QUOTE(Xerone @ Sep 16 2011, 02:26 PM)
Hey industrial experts, I'm thinking of developing a career in both technical and management. I have a good MEng degree in Mech. Eng. and have been working outside of the engineering field for 1.5 years and now thinking of going back to my passion.

I would like to ask which of the following career paths is better in terms of pay and professional development?

A) From Technical/Design/Engineering Consultant to EPCIC Project Engineer
B) From EPCIC Project Engineer to Consultant

I'm looking at specifically offshore structure engineering and petrochemical plant engineering industries. Thanks guys.
*
I will choose A) definitely. which EPCC/EPIC/EPCIC company you refer to? FosterWheeler? Chiyoda? Kellogg? JGC?

Hello all,

I want to ask you all one question:-

Is Shell MDS (Middle Distillate Synthesis ) Plant located in Sarawak a servicing company? B'coz it produces and supplies GTL products to Shell... Correct me if I am wrong...
Thanks~

Will it be too specific if just know DCS? Seems like the career path is too specific.

Is it possible for the experience gain to join consultant or just can jump to client?
*
No need to worry. in DCS you can jump everywhere, be it on client (Petronas, Shell, Murphy, Talisman, Hess, JX Nippon etc) and consultant/vendor side (Foxboro, WorleyParsons, Honeywell etc), be it in upstream and downstream O&G.

Especially in downstream at my old workplace Malaysia LNG, DCS people is highly sought. I know some ppl from Foxboro jump to MLNG nowadays. some DCS otai-kor join Shell MDS and Murphy Oil Sarawak

DCS technology keeps evolving. I see no reason of being too focused on DCS
