I managed to completely take away the TM's DIR615 from the network. My solution as follows:

BTU -> RB250GS @Port 5 -> STB IPTV
...........RB250GS @Port 4 -> My Old Router

The RB250GS is Mikrotik 5 Ports Gigabit Manage Switch. I get it from Singapore at USD39.95 + about USD17.00 postage from Singapore to KL. After receive it, you have to upgrade the firmware to version 1.2, every things look fine. I think this is one of the cheap solution to get a stable network with IPTV and Internet. :-)

Wow this is excellent news. Hope that maybe a guide can be added for newbie users who are interested to break the dependency on the 615, especially if all it takes is a firmware update and a config file!

Sorry, didn't really get the real reason you wanted to remove DIR-615 but introducing a switch in the equation. rizvanp has shown how to make the network bridge .. which I believe doing almost exactly as what you did above with no extra cost. I haven't got any problem with this setup .. but I wish I can remove the DIR-615 totally but not replacing it with another device ..

1 - 2 weeks. It depends on which day u choose. If Sat & Sun only, you may have to wait 2 weeks. And also it depend on the Unifi demand at ur area.

what is the point of remove dir615 but replace with another HW with the function similar to dir615? watse money.. doh.gif
many people here are trying to find the solution of totally remove dir615 and using only own router to do the iptv and internet job but not find smth to replace dir615..

I believe there is value in the solution.

1) you are replacing the DIR615 with a more robust, reliable piece of hardware.
2) the gigabit switch can be used for future needs.

ONE of big reason is the failure rate of the DIR-615 at this moment is questionable as well as the so called Wireless N function on it. Although I didn't experience much problem from it, but with the amount of issues we're been hearing it here on the forums already make me wonder how long would the device life span would last with just IPTV usage + 24/7 operation.

Another reason is there are some issues on the WAN PPPoE profile setup guide from me for Huawei GPON(BTU) users are not the final workaround to replace the DIR-615 router as well. There will be some port forwarding issues that you will encountered after long hour of usage. Meaning that if you torrent much like me or using any application that would required port forwarding, it would require some system reboot on the BTU.

In which rizvanrp already mention to me on this as the NAT will not be function normal on this setup, BUT if you are only concentrating on using it for http download it should be a better / temporary solution at this moment or should something bad happen to your DIR-615 router while waiting for replacement my guide could come in handy as well.

Every guide which has been give out on this thread at the moment are all come with pros and cons as well as wide range of personal or general views.

The most common method for capping is to downgrade your bandwidth after you hit the pre-set limit

I fully agreed what you said. The TM's DIR615 G1 router is not available in the market at the moment and the failure rate is high. For those who like to keep a spare in case the TM's DIR615 failure, you can immediately swap the RB250GS Switch to resume the service while waiting for the TM people come to replace your spoil DIR615. Don't forget, The TM's DIR615 only got one year warranty, after that you have to pay for it. At that moment, are you going to pay for a high failure rate DIR615 or a robust RB250GS?

I will be still using the DIR615 which just act like a VLAN bridge and keep my RB250GS as a standby unit.

Well if you're lucky enough to be one of the Huawei GPON BTU owner then you have the luxury to get connect to the internet via configuring the WAN PPPoE profile. If not then you just have to play the waiting game I guess.

My BTU is ZTE. Now I'm only switching the internet on when I'm at home and switching it off before I sleep, scared the router kaput.
