Introducing a new line of mid-class, high-spec Nikon DX-format cameras.
A compact, elegant body equipped with a new CMOS image sensor and a new image-processing engine, EXPEED 2

TOKYO – Nikon Corporation is pleased to announce the release of the Nikon D7000, a model that introduces a new line of mid-class Nikon DX-format digital-SLR cameras. The camera is equipped with a new CMOS image sensor and a new image-processing engine, EXPEED 2, that enable capture of high-definition images exhibiting superior image quality. It also offers a number of advanced high-performance features packed into a compact, elegant body.

The following lens kit will also be released.

D7000 with AF-S DX 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR
The D7000 is a new mid-class DX-format camera with a compact body loaded with a number of advanced functions.
As the D-SLR market expands, D-SLR users are becoming more diverse to include those who demand the ability to capture images with greater definition and image quality, those looking for more advanced shooting functions, and those looking for the ability to record movies with the rich power of expression that is only possible with SLR cameras. The D7000 is a high-quality mid-class D-SLR that responds to user demands with a variety of the latest camera technologies and functions for high-quality, high-definition shooting, all in a durable, high-performance, yet compact body. Among its features are a new DX-format CMOS image sensor, Nikon's latest image-processing engine, EXPEED 2, a new 2,016-pixel metering sensor, a new AF system that utilizes 39 focus points, and the D-Movie function that enables recording of full HD movies.

D7000 primary features

1. A new DX-format CMOS image sensor and new image-processing engine, EXPEED 2, both developed by Nikon enable capture of high-definition images with superior image quality
The D7000 is equipped with a new Nikon DX-format CMOS image sensor and a new image-processing engine, EXPEED 2. The camera offers an effective pixel count of 16.2-million pixels and enables capture of high-definition images exhibiting superior image quality with extremely detailed rendering and rich tones with smooth gradations. With standard sensitivity range of ISO100 - 6400 and additional increases up to Hi 2 (ISO 25600 equivalent), the camera offers improved capability with shooting under dim lighting, such as in the evening or indoors, and also expands possibilities for expression with rapidly moving subjects.

EXPEED 2 is Nikon's latest image-processing engine developed with the ideas, know-how and technologies regarding digital images that Nikon has cultivated over the years. EXPEED 2 enables faster image processing, a high level of noise reduction, better color reproduction characteristics, and reduced power consumption.

2. A compact, elegant body that offers both authenticity and flexibility
A magnesium alloy has been adopted for the top and rear covers for increased durability in a size equivalent to that of the D90. All joints on the camera body have also been sealed to ensure a greater level of water and dust resistance.

3. A new 2,016-pixel RGB metering sensor
With 2,016 pixels, the new metering sensor developed for the D7000 offers twice the metering pixels as our previous high-end metering sensor. Prior to shooting, the 2,016-pixel RGB sensor acquires accurate information regarding the scene. That information is then reflected in autofocusing, automatic exposure, i-TTL balanced fill-flash, and auto white balance control for extremely faithful images.

4. A new 39-point AF system
An AF sensor module with 39 effective focus points

Adoption of the new Multi-CAM4800DX autofocus sensor module enables certain acquisition and tracking of the intended subject with 39 focus points.
Nine cross-type sensors at the most frequently used center of the frame allow for certain acquisition of the intended subject.
In addition, the number of active focus points can also be limited to 11.
Superior subject acquisition and tracking performance
Depending upon the scene or subject, the AF-area mode can be selected from Single-point AF, Dynamic-area AF, 3D-tracking and Auto-area AF. Wide focus areas containing a large number of focus points work together to accurately acquire and track the subject

5. D-Movie for recording and editing of full HD movies
The D7000 is equipped with the D-Movie function that enables recording of high-definition movies (1920 × 1080p, 24 fps) exhibiting superior video quality. Autofocusing during movie recording is possible using contrast-detect AF. When the focus mode is set to Full time-servo AF (AF-F) and the AF-area mode to Subject-tracking AF, the camera automatically maintains focus on a subject moving throughout the frame in three dimensions. The D7000 also offers in-camera movie editing functions that allow users to save a single frame as a still JPEG image or delete unnecessary portions from the beginning or end of movie files.
Recording of stereo sound via an external microphone is also supported.

