For those who were affected during the black-out around 7~10Dec, did TM call you guys to inform you the rebate?

Someone from TM billing department called this afternoon to inform such rebate and give the report number. This is on top on what I've claimed 1/2 month rebate on Nov'10 (the 175.x issue below) pending for approval.

Regarding the 175.x IP problem which I complained to TM on 23Nov, no one response. Finally when the black-out happened last week, I really tak boleh tahan anymore and decided to write to MCMC.

Now their technical department called and told me that 175.x is UniFi IP, is that true? If yes, why my office (Streamyx) is always getting 175.x IP? Furthermore I told them all the while I'm getting 110.x when the 175.x started to appear since early Nov'10, the network became unstable & slow, more frequent disconnection happen and finally the entire UniFi black-out last week.

I also complained to MCMC why are we getting charged on the 1300 UniFi support line. If UniFi is belong to TM, then the support number should be free since TM mentioned the VOIP is free to call any Telekom number nationwide.

Let's see what TM has to response to .....

I'm from Bukit Rimau, I always get 110.x since I applied in July'10, the 175.x problem started early Nov'10.
My friend in kepong also hit the same problem when he installed around mid Nov'10.
I believe one of the reason that many others who experience unstable or slow network might be due to this 175.x IP issue, definitely TM screw-up big time.

It's really sick to hear the lady who claimed she is from TM's technical department to keep arguing that 175.x is UniFi network.
So I asked her are you 100% sure that 175.x is purely for UniFi? And she is so "brave" to answer yes.
I asked again are you sure no Streamyx users will be on 175.x, again she said YES!

Then I told her my office Streamyx is ALWAYS getting 175.x, she was surprised and wants me to print screen and email.
I told her, by right TM suppose to reply formally on my complaint to MCMC instead of calling me for some unofficial yet untruth Q&A.
And if she insisted me to print screen, I'll have to rely her "YES" fact on the 175.x argument together with my print screen to MCMC, again.
Straight away she promised to investigate further and will get back soonest.

Obviously, she is not from technical department, just another lady from CS trying to "comfort & continue to lure" customer.

Honestly, I'm really fed-up and have enough to listen all their nonsense stories.
My request to them is very simple, just ensure I'm properly assigned to UniFi network through the right server instead of simply verify and mix-up my ID with other Streamyx port.

Wah, I'm quite sure that 209.x is not UniFi, that could be the reason of the slow-down....

Is TM trying to "hijack" customers bandwidth, or are they running low on UniFi IPs ??

Well I really don't mind whatever IP they assign as long as TM can provide the intended service speed.
My problem is whenever I'm on 175.x it is totally unstable & slow, cannot even open page properly, sometime even worst than Streamyx.
The download/upload speed between 0.8~2.5MB only, I'll never get more than 3MB on my VIP5.

But after I keep disconnect & connect again until I get 110.x then the speed straight away back to normal.
The exact same situation happen to my friend in Kepong.

Previously a TM CS officer did explain by right the 175.x should provide equal speed as 110.x but somehow they are facing problem to assign 175.x at my area.
The funny thing is, after the total black-out last week and my letter to MCMC, I'm having a 110.x IP for almost 4 days already without disconnection.
So, how do we explain this?

Again, I'm quite sure, there are many customers out there who hit the same problem, if we continue to keep silent about this, we'll forever complain and TM will forever tell us "we have network problem" as their de-facto generic response to close the case for good.

I'm not familiar with those IPv4 / IPv6 things, it seem like very soon that all the 4.3 billions IPv4 addresses will be completely run out by end 2011.
Perhaps TM already run low on IPs now, whether TM has deployed or get ready IPv6 or not, they should address this business issue & plan upfront first, rather than simply assign customer back to some old Streamyx IP pool without proper bandwidth arrangement & adjustment.

And let's see how much TM is going to boom us again to migrate to IPv6 later on .....

Oh, I was referring to the SpeedTest.net result.
If I'm on 110.x I can get around 4.8Mb/s down/up and uTorrent can go around 550kb/s down/up
But once on 175.x can never go near these speed.

