Welding engineer, go the NDT route and abseiling then go freelance, u get daily paid and get onto contracts. A friend of mine who went that route a few years ago after i advised him is drawing in above of 370k per annum and he is only 27 yrs old.

As for entry into the OnG sector, ESPECIALLY in miri, Yes you do need someone on the inside, preferbly not family. I only decided to work in Miri after more than 15yrs after my dad retired, and STILL i have to live up to his name. Every marine contractor and even shell still remembers him DAMN!. But if you guys are looking for a way in, do drop me an e-mail with ur resume of course and i'll ask my friends and see if they're in terested. I'm not offering anything solid, but just to get you noticed. I have a very large network, where even shell n petronas staff ask me to help them get jobs elsewhere. I should open a head hunting agency! lol. but i love my job here! yup fresh grads are always welcomed into the OnG world. the only difference is will those grads be willing to work or not?

I'm currently the HOD for MQHSE dept. qhat MQHSE means that u'll have to figure it out! hehehe it's a very niche group of people who are in this line of work. And i'm not getting many emails but im' relieved in a way, if not hancur lah lol. I've sent out a few c.v.'s to my friends and i hope they've called those guys. at least there's progress. I'm only here to help and inform of the reality of the so called oil giants. People on the outside see how awesome it is to be working client side, but do not know that contractor side is where the big bucks are, Oh plus on contractor side, we're actually laughing at the client's so called "project engineers" who are mostly freshies who don't know nothing lolx

hitsugaya2010, u're most probably sending ur resume's to the wrong person. You see in OnG there are various divisions and ur email thru the website will usually take AGES before you get any response, cos the group would see ur resume then check to see if any requests have been made by the other division. And guess what? the other divisions usually do not send requests up there until they really cant find a candidate suitable for a post available. So that's why networking is important. In such big organisations most of the time its the person in charge of a particular dept or division is the one that will decide. So best for your c.v. to get to that person first before he source out elsewhere.

Hi there. As for now I have not yet received any interviews invitation through any personal connection. Having connection is way easier but doesn't mean you have to rely on them all the time. Keep trying! Might use my connection for final solution if I failed these coming interviews though. haha. Have to. Can't stay spending money without any income. Later kena halau dari rumah.

@hitsugaya those big companies came to utm each year fr recruitment. But I never hv d chance since they want a 3.50 and above. I've applied for so many companies I can't list them here. A lot. Fr slb u hv to register first n then use the job search.

SKG, SKB is course code of UTM, nvm then. Result is not an important aspects in terms of screening. I'm getting above cgpa 3.5 but still i find it hard to go into those MNC oil companies. i applied hundereds application , both local and overseas OnG but no news. what i do now is keep trying.....

wow...i see...currently my cgpa is still above 3...but if worst come to worst, if my cgpa dropped to around 2.5 (choi~~~), will i still be able to get job in slb, halli or weatherford? what if i did my intern in these places? will they still employ me?

u should try sub con if u think ur result not pretty, go for small company then work it up.. alot of ppl i've heard from is they start at those sub-con, then later they joined petronas or shell later on.. Easier because after u work, ppl look at ur job experience, rather than toilet paper cert

I just wanna ask, if you look at StarJob last Saturday, there will be walk-in interview for various position especially engineer (Keppel, SG Company) at Times Square.

I have 2 questions:
1) Is it a good exposure before I go to Oil and Gas since it involves ship fabrication?
2) It says preferably 2 years experience, but I only have 8month internship experience. So should I try? Seniors please help me.