Other functions and features new to the D7000

A glass pentaprism for viewfinder frame coverage of approximately 100% and magnification of approximately 0.94×
High-speed continuous shooting of up to 100 shots at approximately 6 fps, and a very precise and durable shutter unit that has passed testing for 150,000 cycles
New U1 and U2 settings on the mode dial allow users to assign frequently used settings, including ISO sensitivity and exposure compensation, to these positions for instant recall of the registered settings by simply rotating the mode dial
Live view function that can be smoothly enabled with the dedicated live view switch
Double SD memory card slot that enable use of two SD memory cards (SDHC, SDXC also supported)
The Rechargeable Li-ion Battery EN-EL15, which enables capture about 1,050 shots when fully charged
Support for the new Multi-Power Battery Pack MB-D11 (sold separately), which holds not only Rechargeable Li-ion Batteries EN-EL15, but also AA batteries
Nikon's image browsing and editing software, ViewNX 2, supplied with purchase

I'm more excited about magnesium alloy and pentaprism viewfinder. 39 focus points-overkill. Although do note that battery grip does not increase the frame per second.

I heard it will be launched in October. let's wait~

btw, sb700 is also launched.
http://www.nikon.com/about/news/2010/0915_sb-700_04.htm

it said
"Until the SB-700, the SB-900 has been the only Speedlight equipped with a Master function*. However, a condensed form of this function has been built into the SB-700, which is also equipped with accessories such as a bounce card and a diffusion dome. "

but in the 3rd function, it said
"3. Quick wireless control mode enables simple control of flash output for two remote flash groups

This is a new feature that allows the Master flash (SB-700) to control flash output levels for flash units assigned to two remote groups, making multiple flash photography setup simple."

Maybe my english is not that good, does this means SB-700 has master commander or no?

d7000 is upgrade for d90? not d5000? magnesium body looks cool though.

but i wonder how's the ISO performance. previously nikon always talks about this. can't seem to find it in the preview.

From what i understand the SB700 has a "condensed" Master mode. means less comprehensive(not as good) as the SB900. i.e. it's able to control up to 2remote groups vs the 3 groups of the SB900. and i don't think the SB700 comes with the ability to select channels(1-4) like the SB900. Which means if you have other photographers around the area using wireless flash triggers on the same channel as ur SB700, ur remote flashes will missfire. (unlike the SB900 where u can change to a different channel and avoid this from happening)

Correct me if i'm wrong. this is just my understanding of it.
Hope this helps.

can be higher than 6400, expandable to 25600. but if im not mistaken above 6400 are fake ISO, processed by the processor. Not sure about this, but in D90, ISO 3200 above are fake ISO.

The price is almost same like D90 when just came out.. I guess they will only sell the body?

I'm a D90 user.. for me i rather wait for D300 new replacement than this.. for me this D7000 only ISO improvement.. i don't need that high MP, HD video and 2 SD slots.. ohya the focus point is useless for me too.. i only use single focus.. heh.. this is me

All in all, I feel the price bracket should be above D90 and under D300. Are they coming up with D90 replacement model? I don't think so, as D7000 already fill up the gap between D90 and D300; and D5000 before that, the only logical move would be to release higher end model like D400, follow by D4 drool.gif
Anyway, just speculations: Chase Jarvis

After conversion, close to RM4000... With 18-105mm, RM4500? Whoa, that's not exactly affordable ain't it?

Of course it WILL NOT be cheap.
You pay peanuts, you get monkeys. My guess will be body for RM 4.5k at least to justify the specs and the magnesium alloy body.

Couldn't agree more. Would love to hold the camera just to get a feel though. And check out the viewfinder. Has anybody already set aside budget for this? Or do I hear D400? rclxm9.gif

Apparently I feel pity to those keep hoping this to be cheap. Remember, cheap thing no good, good thing no cheap !!

I will and might get to hold it once available. Usually my supplier will tease me by calling me go to his shop and hold hold to poison me sweat.gif

MSRP USD 1199 is for body only, which is a little less than MYR 4k.

Kit set is announced at MSRP USD1499, about MYR 4.8k.

I cant decide for now since there is no noise performance review yet.

One thing i like is the compatibility to meter with non-CPU lenses biggrin.gif

some is inner change, some is external change
certain change different from d90 a lot, certain does not matters much...
it all depends what u want from the camera, and how much does it matters...

e.g. some ppl don like too many focus point (they want simple point, they easily choose the point themselves), so the matter of 11focus points & 39focus points makes no difference...
D7000 can go with Ai lenses, makes it more legacy-compatible than D90 (if u already hav or u will get old lens)
jz see from dpreview, check out those highlights...then see if those extras really matters for u....

btw...CMOS sensor is newer (although size same and cramp in more pixel), new processor (Expeed 2)
that provides stronger heart than d90

yet...the most matters is the user, not the tool thumbup.gif

having more focus points is always the better option as you can change the settings to maybe 9 or 11 focus points if you want.

