I have been a silent reader all this while. I have got lots of tip on breastfeeding here e.g. how to increase milk production and stories of how determine some mummies to breastfeed their babies which makes me wanted to continue bf/ebm my baby. By this month end, it will be 6 months since I started bf my baby . Initially my plan was to stop after 6 months but after reading all the stories make me want to continue. My next target will be 1 year. Hopefully I can make it. Please include me into the breastfeeding list...since Apr 1, 2011.

Here I have a question to ask on behalf of my friend who is currently breastfeeding exclusively since she gave birth about 2.5 months ago. She is now very stress as her baby girl only accept direct latch and does not take any bottle feed. She has tried Breastflow, NUK, Avents nipples. All the latex or silicon nipples just don’t work. Night time she still needs to wake and feed her baby every 1-2 hours. She will be back to work on Sep 26...still got another 2 weeks time. Worst come to worst she may need to travel back home just to feed her baby during working hours. Final solution is that she may need to quit her job.

Some advices I got from other forum is to bottle feed the baby (calmer) when the baby is not so hungry. My friend has tried but not working. The moment she put in anything other than her nipple she will starts crying.

Anyone please help!!!!

1) How long do i need to take milk booster food? (eg fenugreek, horlicks, etc)
2) How long would the super boob size last, even if i lose my weight?
3) Need to burp baby ah? at nite i DL whist lying down... so i nvr burp leh

qarezma, u're getting more n more confident... do help other bf mummies if u know any let's spread the bf virus around

1) i gave up almost instantly coz i was DL (direct latch) so i dunno if got increase or not... but hb told other ppl got

2) i pun tak tau my boobies still look small to me... at least to hb

3) if can burp then burp lo... if DL babies suck little air compare to bottle feed... but they do suck air when cry or eat... if no burp oso ok de...

I'm a mommy with a boy of almost 8months. I faced the exact same situation faced by your friend. I directly BF baby for 2 months and I had to return to work afterwards. So I pumped milk and gave my babysitter EBM everyday but my baby just wouldn't drink. I tried so many nipples also lah! Avent, NUK, Pureen Wide Neck, MAM etc etc. Never worked, cos mistake I did was never introduced bottle to my baby during the initial 2 months!

Then after I changed my babysitter, she tried feeding baby with EBM from a small spoon, then bit by bit baby got used to EBM. Then I bought Pigeon yellow color nipple which is quite soft and my baby liked it. After that I had no problem giving him EBM from bottle. So he still drinks...

Snowee...ask your friend to get someone else to feed her baby. It may help. Babies..they can smell their mommies even if they are in the same house, different room. Try this method..ask your friend to go out of the house...get her hubby or maid or whoever to feed the baby with bottle. If she drinks...good..if she doesn't..keep on trying the same method..for a couple of days. If still doesn't work, try using spoon.

My cousin's daughter didnt' want bottle at all...she would only take from the spoon or else, she'll wait till her mommy gets home. Luckily..then my cousin quit her job..so not so headache.

I guess so the baby is bullying her mum eventhough she is just a 2 months old baby. With spoon quite difficult cos when the baby is hungry she lost patient..will keep on turning her head and . Anyway, will ask her to give it a try. Thanks phytia.

I have a question...i have tried using fenugreek to increase my supply unfortunately it didn't make any different. I bought the fenugreek seeds from the Indian shop (cost only RM3 for 500gm). Took about 2 teaspoon and place it in a tea bag and steep in hot water then drink. Will it be any different if I boil instead of steep in hot water?

At the moment I am just able to produce 3 meals (5-6oz a bottle) a day for my baby. I am trying to increase my supply. I also noticed that if I eat fish paste noodle then I can see the increase in my production but I wouldn't be eating fish paste noodle everyday right Other than fenugreek I may want to try milkmaid tea but it is quite expensive - RM41 for 16 teabags. I have also increasing my pumping session. Whenever I am free at home I will pump or let my bb latch. Hope one day I will be able to fill-up my fridge with all my milk..hahaha

try boiling it..it may make a difference. You can also try fennel seeds, barley, oats. Do you drink lots of water too??

I only take the milkmaid when i'm in the office...just for a month or two..coz it was expensive.

1) it depends if you find your milk has established. for me ..i kept on till about 4-5 months...as i need to make sure that i got enough supply thru pumping.

