problem could be your 3G router.

3G router, connected to my laptop, mobile phone and iPad. Works flawlessly until today.
Your unit has issues doesn't mean it is rubbish.
By all means, sell off your iPad then.

I'm using ori camera connection kit. So far touch wood using SD card or USB connection.

To play safe, just sleep your ipad, put the connection kit ... wait a while and open back .... the photo app will open automatically.

I'm not a hardcore fan of Apple but at least iPad keeps me accompanied when I'm on move.

i bought ori camera connection kit. sd card reader work fine on it but USB connection not supportted. why is that. i had try using few USB to connect but msg pop up with usb not supportted.

anyone know why is that?

I had the same problem but it happen for a short period of time... Then suddenly everything turns back to normal (my luck I guess)... Heard there is a bug causing the problem but not all affected by it... But I'm happy with mine and always pair it with my huddle - surfing smoothly... biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Have Apple fix the camera connection kit issue on their OS4.2? Or still the same? Need external powered hub? It's said to reduce the current 100mA to 20mA rendering most of the usb and sd card useless

Bought my ipad yesterday night at Harvey Norman @ Ikano. I didnt know Ikano Mac Center close liau..lol

iPad has international warranty and can be claimed everywhere, it used to be Singapore before the launching in Malaysia. It is Malaysia now. smile.gif

Student pricing for macbook is 5% discount
and dont abuse this as some forumers here proudly do it and announced in the macbook thread. How can these guys be so proud of doing such - they have no shame at all

DO NOT buy an iPad or MacBook pro now. It's too late to get it now.

MacBook are going to have new refresh in this few weeks time while iPad is only a couple of months away.

Just wait for it.

Not sure bought Macbook, but if iPad 2 gonna launch in a couple of months plus a couple of months to reach our shore and iPad 3 will going to launch in a few month from that date......