This thing is between D90 and D300s and with the recent price drop of D300s to RM4350, i guess D7000 will be priced around 3.4k-3.7k body only.

if print, normally, my customer (malay bridal) they dont care much about noise. all the want is good angle, nice effect at cheap price. i even once pump up 1000D up to 1600 and they never complaint about noise yet they satisfied with the end result.

btw, we always print for small small size only... if we print banner size, then die lo noise everywhere. same like when we post up here on internet. at FB u see it silky smooth but when see it at flickr, aiyoh all cacat came out ed haha

D90 is still a great camera. D700 replacement will surely cost you 1 kidney, maybe 2 !

For me, the great part about the D7000 is that:
1. it meters older lenses (only found in D200, D300 and up) non cpu lenses
2. more focus point (though overkill in almost all shooting),
3. and greater speed..
4. Better metering systems.. 2k pixel metering

It will trump the D300s since has about the same features, and lower price..

Though, how many of us will buy the older lenses since its quite hard to find them here in M'sia

and the more focus point and faster speed is good in sports, but.. That is only important when shooting sports and animals.. As for the rest, patience pays out =)

High noise? We have flash guns and strobes for that =)

GBP1099.99 * 4.8 = rm5279.95... its definitely more expensive than a D300s...lol

Remember there is a 17.5% tax in the UK, so the price without tax is £935, which is around RM4500.

Spec comparison,

D300s wins in terms of 51 AF point and 7fps(can go up to 8fps on battery grip) as i noticed. The rest D7000 beats it all.

more iso performance samples from D7000.

for sports & extremes ; D300s (higher frame rate, more robust body, 51AF points)

for normal use like portraits and events; D7000 (better ISO quality and ISO ratings, smaller, cheaper, 39AF points is more than enough, lighter)

but it remains to be seen how close the D7000 comes to beating the D300s. the D7000 (in my opinion) has surpassed the 7D in all areas except video, but the 7D is the D300s's direct competition. So the D400 should beat the crap out of 7D biggrin.gif

it would depend on what type of photography you are into, for portraits and events then it would be advisable to get the D7000. it also depends on your budget. if you can afford the D300s then get it cos it's still a wonderful camera. or you can just go with the D7000 and get a nice lens to go with ! tongue.gif

for portraits, you don't really need a fast camera, usually one shot after another would be fine, bursts aren't really necessary, but depending on your style of portraits (studio, destination, etc.). for events, YES you do need a fast camera. my D60 was too slow in all aspects, AF, frame rate. if you need a better grip, the D300s would be ideal. if you don't mind a smaller size body, the D7000 or D90 would suit you fine smile.gif

I think D3100 is USD 7000 = RM 2100, so D7000 USD 1200 is equal to RM3600 in Malaysia.

D300s VS 7D

D7000 VS 60D

D700 VS 5DmkII (though it would only be in terms of still images)

seriously not fair.

D7000 is top amateur body while 60D is semi pro body. 550D is top amateur body for canon line up.
D300s is semi pro body. so it shud be rival with 60D
7D is kinda at his own league. fullframe spec but crop sensor. sweat.gif

NOT fair??? are u sure??

I think you should take a very very close look at the 60D's specs if you haven't.

Nikon D7000 VS Canon 60D
1. The nikon has partial weather sealing and a partial Magnesium alloy body which the canon DOES NOT have.
2. 39 point VS 9 point on the canon
3. DUAL SD slots vs only one on the canon.
4. Extended ISO of 25600 vs 12800 on the canon.

Conclusion :

A. The D7000 can be considered to be a top amateur body or somewhere between top amateur & semipro.

B. The new 60D is the replacement model of the semipro 50D but the new 60D it is in a completely different class (not semipro class anymore).

C. D300s is a semipro body. Correct. 60D is a semipro body? WRONG.

D. 7D is a semipro body.. and in numerous reviews it is compared against the older 50D and D300s.

E. 7D is in the league of semipro crop sensor bodies as do the D300s. Their fullframe semipro counterparts would be the 5DmkII and D700.

u make me even more pening~!! sweat.gif

according to u, D7000 is top amateur body.
then mention 60D not semi pro class anymore.

then ur above point u list is both body from different world? top amateur body VS top semi pro body? isnt dat is not fair??

if u want to said review by others, ive seen D90 had been compared with 5dmk2 for term of low ISO. is D90 rival to 5dmk2? why there review between both of them?

my point is, review sux~! always bullshtting people. i care or read the spec on paper it got mag body, carbon fiber ke, can go to moon or even can snap in the blackhole. all i care is the quality of end result.

btw, the comparison ive made actually depends on price. didnt track price so might have mistake

it means...

