I know that my son poo quite often when he was newborn...compared to formula fed babies...this also indicates that the baby is getting sufficient bm.

He prolly picked up bad habits from his formula bottle feeding sad.gif . If still fails then the next best thing is to stop feeding on boobs directly and give him pumped breast milk in bottle instead.

Another thing that I always do with my baby is to put her on diapers only and put her on my chest for skin-to-skin contact. If she's slightly hungry then she'll crawl to the nipples and latch on herself smile.gif It's called 'breast crawl'.

Here's a good video on it :

Dont give up yet biggrin.gif

Hi Nickit,

Welcome to motherhood, how is the feeling?

Im Mon and I have a baby boy and he is now 1 year and 3 month.. I did breastfeeding him for 1 year and 1 month..
Maybe you should stop breastfeeding because it's useless cause he's not getting with you milk. Sadden, breastfeed is the way that you can save your money.. right ?

hey all, i am back with my updates.. pls bear with my if my story is too lengthy

Since sunday I am able to latch my NB pretty well. Baby latches for total 30-40 mins and then cries furiously, only relaxing once fed fm. I had same issue with my first born. The crying pressurized me to give him fm. I tried to be strong but he cried for so long that his face n body went red. What does this mean, my milk not Enuf?

Sometimes when he latches.. he will suckle for 10-20mins and fall asleep. Once i put him on the bed, he will wake up within minutes. I was telling this to Kit earlier, and she suggested lying down position while BF, this method oso he will sleep and wake up within minutes. I notice that giving even 1oz of FM will make him sleep. During times that i have no patience to let him suckle till kingdom comes, i cheated by giving 1oz FM to make him sleep. Again, i wonder, why the difference in BF and FM? my milk not enuf? how can i make my baby sleep well after BF, and not FM?

Currently due to his 4-5 hrs sleeping pattern I'm unable to latch so frequently. Right now my routine is latching 10am-12pm, 1oz FM at 2pm, latching 6-8pm, 1oz FM at 9pm, latching 2am-6am, 1oz FM at 6am.

Also the cheat 1oz FM gives me convenience of making my NB sleep so that i can attend to my toddler, i am spending so much less time with him now that i feel so guilty.. this is another story altogether

I suggested (as advised by Kit) to hubby to buy preloved pump (save cost, since i am gonna sahm anyway), he said better buy new manual pump.. and spoke like a smart alec (saying 'dont believe all the things that u read on blogs and it might be better than electronic pump'), i am like WTF... anyways... i miss him alot.. he was here the whole of last week and now he is back in Klang..

hope u mummies can help my queries... i want to rely on the 1oz FM cheat forever... LOL

and yeah, i have been taking fenugreek water the last 2 days... i can see improvement in the way baby suckles... like more full mouth kut, i can hear swallowing sounds too... then why my BM dont hv the sleeping effect like FM?

Gosh i wish i could come online more often. Most of the time iam on FB thru my mobile app, otherwise surfing the browser is so leceh.

can i have some OT ranting here?

my mom's been making noise abt me taking fruits (direct from fridge) and drinking normal temp water, and not wearing sweater to bake myself in sweat, etc...

is it true that if we dont follow these pantangs we will get body aches later? its not like my mom is without any problems.. even tho she might hv followed them.. lol

qarezma, sorry. I don't think I can help on the direct latching part since I get f9 in that. tongue.gif

Anyway, I would think for now you can try hand press to get the milk out and bottle fed him? seems like he is not fussy when taking fm might because of the milk flow from the bottle teat. why not try to give bm in milk bottle instead?

Also, our initial bm is more on the colostrum side (i think), thats why baby gets hungry easily so would need to fed like 1 hour once. last time my daughter use to cry after like 1.5 hours after her milk... rolleyes.gif

BTW, I don't take fenugreek during the confinement month. to boost up milk supply, i take lots of fluid like hot soups (big bowl ya) and lots of rice (have to stop thinking to slim down - take this off the list first) and lots of warm water (not normal temp water). You'll be able to see the milk increasing from time to time..

As for fruits .. i take those not in the fridge one... keke.. try to take like not so windy/gassy type of fruits for the time being. And for clothing, I don't wear sweater too, and I don't wear socks either since it's so hot. just wear normal loh, sarong and t shirt. hope this helps ya wink.gif

Hi Qarezma,

Breastfed baby tend to feel hunger sooner than formula fed baby and they don't sleep as long as FM baby because breastmilk can be digested in lesser time. I'm no expert but I can share a bit of knowledge based on my experience. Usually baby tend to latch on for a very long time sometime can last more than 1 hour per session especially during the first 2 months. It is so bad during confinement period that my MIL said i don't have enough milk la..etc...said to give water ..FM..etc but I said no... after confinement I eat a lot of fruits/vege drink at least 2 glass of milk daily + obimin, and tons of water... in about 2 weeks I can see huge different...baby latch on in lesser time..10-15 minutes per session and next feeding usually in 2-2.5 hours and sometime 3 hours. The breast milk quality is very important and can only get it by eating nutritious food. You can see the difference when you eat properly that when you pump, even the foremilk look almost the same like foremilk and not so watery.

my ex-manager...she's 50 yrs old...i asked her about confinement..and she told me that she didn't follow at all when she delivered her daughter..many many years ago...and she said she feels fine...surprisingly for a chinese lady from that era..she didn't follow..

in regards to body aches when older..isn't it a sign that we are just getting older..rather than the affects of not going thru a proper confinment practice?

I didn't use any sweater..coz it was damn blardy hot...socks...just at night...drank warm water..which has been cooled...and fruits...hmmm..i ate like normal...straight from the fridge..

i wore socks all the time - didnt dare to take them off coz afraid of 'bentan' - like cold shock attacks and can cause you to bleed like crazy [sometimes can be fatal, oldies say, but im not sure]

i didnt believe until i had it myself! had the cold shock 3 times during my first 2 weeks. wrapped myself in 2 comforters also not enough, husband & mom so panicked, then husband hugged me like crazy - trying to tighten the comforters around me - i was literally shaking! it was so damn cold and it came on so fast & sharp - like out of nowhere! i was OK after 10 minutes. luckily no extraordinary bleeding!

i hated the sweaters too, only wore it when its really cold at night

yes it can attack u after delivery - maybe because our body is weak. also had 1 attack during my first confinement. 3 times during my 2nd.

keep the socks on in the morning, at night n during rain. when its hot like at noon, i also took them off sometimes

and for malays we have to cover our ibu jari kaki during confinement esp at night coz oldies say the devils like them. my mum kena twice and it was scary!! would not wanna scare u all so i wouldnt tell details here unless u want me to??

Hmmm...i didn't follow any confinement requirements both times, except for healthy food. But our doctors also say not to drink cold drinks after C-section at least 1 month due to possible complication of inner wound.

About cols shock or wearing warm clothes - have never heard at all.

you can buy fenugreek seeds (biji halba) from supermarket...at the spice shelf.

Then you boil 1 tsp of the seeds with 1 cup of water. Let it boil for about 1 min or 2...the water will turn into yellow tinge. strain the seeds and drink the water while it's still warm. do this twice a day.

Added on August 13, 2011, 10:27 pmMy wife recently noticed a lump the size of a 5cent coin on the inner side of her left breast, which is painful.
Normal ?
Schedule to go to a doctor after her confinement 2 weeks later.
Anybody experience such lumps before?
