Forumers, im UTPian and bonded with PETRONAS, but before PET organize a structured interview and while waiting for the offer, most of the students will have to wait for about 6-8months. in between that, is there any company would hire and give trainings to all of these students.? honestly i cant bear 8 month-do-nothing-at-home or just do an unreasonable-paid-work.
I will graduating soon and would like to ask for anyone experience this. thnks in advance.

QUOTE(azraeil @ Oct 1 2011, 08:16 PM) You hit the problems with Petronas right on the money. I mean, I was getting kuchirat salary while someone who is blue-eyed blonde hair was getting 7 times my salary tax-free with all the children education taken care off and he was doing the same thing I was doing (heck I was doing it even better). I was going home at 9PM at night while he left at 5PM sharp and by 5:30 was already enjoying beer at Santinis (Tuesday's is Petronas expat day in Santinis). We've complained and complained but HR was saying, nothing they can do, the then CEO was a strong believer that everyone was contributing the same to the company so there cannot be any pay difference between the technical people (Geology/RE/Drilling) and the HR/Finance people. The thing was, the demand for G&G/RE/Drilling was so high outside, so why the hell should we stay in Petronas while we can be the expatriates in the Middle East? By the time they came around to change the salary scheme, 1500 technical staff mainly in G&G/RE/Drilling was gone. If you look at Petronas now, we have GMs and SMs and we have the fresh grads or those with less than 5 years experience and NOTHING in between. That is why they have had to hire those mega expansive expatriates to plug the hole in their technical ranks. As I keep saying to the HR people, you are being bloody Penny-Wise Pound Foolish. This is what happens when you let HR runs the company. As a students, this is a good warning for me. thanks for sharing. thats why there are numbers of ppl go outside to find money

QUOTE(Zeu's @ Feb 28 2012, 10:51 PM) just give it a try.to be sure, you can contact the person in charge.I think it is much better to apply from this kind of advertisement because ur resume will directly received by the person in charge not like jobstreet. wait years until they respond to your application just send ur resume, you have nothing to lose Second that. I guess we wont lose anything. I also a bit shocked when I found out Mudah also posted this kind of opportunity. I checked the site everyday, all I found are just IT, HR, Kitchen Helper, Driver and Data Entry.

Dear all, I just wanna ask, if you look at StarJob last Saturday, there will be walk-in interview for various position especially engineer (Keppel, SG Company) at Times Square.
I have 2 questions: 1) Is it a good exposure before I go to Oil and Gas since it involves ship fabrication? 2) It says preferably 2 years experience, but I only have 8month internship experience. So should I try? Seniors please help me.

QUOTE(positive energy @ Mar 5 2012, 06:24 PM) 1) Which part of Oil & Gas are you interested? you have to be more specific. 2) There's no harm trying, they prefer mechanical actually. 1. I prefer to go into construction, which involves pipeline and so on. 2. Im from civil engineering background.

QUOTE(positive energy @ Mar 5 2012, 09:36 PM) yeah, Keppel is your target then, the engineers (if DESIGN engineer diff job scope)position they posted in job ad is actually more to Project engineer. Keppel builds ships, jack up rigs, etc, so once they get the order, u have to come out with the engineering drawings, manpower deployment, and u need to chase the workers like hell in order to get the jobs done on time on budget. in contingency times which is most of the time, you might sacrifies lunchtime, dinner, sleep,OT working until midnight, then the next day u have to clock in at 8 am. however, you will learn a lot , learn to take shit from boss, take things in pressure. benefitwise, i think it's very good as i have keppel friends (engineers) who received 10 months bonus last yr. just my 2 cents. i had interview with them before too. so the above is basically what they told me. on top of that, they do take freshie, they are in need of civil, mech freshie, Thank you positive enerygy!! Im still young so I think i'll give my best to endure all that. Is there any technical preparation to be done before the interview? since you had been interviewed before by them.

QUOTE(reign226 @ Mar 5 2012, 11:18 PM) Not sure exposure wise but I guess you learn everything these is to know about the rig. But not necessarily anything about the drilling side, apart from the equipments. Useful general knowledge I guess. You can try, they are always looking for more people to join due to attrition rates. Which BU? KFELS? In production, that would be the case. If joining Engineering, it's unlikely you need to work past 830pm. Be prepared to not have a life, but I guess that is not hard for foreigners working here. keppel offshore and marine.

QUOTE(firdaus87 @ Mar 6 2012, 01:19 AM) When will be the interview? Any further details on it? Tq! UGPM Added on March 6, 2012, 12:46 amQUOTE(Prothero @ Mar 6 2012, 01:28 AM) Guys, I'm currently pursuing my Quantity Surveying Degree. Im interested to join O&G career, as consultant QS works a lot, but then they got paid for a small amount, except for the boss that is. My brother who is an Architect and quite experienced in the Construction Industry, told me to go straight O&G after graduation. However, I do not know much about O&G companies in Malaysia, their workscope as a QS, etc. Firstly, I was wondering if big companies like Exxon, Shell or Petronas takes a fresh graduate QS to work in their company? And can someone tell me or link me a website to show the scope of a job as a QS in O&G? Thanks for the help! I think for Petronas they will ask the consultant to do for them. Based on what a Petronas senior civil engineer for project said, sometimes, in rare case, he will do it. So i dont think there will be QS position. If im not mistaken la.