5d2 vs d700 = 5d2 ftw
7d vs d7k = 7d ftw
60d vs d7k = d7k ftw

the d7k will price very closely with the 7d I presume and stated @ shashiki around rm4k...and canon will attack by lowering the current 7d 4.5k price even more...damn you canon my 7d drop so fast bought it like shit expensive vmad.gif vmad.gif vmad.gif

seriously the 60d is an epic fail by canon when compared to the d7k...as canon have no way to go cause if give magnesium body it will actually become 7dm2 so they give it a stupid plastic body while solid its still like going backwards cause the model it replace the 50d have metal body...

it with kit lens while 60d body only right? i dont know 60d price. but i tried once. not bad what? quite impress me. for me, i dont mind whatever it was built with what important is the outcome it produce.

kinda prefer it as feels light~! haha last time i hold both my D90 + 1750 VC + SB600 and 5dmk2 + 2485 + 580 ex2 for my job. feels like 5mk2 lighter then my D90 but still enuff grip for my palm. just my D90 without BG, damn sux handling hahaha

unless the d7k is price much cheaper which I doubt...I say the 7d is a better buy...but I know lot off ppl love nikon and I have no problem with that...the d300s also around rm4k seem like kena ownez by the younger d7k in some areas...I'm just saying for me the d7k for rm4k is just 2 expensive as the 7d is drop so much already...but hey in the end you can buy whatever you want...

Your that post, and the end there already stated clearly what it should compete with.

And still no official price even from Nikon Malaysia. It's still too early to judge anything.

We can somewhat guess the price difference using reference of USD:

D7000 http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/7350...mera_Body_.html USD1199.95

7D http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/6469...LR_Digital.html USD 1599.00 after discount

Roughly 400USD difference at launch price.
Considering the huge gap, obviously the cameras are targeting different range of customers.
So there's no point comparing them.

Edit:

Considering the price difference, and some give and take in the specs, I think d7000 is making quite an impression.
Especially the CF card slot of 7D, quite a turn-off IMO.

http://www.gorephoto.com/blog/2010/equipme...per-and-better/

In terms of price, D7000 and 60D would make better comparisons. However the winner is quite clear:

lol weird that if there is a product that combine the technology of canon and nikon... I would definitely buy the stuff right away... sadly there isn't ...

I sure hope nikon and canon would go along [woah... sparking a war] ...

interesting product of both of the brand... but then again both lacks in one and another.

since many here r nikon lover I can understand why the hope that those high iso image are true...but its not the truth...he did say "they are so good that I even question the authenticity of those images"...some of those high iso image even win d3s which because its 12mp handle high iso relatively well...

Anyway here's a REAL mini review...

http://robertbromfield.com/nikon-d7000-rev...nd-impressions/

don't view unless you want 2 pixel peep! and you won't be happy with the result... rclxs0.gif

Pros

    * The D7000 does deliver in a being a better auto focus performer than the D90.
    * The D7000 has a much needed contrast boost in the images.
    * The high ISO performance is better than the D90 but less than the D700, a good compromise.
    * Increased dynamic range versus other Nikon DX cameras.
    * Definitely better auto exposure metering compared to the D90.

Cons

    * The sharpness of images are definitely an issue.
    * Mushy shutter release button.
    * Peripheral auto focus points that are not the most sensitive in low light situations.
hmmm....according to him "The sharpness of images are definitely an issue." perhaps he pixel peep lol...

result does not look good for the d7k...so now last thing is wait for the official RM price...

he he.. someone working so hard to promote 7D here..

keep it up bro... but no offence, one thing i don't understand, since you are so proud with the 'really' good Canon yours, why does it make a big deal when other manufacturer produce another good camera ?

what ever it is , D7k will certainly be another top selling camera from Nikon... and 7D will be a just another good camera of the past( so were d300 and d300s) ... and it's price will sure drop more in the future

ps : i'm sure i'm not the only one who read Nikon rumors almost everyday... there are review and sample image which are stunning ...

arghhh ... this waiting game is killing me ... any news on local distributor / seller who able to get the d7k yet... ??

I personally don't think that review is good enough.

