Hi, I am offered a contract based position of 'Assistant Project Engineer' in Kencana HL.

Just want to ask whether it is normal to start on contract basis in this company? Hesitating because of this condition, pay wise it's not high but not low either.

Advice needed urgently as the interviewer is looking for quick answer!
Thanks.

Added on March 4, 2012, 10:06 pmIn addition, how much is the minimum outstation allowance for O&G company? Please advice.

Most of the time it is contract based and then based on your performance only will you be hired as a permanent-its a common thing. And yes Kencana does it.

Hello,

1) I wanna ask you guys what course(s) should I take if I wanna get to offshore?

2) Does my engineering discipline interfere with the choice of course that I will be taking?

3) Can any one of you share with me the link where I can apply offshore-based courses?

Thanks.

I just want to ask all the experience person in this sub-section forum about what is my current value in term of RM because I didn't know about the current market. This is the summary of myself,in term of training and experience. For your information, this is my first company, previously I was Geotechnical Engineer for 6 months and I change my carreer towards Health and Safety field to obtain my Green Book Licence.

There's a reason why they want to bond you, if you get what I mean. wink.gif

I would say somewhere between RM5000-RM8000 would be OK.

Dear all,
I just wanna ask, if you look at StarJob last Saturday, there will be walk-in interview for various position especially engineer (Keppel, SG Company) at Times Square.

I have 2 questions:
1) Is it a good exposure before I go to Oil and Gas since it involves ship fabrication?
2) It says preferably 2 years experience, but I only have 8month internship experience. So should I try? Seniors please help me.

Yeah, but he said he work in SI/soil sampling company. As far as I know SI company paid quite low. Besides his experience is only ~1 year. Maybe around RM3.5-4k I assume.

Yup,true..offshore SI company paying is quite low although it is critical and there are not many major players in Msia (3-4 maybe).
So,I have to jump to other company to get better salary i guess, not by internal promotion. blink.gif

Even my previous assistant manager received low salary, and the company keep give him same amount of contract for 2years,he just simply walk away and didn't even bother to renew his contract. How sad cry.gif

Yeah, I noticed that. But his company wants to bond him for no reason (i.e. training or etc.). That's why I think RM5000-RM8000 is a fair enough. Well, RM5000 should be OK. tongue.gif

Well, if that is the case, you may want to consider moving to better opportunities. But unless you current companies can offer good working experience, then I would suggest you to stay a bit longer to gain the experience. Later on with the experience, more opportunities will come to you.