I just tested on my RB250GS (SwOS 1.2) with Buffalo WHR-G300N (PPPoE without any tagging), both internet and IPTV are ok.
Later I upgraded it to SwOS 1.3 tested again also no problem at all.

So I think something wrong on your RB250GS.....

My setup as follows:

BTU[LAN1] --> [LAN1]RB250GS[LAN4] --> [WAN]WHR-G300N
..........................................[LAN5] --> IPTV






If you wish to run dd-wrt on your router (only Ralink or Atheros chip), you may create vlan?.500 tagging and plug-in directly to BTU.
For IPTV, you may follow Riz's guide to configure as bridge for IPTV only.
So you don't really need the RB250GS.

Surely I don't expect much can be done by MCMC and/or TM, it's typical la .....
Hopefully with more & more customers complaints & feedback will pressure them to improve .....

Connect your PC to either port 2/3/4/5 only (port 1 default as WAN port), run WinBox and click on the radio button to search your RB750G:

wait for few second, you should see the RB750G mac address appear, select and click connect to proceed.

the factory default logon is "admin" password is blank.

Note: set your PC to obtain IP automatically

The 175.x was really bad before the major breakdown last week, I did some tests just now seem like the 175.x is having similar speed with 110.x, but there were few times I'm still located at Brunei (using SpeedTest).

Also, I noticed that if I use dd-wrt router with vlan.500 tagging (eg, Buffalo WHR-G300N & TP-Link 941ND) to dial-up I tend to get 175.x more often than I use RB750, this is really weir ...

Wah, this is really bad .... you should make official complaint to MCMC (fax & email), then call them to explain your case and seek their help.
MCMC doesn't deal with CS and they will normally forward your complaint directly to TM higher level and surely someone will contact you in a day or two.

I thought your is RB750G?

Thought you might have tested, just wonder have you tried on another cable?
If all methods tried and still fail, then it's likely a lemon .....

Regarding the TP-Link-WR841ND testing, internet tagging no problem, but IPTV still no luck, keep showing "connecting ...." and no channels loaded .... still no idea what's wrong ....

yes, i did Wireshark capture data few rounds for their engineer, they mentioned that it manage to obtain IP from the IPTV server but somehow channels cannot be loaded like the DIR-615
there seem to be a particular IGMP v3 request (and responded by STB) right before the channels, such data somehow seem to be disappeared from 841ND

i'm not sure what's wrong, it might not be the chip/driver issue since 841ND is running on AR71xx, same chip as RB750

i believe the 841ND should have telnet/ssh since it's linux base OS
can you help to trouble-shoot?

if they did not response, call Yitong and tell him you are frow LYN forum and you've tested on those methods

Finally, both internet & IPTV is now fully working on the TP-Link TL-WR841ND !!
Thanks to TP-Link engineer team in making the first retail replacement for TM's DIR-615

Our nightmare on DIR-615 is now gone, we can now get a affordable yet much better product out there, and we won't worry about TM's monopoly tactic anymore!

I'll update the firmware download link (specially for TM-UniFi only) once I get confirmation from TP-Link team.

They just confirmed it will works on TL-WR841ND ver7.
The test unit I assisted them to test on my Huawei BTU is on ver7.1, I believe this is the version sold in Malaysia at the moment.

Currently they are sorting out internally now to re-confirm before releasing the official firmware.

Actually both vlan 500 & 600 has been hard-coded onto the firmware so you don't need to create vlan like the DIR-615, all the features & functions look & feel are exactly like the usual TP-Link firmware.
This custom firmware will use LAN port 1 for IPTV connection.

I have the latest beta firmware which I just tested ok for both internet & IPTV, if anyone really eager to test it out, you may email me: klseet@gmail.com

If you are happy & satisfy with the DIR-615, then no need to change it.

Actually the whole idea is for UniFi users able to find alternate replacement in the open market with cost effective & better product build quality in mind.
Imagine what happen if there is no alternative and eventually the DIR-615 failed (which is very common) and we are forced to go back TM again??