Please read the following, I +1 to it. smile.gif

coldplug October 15, 2010 at 4:06 PM
It is pretty normal that pixel sharpness i way beyond D700 and also little beyond D90. It is due to optical laws; D7000 has a half smaller sensor than D700 and on the same time much more pixels on it, so pixels are much much smaller. Also, antialiasing filter is probably bit stronger that will give little bit additional softening.
The real question is; how sharpness compares to D700 when you print images from both camera, the same size! This is only test that can give an answer what camera is sharper. You can do simulation of that test, by comparing images side-by-side on your screen, but first, downsize both them to say, 3000px wide. Then compare the sharpness, not while looking at 100% view from full sized images.

Miguel October 15, 2010 at 7:46 PM
I was wondering whether the lack of comparable sharpness is the result of the image being shot as JPEG on camera. From my experience and from all dpreview takes on all nikon cameras of the past 2 years (at least), the in-camera image processing creates images on the soft side. This is very easily seen if you shoot a RAW and visualize the embedded JPEG and the RAW conversion in viewNX. Of course, you’re bumping the sharpness of the picture control, but then again it is not going to sharpen something that is fuzzy enough.

Mounting it on a tripod and shooting at F8 =/= guaranteed sharp.
What about wind and moving subject?

I'm no Nikon fanboy, but the way the he reviewed D7000 is obviously via comparison with his more superior and expensive D700.
In the end he even put up his favorite night city skyline picture to undermine d7000, instead he could have posted a similar picture of this house taken at high ISO to make a stronger point.

Just my 2cents.

with Ais lens compatible and alloy body, dun mention about the ISO performance...

and ..... possible price of RM4000

i do not see the reason why nikon user who want an upgrade do not fancy this body...

I, myself would definitely want this babe if financially allow.

clearly ppl here have no idea what they are talking about....

anyway, sharpness is a very personally thing... i worry less on sharpness...
composition is what i will be worrying.

overall Nikon D7000 is a good cam but not the best, in the end..picture speak more than words.

Buy it if you want it.... that all

Happy shooting

it does seem like the issue with the D7000 made your ego jump off everywhere. "wakakaka isn't insulting", but saying that after "D7k got pixel issues" pretty much is. if you didn't have any problem with the issue, you wouldn't have made such comment. anyways, have fun with your 7D, awesome camera with the 2 factory machines in there smile.gif

Perhaps it means Malaysia warranty = body, int. warranty = lens? hmm.gif

BTW the price is just as I expected, cheaper than D300s but more expensive than D90.

Consider this a warning. Continue and you can pack your bags for a holiday.

it does seem like the issue with the D7000 made your ego jump off everywhere. "wakakaka isn't insulting", but saying that after "D7k got pixel issues" pretty much is. if you didn't have any problem with the issue, you wouldn't have made such comment. anyways, have fun with your 7D, awesome camera with the 2 factory machines in there  smile.gif
*
hmmmm you need to read carefully d7k got pixel issue is stated by some1 else...I just ask only with a question mark??? you got to look properly...

One more nonsense post from you and i will treat you well to a nice holiday spa

unless you consider laughing it off as insulating remark which it is absolutely not... as I have insulted nobody your warning is gag order lol...why would you kindly point me to my so called "insulating remark" and I'll happily stop...

i am not trying to pick anyone side here...

but if lets focus on D7k in a more reasonable way,

Mr. kaigraphy, thanks for your highlight and advice on the pixel "problem" on D7k. I think many reader here noted.

no point keep stressing the point here, it might make you sound like you are trying to "discriminate" this camera.

no point getting "holiday" for something you will not interested. You are not the one who will buy this camera..

I will...

D7k with kit lens RM4999 http://yamiya.com.my/store/product.php?pro...&cat=403&page=1

The price looks a bit crazy, i think this is the price of US stock being brought into Malaysia for sale. Retail in US is RM1499 = Rm4661. But the site list it as much as 5399. If this is true.. I'm getting 60D with 18-135mm at RM3800+

D7000 looks a bit smaller then D90 to me on its horizontal length, but is it really smaller in the specs (dimension)?

This is what I got from Nikon's website:

D90: 132 x 103 x 77 mm
D7000: 132 × 105 × 77 mm

Apparently the difference in height is only 2mm and everything else is similar..but the d90 does look significantly bigger in the 1st pic.

The price actually just speculation price la.
D300s damn solid but you will miss out a few things like full hd, new sensor and better noise control.

