Wow many posts here. My friend just posted up recruitment drive for FE by Gyrodata.

He seems to be having a lot of fun, and the pay is superb. =)

For those interested may want to look it up.

How bad is the work at gyro? My friend works there but so far he tells me the pay per work ratio is quite high, cos they basically are paying for your life (need to be on standby all the time).

lwd = logging while drilling

logging while drilling is basically a 2 in 1 job where logging is done while the well is drilled. this method is quite famous rite now since it can cut the amount of time needed to do both logging and drilling.

mwd = measurement while drilling

mwd tools are basically installed as the bha at the drill bit. it measures either azimuth or inclination of the drilled well or the mechanics information such as drill bit rpm, temp, wob, etc

what about gyro while drilling?

Heriot Watt that good? Their distance learning program looks interesting, but does it mean you only get to access their lecture materials or view recorded lectures? NUS is currently offering Offshore Technology masters, they both cost about the same but the advantage is in NUS you get to attend real classes. Not sure how the distance learning thing will work?

Dear all,
I just wanna ask, if you look at StarJob last Saturday, there will be walk-in interview for various position especially engineer (Keppel, SG Company) at Times Square.

I have 2 questions:
1) Is it a good exposure before I go to Oil and Gas since it involves ship fabrication?
2) It says preferably 2 years experience, but I only have 8month internship experience. So should I try? Seniors please help me.

Not sure exposure wise but I guess you learn everything these is to know about the rig. But not necessarily anything about the drilling side, apart from the equipments. Useful general knowledge I guess. You can try, they are always looking for more people to join due to attrition rates. Which BU? KFELS?

yeah, Keppel is your target then, the engineers (if DESIGN engineer diff job scope)position they posted in job ad is actually more to Project engineer. Keppel builds ships, jack up rigs, etc, so once they get the order, u have to come out with the engineering drawings, manpower deployment,and u need to chase the workers like hell in order to get the jobs done on time on budget. in contingency times which is most of the time, you might sacrifies lunchtime, dinner, sleep,OT working until midnight, then the next day u have to clock in at 8 am. however, you will learn a lot , learn to take shit from boss, take things in pressure. benefitwise, i think it's very good as i have keppel friends (engineers) who received 10 months bonus last yr. just my 2 cents. i had interview with them before too. so the above is basically what they told me. on top of that, they do take freshie, they are in need of civil, mech freshie,

In production, that would be the case. If joining Engineering, it's unlikely you need to work past 830pm. Be prepared to not have a life, but I guess that is not hard for foreigners working here.
