QUOTE(Noyze @ Sep 8 2011, 10:26 AM) Welding engineer, go the NDT route and abseiling then go freelance, u get daily paid and get onto contracts. A friend of mine who went that route a few years ago after i advised him is drawing in above of 370k per annum and he is only 27 yrs old. As for entry into the OnG sector, ESPECIALLY in miri, Yes you do need someone on the inside, preferbly not family. I only decided to work in Miri after more than 15yrs after my dad retired, and STILL i have to live up to his name. Every marine contractor and even shell still remembers him DAMN!. But if you guys are looking for a way in, do drop me an e-mail with ur resume of course and i'll ask my friends and see if they're in terested. I'm not offering anything solid, but just to get you noticed. I have a very large network, where even shell n petronas staff ask me to help them get jobs elsewhere. I should open a head hunting agency! lol. but i love my job here! If you are interested in short term projects also I can arrange, I do not burn bridges and always keep in touch with my former colleagues as I was freelancing till a few years ago. So let me see where I can help. Oh yeah send ur c.v.'s to zyon55@gmail.com even fresh grades?

QUOTE(Noyze @ Sep 9 2011, 11:45 AM) I'm currently the HOD for MQHSE dept. qhat MQHSE means that u'll have to figure it out! hehehe it's a very niche group of people who are in this line of work. And i'm not getting many emails but im' relieved in a way, if not hancur lah lol. I've sent out a few c.v.'s to my friends and i hope they've called those guys. at least there's progress. I'm only here to help and inform of the reality of the so called oil giants. People on the outside see how awesome it is to be working client side, but do not know that contractor side is where the big bucks are, Oh plus on contractor side, we're actually laughing at the client's so called "project engineers" who are mostly freshies who don't know nothing lolx izzit something to do with health, safety and environment? MQ in front i'm not really sure....maybe its management quality...hahaha..

Hi everyone,
i notice althou there are alot of vacancies out there, they dun really need fresh graduates and they alwiz looking for more experience ppl. i'm a fresh graduate Chemical Engineering from UMS. been applying alot of companies since my last sem of study which is 4 months ago.... still cannot get any interviews. i have been changing the style of my cover letter and resume as well many times..because i thought these two are prohibiting me from getting any interviews. but i found out some of friends getting offer from those oil and gas companies. their results is almost the same as me. i even try to mimic their style of cover letter and also resume. As a fresh graduate, what they are looking for and what should i do in order to get notice... i haven't give up on applying thou.. haha.. any managers here for any decent advice? will be fantastically appreciate it...Thanks.

QUOTE(Noyze @ Sep 12 2011, 01:42 PM) OO i like preakzz already! hahaha anyways, dun think i've seen ur resume in my in box? i think u would stand out as being the only female candidate? lol hitsugaya2010, u're most probably sending ur resume's to the wrong person. You see in OnG there are various divisions and ur email thru the website will usually take AGES before you get any response, cos the group would see ur resume then check to see if any requests have been made by the other division. And guess what? the other divisions usually do not send requests up there until they really cant find a candidate suitable for a post available. So that's why networking is important. In such big organisations most of the time its the person in charge of a particular dept or division is the one that will decide. So best for your c.v. to get to that person first before he source out elsewhere. i have applied through their company website and also those job advertising websites...unfortunately..i dunno anyone in the oil and gas industries.. u ar rite.. we need connections...haha.. that one is alwiz what i heard from those who are successful in their bussiness or life.. ahahaha...

QUOTE(preakzz @ Sep 12 2011, 04:43 PM) Hi there. As for now I have not yet received any interviews invitation through any personal connection. Having connection is way easier but doesn't mean you have to rely on them all the time. Keep trying! Might use my connection for final solution if I failed these coming interviews though. haha. Have to. Can't stay spending money without any income. Later kena halau dari rumah. hahaha...yea i will keep on trying.. may i know what course u ar taking? u have plant design...i assume u are from Chemical Engineering rite? if yes..which university?

QUOTE(preakzz @ Sep 13 2011, 03:14 AM) @noyze thanks a lot for helping us here. @positive energy convo coming in 2 weeks! Skb? Can't recall anyone I really know from skb. I heard one of u got into haliburton months back. @hitsugaya those big companies came to utm each year fr recruitment. But I never hv d chance since they want a 3.50 and above. I've applied for so many companies I can't list them here. A lot. Fr slb u hv to register first n then use the job search. i think cpga plays an important role in applying job in oil and gas. normally those big companies take top students. i also below 3.5. can't register. something wrong with their website..or my computer.. anyhow.. thanks all the best to u!

QUOTE(judeultimate @ Sep 13 2011, 04:29 PM) erm...actually i'm not choosing lar...wrong usage of word... i'm actually intending to apply for internship...dunno whether intern in an MNC is better... i'm staying at Labuan, so i plan to intern there... btw, what is skg and skb? n u said ur results are not that good? hope u dun mind if i ask izzit below 3.00? and also, MNC O n G companies all want cgpa above 3.5? omg... hahaha..so far i know..Shell dun just see ur cpga..they see also ur extra activities... but like Exxon they really want first class students... btw.. having higher cpga have a higher chance because they first screen cpga then only extra activities...that's what i think... hahaha.. Added on September 13, 2011, 6:30 pmQUOTE(positive energy @ Sep 13 2011, 04:36 PM) SKG, SKB is course code of UTM, nvm then. Result is not an important aspects in terms of screening. I'm getting above cgpa 3.5 but still i find it hard to go into those MNC oil companies. i applied hundereds application , both local and overseas OnG but no news. what i do now is keep trying..... dun give up dude..!! ask ur frends who got into those companies..me also keep applying..but i think u have a higher chance! QUOTE(judeultimate @ Sep 13 2011, 10:14 PM) wow...i see...currently my cgpa is still above 3...but if worst come to worst, if my cgpa dropped to around 2.5 (choi~~~), will i still be able to get job in slb, halli or weatherford? what if i did my intern in these places? will they still employ me? i think as long as u keep it under 2nd upper class, the chances are there plus with ur own experience.. u will have a big advantage with those dun have. and it will be good if u know how to use some softwares related to your job scope. my frend told me, shell even take a student with 3.1, so anything is possible.. the condition is dun give up... if cannot get big companies get local companies to gain experience.. hahaha.. that's what i'm gonna do now..haha..

QUOTE(ben3003 @ Nov 17 2011, 02:35 PM) u should try sub con if u think ur result not pretty, go for small company then work it up.. alot of ppl i've heard from is they start at those sub-con, then later they joined petronas or shell later on.. Easier because after u work, ppl look at ur job experience, rather than toilet paper cert hahaha.. i tried that too..but to no valid so far... hahaha.. totally agree with ur statement.. i believe engineers can learn more at sub cons..

QUOTE(spawn89 @ Mar 5 2012, 10:59 AM) Dear all, I just wanna ask, if you look at StarJob last Saturday, there will be walk-in interview for various position especially engineer (Keppel, SG Company) at Times Square. I have 2 questions: 1) Is it a good exposure before I go to Oil and Gas since it involves ship fabrication? 2) It says preferably 2 years experience, but I only have 8month internship experience. So should I try? Seniors please help me. No harm trying? haha.. i mean they are expecting experienced person, but u have 8 months of experience and yet you can do well in your interview with the other 2 years experience guys.. u may stand a chance i think.. =)