The speculated price at the moment shows the Body Only package differs by about RM1000 with the Kit Package. Assuming if i take the Body Only package, is there any substitute lens that can be better than the kit lens, at roughly about the same RM1000+- difference? Or the 18-105 is indeed worth the extra 1k?

if you want to compare apple to apple, i think none... 18-105 VR is a great lens in his own categories.

from my personal experience, i still prefer the old 18-135 in IQ (image Quality) but it is lack of VR.

if you don't mind about the range, i would take 18-55mm VR, i cheap and it is great in IQ.

personally, i use a real ultra wide angle and pair up with a 50mm 1.8 and that what i need for most of the time.

conclusion, to me 18-105 VR do not worth extra 1k. Get the body and pay more for better lens or at least a lens that suit your purpose (micro lens, tele lens, wide angle lens...etc)

in the end, you are the 1 who shoot...

PS: if for stater and you do not have any lens to start with, please get this kit lens... they call kits lens for a reason.

Well, at the moment, i do have a 500D with the Tammy 1750 NonVC and i do love it. Tested my cousin's D90 with 18-105 and i found it to be quite good. Especially love the range offered. Am trying to make sure the extra 1k here is worthy or not. I mean, i do love the 18-105 as a start (i never used any Nikon before) but just making sure at around the same range, whether there is any other lens that is about the same price and more worthy. Well, at least i am trying to see whether i would skip the 18-105 for the Tammy 1750 again cause it has been serving me quite well on a Canon. The problem with the Tammy for me is that i at times, need to constantly switch to a tele and this is where the 18-105 is very attractive.

I thought of getting the D7k body only and pair with the Tammy 17-50mm VC version. I drop the extra range of 18-105 as I already hav a zoom lens, no point getting it, and the F2.8 of tammy performs much better at low light =)

QUOTE(Kent3888 @ Oct 22 2010, 03:02 PM)
I thought of getting the D7k body only and pair with the Tammy 17-50mm VC version. I drop the extra range of 18-105 as I already hav a zoom lens, no point getting it, and the F2.8 of tammy performs much better at low light =)

D7k with 17-50mm 2.8 VC... sound sweet enough for most daily shoot.

i seldom need anything beyond 50mm and most of my picture was using my 10-20mm sigma, i shoot landscape and close-up landscape most of my time.

so, it really depend how you judge it... some enjoy 18-200mm or 18-270mm, some shoot with just a 18-55mm kits lens and get great result.

if your 17-55mm + tele lens setup serve you well in previous body why not get the same setup on your new cam.

as for Mr. akachester,

i think you are jumping from C to N... so, you can just start with the kits lens or without. Either way, you need to buy new lens for your Nikon body... as all you canon lens is useless to nikon body... tongue.gif

LOL. In the process of planning everything at the moment. Aint ditching my Canon but wanted to try out the Nikon after i fell in love with it when playing with the D90. Wanted to get the D90 but after searching, D7000 is coming out and much more tempting tongue.gif Probably will start off with the 18-105mm first. smile.gif Just wondering whether i would miss the f/2.8 or not tongue.gif

I went Lowyat and Times Square and asked for it, they said it's not launched yet @@..

How much it would roughly be costing? Is it a replacement for D90?

Not yet launch here...perhaps end of November.

It's not a replacement model for D90. Estimated price with kit lens RM5000. This was what the retailer told me. Correct me if I'm wrong.

5k is super damn expensive, even with kit lens... i think the retailer just want to coup extra profit

if it's really at that price.. i can afford to wait ... i think many will hold the purchase until the price is more reasonable..

The price is not damn expensive, it's noise control is even better than D300s, magnesium alloy body, 39 AF points etc etc and it's definitely a distance better than D90. D90 when newly launched was 4388 if not mistaken, so D7000 is just RM700 more expensive, I don't see why it's not reasonable...

No rush bro. Actually D90 is ok eady wink.gif

I want to let it go near the beginning for the reason that I'm afraid the price will drop further when D7000 officially launch in the market.

emailed Nikon Malaysia a few days ago and this is what they replied :

"Thank you for your enquiry. The recommended selling price and stock availability for D7000 model will only be announced in beginning November 2010 onwards and also in Nikon, Malaysia website at www.nikon.com.my . Thank you for your patience."

And I've also been seeing things like Nikon halting their D7000 shipping to fix the pixel issues that has been brought up earlier, but that was told by a worker in the US, and I don't trust that news much.

I expect the D7000 (body only) to have a price of RM4,000 or around there when released in Malaysia, and will drop at the turn of the year. Anybody know how much the D90 was selling for when it first came out? blink.gif

It's a RSP. They sure won't tell the real street price. They probably won't even know the street price la. It's not even launched yet doh.gif
Street price should be around RM4.4k one. Like D90 last time.

