Same here. My wi-fi is never off. biggrin.gif

Can survive with Wi-Fi alone without data plan? Will the phone feel handicapped if Wi-Fi is off? Thinking whether or not to get a data plan if I were to get an Android. Feels kind of stupid to pay for yet another data plan when I already have an unlimited Maxis data-only sim card.

If you have unlimited data simcard, then get a mifi router and use it.

A mifi router - RM500? (hypothetical number, but checking forums its about this price, E585 can be had for RM470)

Data connection - RM58 for 500mb (this is the cheapest)

In 9 months you already recoup back the cost of the modem, and I'm being conservative.

I make do with ad-hoc data and i don't really use much mobile data. Usually in wifi connected area so I don't feel handicapped.

I mean the E585 is around 470. The one with digi is 360 i think, but it's an older model.
The E585 is an upgrade with some added features that make it more usable.

Anyway, I'm giving him some conservative estimates. Shopping around will get him a better deal. lol
And I do agree that having to pay an additional price for a data connection while having the legacy unlimited plan doesn't really make sense.

It might be a good idea considering how little battery juice the phone will consume on Wi-Fi than on 3G - (http://www.sapiensbryan.com/index.php/samsung-galaxy-s-battery-test/). I'm afraid it'd be too troublesome to bring an extra device with me all the time. Do you have any experience with them?

DiGi's weekly data is at RM15, 250mb per week, roughly RM60 for 1GB per month. Pretty okay comparing to other telco's rate, but coverage is poor. Only major cities is covered by 3G, others only EDGE.

I'm thinking of getting a dual sim adapter, if it works. But I can only activate one line at a time, meaning if I'm using data no calls or text can come in, so active syncing is not possible. Anyone using dual sim adapter on SGS or any other Android?

Shit I regret so much on my GadgetShieldz purchase. I'd suggest you guys not to be fooled by the low price.

1) Not big enough to cover the screen/back cover fully.
2) Smudges easily seen after light usage.
3) Screen looks wavy/wrinkly after applying the shield.
4) The shield is draggy and it makes swyping unfavorable.
5) Last but not least, the screen protector has SCRATCHES after two week of light usage... wtf?

Therefore I my advice to you new owners hunting for SP: say no to GadgetShieldz.

Spend another few bucks instead and get the Realook ultra clear SP... Tons of good reviews as screen protector for Galaxy S. $10.99 + $3.10 shipped to Malaysia from Amazon. What's best about this thing is it comes in a FULL package with everything you need to install the shield: the alcohol/screen cleaning cloth/manual and best part of all - 2 SETS. So it's actually cheaper if you split the price up when compared to GadgetShieldz sweat.gif

im using the gadgetshieldz

1) i beg the differ about the back cover, it think it does fully cover the back, if you see the diagrams of other expensive model such as ZAGG with FULL coverage, you can see it is the same pattern, while i do agree the screen is SUCK big time

2) what kind of smudges are you talking about? the first time after i apply it does seems like fingerprint will be everywhere but as time goes by the fingerprint magnet just go away, dont know how.

3) this i do agree, plus you also will get some kinda rainbow effect, kinda hate it

4) yupe not smooth for swyping

5) im using it nearly a month now, no, it does not scratch easily, even my psp using gadgetshieldz doesnt have scratches on it after only god know how many month.

you must be some hardcore user for the to scratches only after two weeks

if you are searching for new protector i recommend Phantomskinz cause it come with chrome protector too, i think i will order it to replace the screen

The device is quite small about the size of samsung U600/ credit card in size, maybe 6 pieces together in a stack for thickness , you can just leave it in a bag. The device lasts about 4h on 1 full charge. Battery is removable. Charging on laptop/USB and you can still use it.

I forgot to add that configuring it is via a 1 time config on a computer.
After that you can connect up to 5 devices up to it using wifi. Security codes available, so no one can leech.

How would a dual sim work on the SGS? And I suggest not going that way cause android doesn't seem to support dual sim.
Actually digi's Rm15 is 5 days, this was what the customer service told me when I asked. Hotlink has RM25 for 2GB / week.

Haha, I want to get this combo as well. smile.gif
So instead of having to turn on AP on the phone to share, I rather do it via a mifi. And if my family wants to use it, they don't have to keep asking me to switch around my phone settings. Just turn on the mifi module and they can surf outside.

AFAIK, the digi smart plan can be used on the mifi for RM68 3GB a month quota.

Right... even my house and office have wifi, but I still think Data plan is a must especially when you go out shopping or raya. You must go out to other places instead office and home only rite.. hmm.gif biggrin.gif

nice solution. But it will a bit crampy when you are in GPRS network and sharing with multiple user. 3G and EDGE should be ok I think.