2) super boov size? my kinda deflated after i bf less. Now i can use back my pre-preg bra...and without bra on..it's kinda ..urrm..horrible (there goes my backless tops )

3) I always made sure i burped xander when he was younger..after 2 months plus..i don't really burped him.

oh and my super boob size gone after i stop pumping. its like.. now u see it, next morning no more... funny la.. suddenly it shrinks. and i think even smaller than pre pregnancy...

I don't burp Samantha after she is 3 months.. she sort of master the way to burp herself..

I think she got excited seeing me too. BF journey is often too hard to be done alone.. Haihs


My friend had to resort to ...... giving milk via syringe. Took her babysitter 2 months to get her used to fake nipples


2) My baby is almost 1 year and am still having super boobs. One complaint - hard to find clothes that fit since I'm naturally already slightly bigger than average.. ahem ahem.. so now I have to buy one size bigger and get it altered.

3) Baby need to be burped especially when they're smaller to prevent milk vomit or them feeling full when they actually need more milk. But I think if at night then nemind cause baby will zzzz anyway.

my baby is now 2.5 months - started work 2 weeks ago and my babysitter had trouble giving him bottles too

but after i bought the pigeon brand or bebe - yellow colour - very soft - S size - it has worked, phew!

and now no problemo even if give other teats coz he is used to both teats & my nipples, yay!

But in the beginning did u go home and feed ur bb or just let him starve and cry till u return from work feed him?

Added on September 16, 2011, 2:22 pmThe journey of my friend from pregnancy till bfing was not easy. She had morning sickness through out her pregnancy, hemmorroid and now bb feeding problem.

I feel myself very lucky. My problem is only getting pregnant cos i hv infertility problem. Through out my pregnant i can eat whatever i want, just a bit uncomfortable when sleeping cos too heavy and constipation has even improved. Feeding bb i hv no problem. .when bfing suddenly if no more milk then my bb will cry complaining i can still ask my hubby to make formula for her then she will continue drinking from bottle. And i don face any problem of MIL or hubby asking me to stop bfing. My hb is very supportive cos he dun trust formula milk. Now make me wanted to extend my bf period to a year.

Today i m going to try bailey water, fenugreek and tomorrow papaya fish soup. Hope it helps!

btw, to boost milk supply, i think the most important is that do not starve yourself or skip meal. and also lots of fluid, like 2L of water at least everyday.. the milk will sure start pilling up in no time

just curious ya, do any mummies here have plug ducts/engorgement all the time? haih. i always get it even though i pump on time...

I agree with EnPoiNte...lots of fluids..and eat properly...it makes a lot of difference. Also..especially the first 6 months whereby your baby is getting all the nutrients from milk only...it's vital to eat properly. I remember..i hardly ate any junk food.

Last time..when I fully bf..i could eat 1 plate of chicken rice + additional small bowl..kekeke..and if i order noodles...i have to order 1.5 portion..hahhahaha. Thank god...my appetite went back to normal when Xander went on solids...Phew! if not..sure i balloned up.

No lah, cannot let baby starve himself and cry until I return from work, so I had no choice but to introduce FM. That also I had so much trouble initially cos baby just refused to drink and I changed so many brands already... Finally settled wif Enfagrow A+ cos I do not have sufficient EBM to fully feed him.

EnPoiNte, well done~! we're all here to support n encourage mummies who wanna bf... bf is sooo worth it rite? baby get fresh milk n it's FOC~! daddies should b proud n support their wifes to bf coz save money ma i dun feel engorged like exploding type unless i din bf for a long hrs but last time when i returned to work i was like u... kakaka... now bf on demand he DL whenever he wants... cry, fussy, comfort, etc

Hi all, thx for all the advise.. After seeing qarezma advice for the latching on method, had tried n at last i had successfully to get my boy to latch on.. I'm direct bf him at daytime but nitetime after the last direct bf at 11pm, will give him fm if he wans milk after that as he sleeps with my mil at nite..few days ago did express bm for nite use but its kinda painful compare to my boy suckle, so i stop express d.. Perhaps i should start back?
As my boy will wake up for milk almost every hr so i'm not sure when should i express my milk for storage..
Being a bf mum reali is busy.. Haha..
My mil n the confinement lady keep on saying my boy waking up coz my milk not enuff to make him full, reali hate it when they said that!! Keep pushing me for full fm as well..IRRITATING!!

congrats! thats a great baby step!!

u are supplementing with FM, but remember baby latching every 2-3 hrs is important to build yr supply.. so even if u FM, try to pump in the time being... initially it will be painful expressing but once u are used to it, it feels nothing in the long run... take it slow to get used to it

aiyaa MILs will be like that.. u need to find best way to handle them.. all the best...!