Let say canon s95, i found at SG cheaper price is S$589 (Rm1.4k++) come with camera pouch, 8gb memory and canon product training. But in M'sia, saw few bought at Rm1300 with same specs, only dont have canon product training i think , even buy at SG can claim back 5.5% GST, still expensive compare with M'sia.

If not wrong, only purchase online and ship to M'sia need to pay the VAT. If u buy at London local shop, no need to pay VAT. This what i experience when i purchase soccer jersey online (with VAT) and purchase on London local shop (no VAT). Correct me if im wrong, thanks.

Compare to Canon street price which around RM2900~RM3200, it still a little competitive as Canon 60D price can get until RM2850~RM2900.

From what I test over the KLPF in Canon 60D and Nikon D7000 ...

Canon 60 Pros over Nikon D7000-
>Tilt Screen
>Manual Audio Control for better quality
>Direct custom control on Movie Mode
>Creative Filter on-board process through RAW files
>Price is RM600~RM1000 cheaper than D7000

Onpar -
>Weight, seriously I felt both have the similar weight even D7000 is magnesium alloy :/
>Megapixel, well not much difference for 16 and 18 mp
>Fps, well IMO 5 and 6fps not much difference as well
>IQ is similar just in high ISO Nikon is quite better
>Both shutters perform silently but Nikon can make it silent shutter during Burst mode where else Canon 60D already go out loud

Nikon D7000 over Canon 60D
> Magnesium Alloy = Tough Body
> Direct access movie record which is a huge plus over the frustrating movie mode dial on Canon 550D and 60D
> Better top LCD display over 60D (Even D90 is better than it)
> Screw Drive Lens alternative
> Dual SD Cards :]
> Better Autofocus
> Brighter + Bigger Viewfinder

You guys new in UK? All their listed prices includes VAT already.. Well, if you buy in Malaysia, you could possibly get ur warranty converted to a traveller's warranty, but only lasts for 1 year.. u buy in Malaysia, local warranty is at least 2 years.... My thinking is that, *touchwood* my camera if broken, most likely to be on 2nd year more than 1st year... So in 2 years, I would at least go back to Malaysia once or twice anyways....

Hey..... I got the same thing in my mind too!!! It's not even close to sharp(very noisy) at iso200 eh after zoom in 100% using the 28-300 lens at 38mm (I only tried the one wit this lens, not the 18-105)
I wonder it's any settings related to this or wat the hell is goin on with this D7000?? but at iso 800, it's better than D90. Anybody can clarify my doubt??

Oh well, actually I'm one of the guy who worked on KLPF for nikon booth for 3 days. One of the D7000 actually got some problem in burst mode which caused the camera jammed.

It's not only magnesium alloy, is magnesium alloy + plastic, therefore, D7000 is a little bit lighter compare to D90. Hope I can clear your doubt

Hope the newer batch of D7000 doesn't have any problem with pixel issues. Chase even said he got no problem with his D7000 unit ( sharp and no pixel issue). He owned 2 units tho.

Well, everyone is chasing for the latest technology but the most important is to figure out what is more suitable for own shooting needs.

Truthfully, I think D300s is the best I have came across that I can shoot instantaneously if I notice interesting subject and don't need to be bothered about the duration it takes to lock focus.

Went to KLPF to clasp the D7000, in term of design wise almost similar to D90 except for the material and better rubber grip. D300s body is preferable smile.gif

When it comes to AF system and focus points, the Nikon D300s has a superior pro-level AF sensor with 51 focus points and 15 cross-type sensors while D7000 has 39 focus points and 9 cross-type sensors.

In addition, D300s is fully covered while D7000 only having top and back covers made of magnesium alloy.

Just my point of view. Different people may have different idea & preference smile.gif

If you get a D300s, and then a replacement comes out, suddenly your D300s becomes useless? Whats with the gear lust? Just get a camera you want now, and use it.

Really retarded for Kent3888. What's the point keep chasing new gears while your photos are piece of junk ?
Seriously all your photos are PnS. Polish your skill instead of being a gear head. I can see others using D40 but shooting nicer than your previous D5000.

And I used to shoot pre-wedding with D5000 too.

Skill matters more than gears !

Easy say all people have their own ways. Keep minding your own business. Those pictures have his own signature. So... lets get back to d7000 shall we?

I never say I'm pro. Just your words make me laugh as you're saying new technology and stuff. That's too much to worry about. How long will you use your own camera ? 2 years ? That's the life cycle of the camera for Nikon. By the time, it's already paid off as most client's job already cover that.

