I have a few questions about Unifi.

Number one, i heard there were some security problems last time about unifi. Is it rectified now? If no, how to rectify it?

Secondly, is the router really THAT bad? If it is, can change to our own?

Gonna change unifi soon, but is there any issues i should look out for before/when switching over to unifi?

Bought the RB750G from landasan yesterday, got the unit from Khairi, a very nice guy. Thanks bro will chat with you again soon.

Just finished the basic configuration with the help from klseet's and oreomambo's config guide. Bro klseet, your webpage guide is very good (I just configure for PPPoE only no IPTV as I don't have enough gigabit port lol) rclxms.gif without it I'll have sleepless nights and pulling my hair out lol.

Bro klseet, may I suggest you include this step in your webpage guide?

3) Create a PPPoE interface and have it attached to the vlan ID 500 that you've created above. Ensure that the Enable service tag is unchecked. (Source from oreomambo)

Feel free if you want to use my screenshot wink.gif

PS. I've changed the MTU to 1492 from 1480 (1492 is from the Dlink DIR-615 router), to test utorrent speed. Everything seems to be working very good except utorrent. Utorrent speed seems to be slower and not so stable compared to the DIR-615 as I was able to get full speed. Any RB750G user experiencing the same problem? I'm currenly using UPNP, might try to use manual port forward to see if the speed improve. Hope the sifus here can point me to the right direction. notworthy.gif

Thanks!

my housing area in selayang already completed installation 5 months ago, a huge 40 feet billboard estimated to be worth at least RM50k is also been put up 2-3 months ago saying "UniFi is now here". which is approximately 30 meters away from my house.

When I applied, they said sorry sir, your area is not covered. How this people running the company ? For god sake, its a bloody public listed company with RM billions of turn over and how can such mistake be made ?

bare in mind if you use WEP restrict MAC address or you might end up seeing someone like me poking around your network  brows.gif seriously dont use WEP unless you have some kind of 2nd layer restriction, WEP can be easily cracked under 5 min doh.gif

btw the free installation fee waived is no longer available anymore? do I have to paid upfront or it will deducted to my 1st bill?

how do i restrict the MAC address for the DIR-615 router ?

i use to have WPA/WPA2 enable by default, but it keep dropping my iphone connection non-stop.

PC and notebook non affected, can't figure out any solution other then changing it WEP.

Courtesy from TP-Link representative Oscar from LowYat Plaza, who passed me the new TL-WR841ND Ver:7.2 yesterday for testing! biggrin.gif

I tested this hardware with the beta firmware on my FTTH Huawei HG850a, left it on stress test since last night with uTorrent & IPTV (HD channel 144) continuously for more than 15 hours, no problem at all! rclxms.gif

Document updated here: http://klseet.com/index.php?option=com_con...e&id=7&Itemid=6

TP-Link still need more time to finalise testing & internal QA procedure before releasing the 841 official firmware.

Also started to discuss next higher-end device, most likely TL-WR1043ND, will start after the 841 official, stay-tuned for more update! icon_rolleyes.gif

Hi all,

I just need an honest opinion from u guys. I'm currently using Streamyx 1MB package and my monthly bill is about RM110. I'd say I'm an average downloader (tv series, movies and games) and video streaming usage is quite a lot. I'm currently living in an apartment at Kota Damansara so I know it's already covered. I'm currently looking at the VIP5 package.

My concerns:

1. So if you were me, would u upgrade to Unifi?

2. Another thing is my current devices are the D-link 520B modem and the Linksys WRT54GC router. Do I need to get a new router if I use Unifi?

3. If the usage cap is implemented, how much would the speed be throttled? Is it true about the daily cap?

Thanks! biggrin.gif

You already tried changing both channels (don't leave at auto) and channel width? Note that WEP encryption is very insecure even when used along with MAC filter.

Wow thanks klseet, I will be waiting for that firmware upgrade for 1043ND,
Just bought mine last saturday and its a sturdy piece of engineering. The wireless connection is the most stable I've seen in a while (used to have a belkin and a netgear)

Thought that I could just swap the DIR 615 crap. After replace realized it didn't work Arrghhh! then only surf the web to find solution and found out why it doesn't work vmad.gif (monopolistic tm vmad.gif )

Came upon yours and rizvanpr website which is a godsend ...... suddenly there is light in the dark tunnel!!

Worked late last night and came home to solve my problem with rizvanpr's steps to make DIR 615 into a VLan bridge ... and it worked! rclxm9.gif
Now I have a gigabit lan with Wireless N capable of transfering 300Mbps to my Ipad and Android phone, thumbup.gif

But whenever I see that that ugly white and orange box with the two silly white horns I get damn angry again, I feel like TM is taunting me because my connection from the DIR 615 to the 1043ND is still at 10/100 Mbps.

Now you have brought me the greatest news of all ..... a firmware that will allow me to configure the 1043ND to have VLan so I can have pure gigabit joy rclxm9.gif
Thank you thank you thank you to TP Link ... you rock!

question - would my connection to the IPTV STB be a gigabit connection too ???

About 4.98MBps both ways.

But the funny thing is that when I use speedtest.net to measure it places my IP in Sarawak (spinning pyramid)-- why leh?

Could be a couple of things

USE Method 2 - which is manual, I also assume you have used the correct ports ie Port 1 of GPON to WAN port of DIR 615; Port 3 of DIR 615 to WAN Port of your router

1. you need to make sure you physically switch off your DIR 615 for it to reboot properly (i made this mistake and when I actually pulled out the plug and put it back it worked)

2. You will need to switch on your devices in a certain order. Switch off all your devices, then switch on the Huawei GPON modem first, make sure all the lights are on.
then switch on your DIR 615, make sure the "on" light is green and the internet (globe) light is orange, and port 3 light is green. Then switch on your router.

I think its because the DHCP is still on for the DIR 615 - ie I presume port 1 and 2 can be still used as a normal LAN connection.

The other thing I did (which was not in the guide) was to make sure my router was a different IP address to the DIR 615 eg
DIR 615 is set at 192.168.01 as default so I reconfigured my router to be 192.168.1.x.

I stay on 7th Floor of a condo, and subscribed to VIP5. Manage to get +/- 5mbps on speedtest.net to local servers. Still feel ok using internet, though I am not able to access to gmail (so far i managed to test) using TM's DNS. I changed to google's and it's fine. Since then google's DNS all the way, hence don't know what other sites i can't go. unsure.gif

Thanks for the extra guide.
Yes, the DIR615 G2 LAN 1/2 still can login to WebGUI. 192.168.1.x
I use DIR615 B2(this model not from TM, older n better model i bought for my streamyx) as my custom router.
My B2 always stable when utorrent.

Anyway, I'll try again tonight.
Hope the DIR G2 will also work, i notice rizvanrp guide is for DIR615 G1,
i am just trying my luck.

Later will post my B2 log for sharing.

Thanks ya.

P/S:
My connection

GPON LAN1 <=> G2 WAN PORT
G2 LAN 3 <=> B2 WAN PORT
*G2 WiFi OFF