I've been testing & communicating remotely here with TP-Link engineer team based at their R&D center in ShenZhen since Nov'10, trust me, they are really professional, committed and patient enough to eventually make a localised UniFi firmware just for Malaysia market.

TP-Link by far is the largest router/wifi equipment manufacturer in China+HK, recently they started to move into SEA market, they really want to promote their product over here.
if I'm not mistaken, TP-Link has signed a special partnership with Atheros to continue manufacture the most affordable yet effective Atheros base router, that probably explain why their product is cheaper than others.

Also, many of their products are now supported by dd-wrt, scroll down further to see:

You'll be surprised to know that TL-WR-741ND ver1.x with Atheros 350Mhz 4/32MB is only selling about RM50, it's fully supported by dd-wrt, the cheapest dd-wrt with N-speed which I've tested so far !

If I'm not mistaken, WRT610N is on Broadcom chip, please note that Broadcom chip has problem creating vlan ID more than 15.
If you just want to get a dd-wrt to replace that DIR-615, try on either Atheros or Ralink chip.
Please note you can only create 1 vlan tagging on this 2 chips, you need to follow Rizvanrp's guide to configure the DIR-615 as bridge in order to watch IPTV.

I asked before, they've plan to do it but prefer to get the 841ND working first.
Once they released the first 841ND officially, I'll try to discuss with them on 941ND & 1043ND again.

I was D-Link fan too
But somehow the D-Link TM's DIR-615 Gx is really sub-quality compare to those normal DIR-615 on the retail market.
Something wrong in between D-Link & TM deal ......

The MikroTik RB250GS replacement is indeed widen choices and allow users to choose their own or even use existing routers.
Whereas RB750/750G is more for advance users which prefer vlan tagging + router in one cool box.

This 841ND advantage is all-in-1 vlan+router+IPTV+WiFi replacement, simple/neat & less equipment.
It's for general users, just need to update the firmware and plug-n-play exactly like the stock DIR-615. However, since it's on generic TP-Link firmware, some advance users may find the features lacking if compare to dd-wrt.

For me, I personally prefer RB750 2in1 vlan+router, it's less heat compare to RB750G, I don't think we'll have Gigab internet/IPTV for decades to come.
For wifi AP, I use 941ND with dd-wrt, for LAN computers/equipments I use a 8-port TP-Link Gigab switch, been happy & no problem with this setup for months already!

When something goes wrong, then only I pull out that DIR-615 for TM to trouble-shoot.
By right TM can just do all the vlan tagging nicely & allow STB plug-in directly onto the BTU itself, so users just need to setup PPPoE on their own router.
I've seem such setup in HK & SG, at least their ISP don't force users to stick to a particular router.

Sad to say, TM rather choose not to be on the "right" side ......

Any particular reason why you want to switch from Maxis broadband to UniFi?
If you subscribe to Maxis broadband, likely the current ZTE will be replaced by Huawei EcoLife HG850a BTU and the Aztech will be replaced with D-Link DIR-615
The rest of setup should stay the same.

Not necessary, there are several ways you may consider, depends on your requirement/budget/setup :

1. Configure the DIR-615 as bridge mode, then you can use any WAN router, just setup PPPoE (like Streamyx). IPTV can still be watch through the DIR-615.

2. Get a MikroTik RB250GS to handle the vlan tagging for both internet & IPTV, then you can keep that DIR-615 as spare. You can use your own WAN router, just setup PPPoE (like Streamyx) and connect to RB250GS.

Eventhough TP-Link has not official release the custom UniFi firmware, the latest beta firmware I've tested is working, few others also installed no problem!

For your current Belkin wifi router, you may consider option 1, for other choices, your decision!

Somehow I have problem running DDNS (for IP CCTV) on stock factory firmware, I've tested Buffalo, ASUS, D-Link, not working.
I have no problem with dd-wrt, even on same hardware, so I suspect sometime it's due to the stock factory firmware problem rather than DDNS itself.

