jutamind, VIP5 to BIZ5 is consider as upgrade. So no penalty & can upgrade. VIP20 to BIZ5 is consider as downgrade & have to pay penalty.

but the contract date is calculated from the starting date of VIP5 or Biz5?

Finally, both internet & IPTV is now fully working on the TP-Link TL-WR841ND !! rclxms.gif  biggrin.gif
Thanks to TP-Link engineer team in making the first retail replacement for TM's DIR-615  notworthy.gif

Our nightmare on DIR-615 is now gone, we can now get a affordable yet much better product out there, and we won't worry about TM's monopoly tactic anymore!  tongue.gif

I'll update the firmware download link (specially for TM-UniFi only) once I get confirmation from TP-Link team.

Stay tune .....

Wow, very kind of them to support us. I can't believe they just did that!. Might as well ask them to do the same for the others in the series biggrin.gif. The WR**43ND etc.

Still, openwrt for users with the know-how:P. I haven't gotten around to write a guide yet, no unifi (need ~ 4 weeks before I can start writing one, and a unifi user to help me).

Honestly, I say this again. Kudos to TP-LINK for the great support. Other companies would just ignore our pleas.

Their hardware is indeed great. I have two of their routers. TM should start using theirs (wireless-n for el-cheapo prices, how to resist?).

They just confirmed it will works on TL-WR841ND ver7.
The test unit I assisted them to test on my Huawei BTU is on ver7.1, I believe this is the version sold in Malaysia at the moment.

Currently they are sorting out internally now to re-confirm before releasing the official firmware.

Actually both vlan 500 & 600 has been hard-coded onto the firmware so you don't need to create vlan like the DIR-615, all the features & functions look & feel are exactly like the usual TP-Link firmware.
This custom firmware will use LAN port 1 for IPTV connection.

I have the latest beta firmware which I just tested ok for both internet & IPTV, if anyone really eager to test it out, you may email me: klseet@gmail.com

Contract renew once you upgraded.
For example you have used VIP5 for 5 months (contract 2 yrs),
upgrade to BIZ5 today & the 2 years contract starts today.

hmmm .. i'm just wondering what if TL-WR841ND ver7 can't work once i bought it ? Who gonna make it work for me ?

Anyway, i'm still happy and satisfy with my DIR-615 once i upgrade to the latest firmware (version 7.09 if im not mistaken, given by my fren) ..
Wireless stable, IPTV stable too. Can give it a try. Don't waste money to buy additional new router ..

just subscribe to VIP5 for the past 1 week and feels that download speed is much slower than my Streamyx 2MB last time. i'm just downloading some program exe file (mainly from US and China region), and not movies from download web site.

for example, now i'm downloading ppstream.exe from the main web site, and the download speed is 3000-4000B/s. this is freaking slow. is this normal?

also, browsing to China web site slow like hell. is this what you all on VIP5 gets as well or is it just me?

PPstream if slow from their main site, what you can do is use their mirror sites:
http://www.duote.com/soft/1640.html
Direct download:
http://75.duote.org/ppstreamsetup.exe

ok tried the direct download, it's fast. can get 100-150kbps.

but for other files, like the exe files that i download from filehippo.com web site, it's also slow like hell.... browsing to china sites also slow like turtle.

PS: I saw there's an announcement on the internet disruption to US on 19 dec. not sure whether this is one of the reason for the damn slow speed.

Guys, can I get a WRT610N with DD-WRT firmware to replace DIR-615, I'm still consider other alternatives rather than the TP-Link replacement, awesome though...score one for TP-Link...

If you are happy & satisfy with the DIR-615, then no need to change it.

Actually the whole idea is for UniFi users able to find alternate replacement in the open market with cost effective & better product build quality in mind.
Imagine what happen if there is no alternative and eventually the DIR-615 failed (which is very common) and we are forced to go back TM again??

I've been testing & communicating remotely here with TP-Link engineer team based at their R&D center in ShenZhen since Nov'10, trust me, they are really professional, committed and patient enough to eventually make a localised UniFi firmware just for Malaysia market.

TP-Link by far is the largest router/wifi equipment manufacturer in China+HK, recently they started to move into SEA market, they really want to promote their product over here.
if I'm not mistaken, TP-Link has signed a special partnership with Atheros to continue manufacture the most affordable yet effective Atheros base router, that probably explain why their product is cheaper than others.

Also, many of their products are now supported by dd-wrt, scroll down further to see:
ftp://dd-wrt.com/others/eko/BrainSlayer-V...2-24-10-r15962/

You'll be surprised to know that TL-WR-741ND ver1.x with Atheros 350Mhz 4/32MB is only selling about RM50, it's fully supported by dd-wrt, the cheapest dd-wrt with N-speed which I've tested so far ! nod.gif

If I'm not mistaken, WRT610N is on Broadcom chip, please note that Broadcom chip has problem creating vlan ID more than 15.
If you just want to get a dd-wrt to replace that DIR-615, try on either Atheros or Ralink chip.
Please note you can only create 1 vlan tagging on this 2 chips, you need to follow Rizvanrp's guide to configure the DIR-615 as bridge in order to watch IPTV.

Thanks for the info, how about DIR-825? It uses an Atheros chip...

help!
my router (dir 615) suddenly hard reset by itself after a blackout!
I know it hard reset because the password changed to default (blank)

I tried to enter the unifi username and password in the internet connection setup wizard but it didn't work...

what should I do?

EDIT : fixed... the problem was they changed the password, it wasnt the same pass as provided in the paper.
quite frustrated as they changed it without the owners consent, but glad the customer service was good and efficient

I have several computers in my house, and I was wondering if I have to connect all of them using the fiber optic cable from the modem, or if I can just use a RJ45 cable/Wi-Fi?

If I use RJ45 or Wi-Fi, does it defeat the purpose of having fiber optic? Is the typical speed on RJ45/Wi-Fi enough to keep up with the fiber optic?

Thanks.
