im breastfeeding now..i know its empty when its erm, soft.
i bf one breast per session, and i let him suck until he stops on his own. sleep or pull away. they say baby will do it automatically when they have enough. seems so with me, but not sure whether every babe same or not.

celestra, i think all the same... mine too qarezma, when ur breast feels soft n tender but that doesn't mean ur breast dun have anymore milk... they r nv emptied something i learnt the other day... i read it's abt 15-20mins but if bf on demand, they would recommend u not to look at the clock or time ur bf... just let the baby lead... like my boy, if he doesn't want to bf he'll nv suck n ran away even i try to put my nipple into his mouth... but when he wanna bf he'll come to me naturally

qarezma...what celestra and nicKit say is right...breast will feel soft and tender. As for the time..as you baby is still learning...15-20 mins (or more) would be good enough time for him to get the hind milk...however, like nicKit said..try not to time your bf.
How's bf going on now?
Added on August 18, 2011, 9:07 amoh..yes..even though we say that baby can empty the breast...it doesn't mean it's totally empty...our breast continuously produces milk.

hmmm i did notice the hard and soft feel before and after bf... so that is it i guess.. after BF one boob, i feel kinda like relieved and lightened sometimes.. lol i noticed that given 5-10mins break, the same boob can hv more milk..
Updates on my BF so far going good. But I am sad to say that i sometimes intentionally supplement with FM becos there are time when i need to attend to my no.1 (for sleeping, etc) while no.2 is crying for milk, so i tell mom to give FM. I did buy medela harmony pump last weekend (ok kick me for not being rajin in pumping, but I am getting there... once i pump and keep supply, at least when i am busy my mom can give EBM rite... learning curve here..). Praying to go strong with BF!
i was wondering.. due to demand and supply rule, our breast should know to produce more milk as baby ages rite?

Qarezma....I think u are doing a great job! Even though u said that u cheat (for a good reason)....at least...you r still giving bm. Coz I think in your case...if u fully give attention to new baby, sanju may feel left out.
U can pump after u skip the feed that your mom gave fm. So that body tells that there is demand.
As for supply...usually it will increase naturally when baby grows (coz they demand more and able to suckle better to empty breast); however...some have to work harder to make sure it increases.

thanks darlings Last night was an episode... baby sleeps whole day and stays up at night, but last night was the worst. Got up at 1am and was awake till 6am. He latched, slept on my breast.. and when i put him on bed, he will wake up and cry.. this cycle went on for the whole night.. he might be using me as a pacifier.. how do i handle this?

hehehehe...unfortunately..i can't advise as my son still treats me as a pacifier ...awake or not..and when he's bored I do find it exhausting at times..but i also find it a joy as it's our bonding time.

When it happened to me lsst time, i gave my baby a pacifier.
When i think she's had enough, i would give her the pacifier instead. Sometimes, they are not really sucking for milk, ut sucking for comfort. The sucking motion is different.

qarezma, wait till the teething... phythia, how do u get thru the teething period? i tried to tell my boy it's painful, gently slap his cheek when he bite, pull out the nipple when he bite, give him his teething toy before feed/suck, etc... but he still bites...

Xander bit me occasionally...saw stars! But I scolded him in a firm way and told him if bite no milk. And I didn't feed him till he behaves. usually I know when he's going to bite..coz he'll look at me with a glint in his eye...hehehe...then I'll warn him.
Even till now...he'll like try to bite...I warn him...and the he bites my baju instead.

My baby also still use me as pacifier... The sucking is ofcourse different when he's drinking milk vs just sucking for comfort... I feel more ticklish... Aiya my baby also bite my nipple so hard these days I think cos of teething No teeth come out yet but still hurts so much, he will giv me this michevious look, bite my nipple soooo hard, pull it some more and then let go (As if my nipple is made out of rubber)!!! he he he