Standard UniFi uses vlan tagging for:
vlan.400 - VOIP (by BTU)
vlan.500 - internet (by DIR-615)
vlan.600 - IPTV (by DIR-615)

Whether you require IPTV or not, you need to have a router which can handle vlan, at least vlan.500 internet.
The fact is those normal retail routers in the market do not offer vlan tagging feature, include your current Belkin.

So, you need to find a router which allow you to create vlan.500 for internet, got that?

May I know currently are you having problem streaming PC & YouTube on your Freeagent?
If not, then you should not have problem with DIR-615, but bear in mind the sub-quality DIR-615 problems ....

I'm not sure about the HomePlug model and your house cabling, mine HomePlug HL110E does not work between ground & 1st floor, I guess different house power cabling is different.
If your current setup works as per your requirement, then I don't see any different by just switching Aztech over to DIR-615 as they are just router.

You may consider adding a Gigabit switch at 1st floor for the Aztech/DIR-615, PC & HomePlug1, provided your current homeplug work well, this should improve LAN connection instead of relaying heavily on the Aztech/DIR-615.

"Cannot do Port forwarding", are you sure this is Maxis problem or your Aztech setup problem?
Please note not all factory stock firmware can perform port-forwording & DDNS well, you may want to re-confirm this point.

I pay around RM130 (including phone rental, tax, etc) for 1MB Streamyx ONLY.

I pay around RM150 UniFi I get:
- 5MB down/upload
- Additional 8MB IPTV
- A dect phone with new number call any Telekom fixed-line nationwide FREE

The lousy DIR-615 already got alternatives, what's your concerns ?

I think haven't started yet, at least I don't feed any slow down on uTorrent yet!

If I'm not mistaken, the ND was previous product range, removable antennas, square look with rather big LED lights in front.
The N is latest product range with more modern look, irremovable antennas, nicer LED lights on top.

If I'm not mistaken, the 841N v7 is on Atheros AR7241@400 4/32MB platform with AR9287@20dBm 2x2 MIMO WiFi NIC
DIR-615 has so many variant, the TM's Gx range seem to be based on D1 range, which is on Ralink RT3052F@384 4/32MB platform with Ralink WiFi NIC only, definitely no MIMO.

So I'm quite sure the 841N v7 is better than DIR-615, especially the WiFi.
I was told and read somewhere that generally, Broadcom & Atheros chip is better than Ralink. Atheros seem to be more open to release drivers for developers whereas Broadcom sometime not so open.
Broadcom used to be the "boss" initially, than Ralink & Atheros, now Atheros seem to be the "boss" in the market, battle continue and "boss" keep changing during the race .....

My personal experience, I prefer either Broadcom or Atheros, Ralink runs good on dd-wrt but generally not on factory stock firmware.
Broadcom is more expensive than Atheros & Ralink.

The current custom beta firmware only for TL-WR841N ver7.
Yes, the price is really affordable below RM100 !!

UniFi belongs to Telekom and Telekom OPENLY advertise publicly by saying all calls to TM's fixed line is free.
If it's overseas, I'm very sure consumers already file class suit action against TM.

We Malaysian are just too kind to them, and our MCMC is either sleeping or never bother to regulate.
It may not be the money that concern, but it's the way how a so-called national ISP dare to cheat public at large by adopting such immoral yet dirty business tactic.

I did, but MCMC just forward straight to TM, and TM NEVER bother to reply!
Previously when it was under Leo Moggie, at least MCMC will act on it seriously and Telcom/ISP will have to response officially to respondent.
I still remembered one of my past case with TM Selangor HQ, MCMC even sent 2 officer on site to withness our meeting, they did ensure TM to fulfill and adhere to regulation.

Years past, now I noticed MCMC is no longer function effectively like before, no different like "email forwarder".
To certain extend, you'll feel like complaining to another TM .....

I have a Buffalo WHR-G300N v1 on Ralink RT3052F@384Mhz 4/32MB platform (same chip with DIR-615), no way I can get DDNS or even some port-forwarding to work well on stock factory firmware.
After flashed with dd-wrt, no problem at all!! Same thing goes to my ASUS RT-12.
That's why I suspect it could be the firmware issue rather than chip.