Between D7000 and D300s easy. You need FULL HD video ? You need higher MP ( Oh noob people will take MP as a big factor yo. ), or you need more focus point ? More accurate and faster metering ? Tell me and I can point you which to get.

Cheers.

Not worth the upgrade unless you're looking for full HD and better noise control.
And of course better body and higher MP, higher FPS.
Would suggest to take up FF instead of D7000 wink.gif

Quite a massive amount to invest from DX to FF, unless you have huge budget.

The best way if you know you're going FF, slowly ditch DX lenses.
That's what I do basically. And my drybox and left 1 old 18-70 which I used for group photo purpose only.

Portrait even D40/5000/3100 can shoot.

Event, I'd go for better fps. And CF card in writing speed, just in case your buffer get full up quickly.
Not to forget, focusing and metering for D300s if not mistaken is the same as of D700.

And D300s is actually semi pro level. D7000 isn't. It below D300s. Of course some will say the spec is better. Full HD and etc. By the end of the day, the question is will you be using all that ? smile.gif

If i'm you, I'd go for D300s. Personally play with it and feel it's way better than D90. I haven't touch D7000 yet. can't comment on that. Probably next week I can talk about that. smile.gif

Actually is my friend D300s and the wife wanted to upgrade the D90 to D7000. So guess I will be lucky to have D300s, D7000 and D90 side by side ? tongue.gif

Too bad don't have same lenses to try out. 17-55 on 300s ? then D7000 and D90 with 35mm and 50mmG ? laugh.gif

I know D7000 has higher pixel density hence will create higher noise compared to that of D300s. Dat's y I am unsure with the performance of D7000 in noise control, I personally tried it but felt it's not as good as I though in terms of noise control, I have high hope because I saw review of D3100 shows very good noise control. My question is if D7k would serve me well for another 2 more years, I'm more than happy for it. It's like ppl bought D90 back in 2008, would never regret for it. Juz dunno how well Nikon done their job for D7k this time in terms of new sensor technology.

Definitely will provided you not itchy to go FF.
And to be honest, I'm disappointed with D7000 noise control Muddy even at ISO 3200. Not as reported by Chase Jarvis whereby usable.

And to me the new sensor on lower end body is more to white rat. Why they didn't launch directly on FF but on lower end body first ? Think about this and you should be understand my thought regarding white rate smile.gif

D7000 has the ability to shoot at high ISO range with undersized noise. The matter is do you really need to shove it up to that level? If yes, then go for it with no doubt wink.gif

Had a touch of D7000 today, felt like D90 kind of build quality great enough but not close to D300s for both weight and sturdiness.

Button layout and functions similar to D300s, got access to different mode through turn of dial along with some other settings. Well it's Nikon after all, dun differ much on the dual dial and shutter button.

Auto focus not bad, fast enough but definitely wont be blazing SPEED like on FX with AFS lens ..XD

Image quality can't really be sure since the demo unit got plastic piece on the LCD cover as well T_T.

Probably go molest it again 2mr to be sure of the some other detail.

I hate to play with the demo units in BTS. it's so oily and kinda dirty. Imagine lots of germs and you played with it. Argghh. My point of view tho. Don't take it seriously. Might go over and play with D7k too.

You already mentioned "SLT" A55 in your post right?
Yeah lah. A55 is not a Digital SLR. It's a SLT (Single Lens Translucent) camera, that's why it's using LCD for viewfinder instead of mirror/pentaprism used for SLR/DSLR laugh.gif

Yeah.... no mirror shutter and that's how SLT can achieve 10 frames/sec!! but quality wise, I really doubt it, haha....

I think the price of the D7000 is affected by Canon's 60D. RRP of the 60D body is only RM3,338. The closest expected price of the D7000 body is? RM3.5k? hmm.gif

It's targeted at those normal consumer like girls la, not prosumer or photographers. How many pros out there would choose sony over the other big 2? rolleyes.gif

Because size and weight of SLR cameras has always been an issue for girls, so sony decided to make it light and small instead of big, heavy and bulky. Meanwhile, they also throw in some new stuffs like translucent mirror ma, so those girls show off to their pns user friends, and can camwhore silently, no mirror flipping loud sounds. brows.gif

Try and hold the 2 SLT yourself, the grip doesn't fit a guy's hand one la. wink.gif

I read around, SLT has shutter noise too as there is slight movement of the mirror to allow light through.

yes it has shutter noise but the mirror doesn't move at all. light can pass through the mirror directly to the sensor.
