new unifi user reporting in. The installation took almost 3 hours due to a problem with the wiring in my condo's riser room (according to them). Finally everything's set and ready - I'm on the VIP5 package. I have to say the DR615 router looks very flimsy. Will be applying the recommendations from rizvanrp in a bit.

Also, for existing streamyx customers, REMEMBER to immediately terminate your homeline and streamyx account after unifi installation, unless you want a nasty surprise at the end of the month...

Hopefully there are some solution out before the end of 1 year warranty period ......

Hmmmm, just wonder how the 1 warranty period count, is it from the day we signed up or from the date we get the replacement?
Meanwhile, just use it kuat-kuat lah, hopefully can keep replacing until we get the more stable one  tongue.gif

I suppose I'll have to do this also. I've run out of plug points to support another router and my wife will kill me if I have too many wires going around the living room. It already looks like a holy mess. During my installation yesterday I asked the techs about the router durability - they admitted that it fails VERY OFTEN, and they have highlighted to the management but other than that they're just salaried workers who have to do as their told.

I have just registered with TM UNIFI yesterday, upgrade from Streamyx Combo.

I was informed, my current telephone number (8062xxxx) will be changed to a new assigned number (8051xxxx), do you have the similar scenario?

You will actually get a new number, but you will have an option to keep the old number if you want to (but still have to pay the monthly rental).

QUOTE(billytong @ Aug 17 2010, 12:07 PM)
No worries, just smash the router 1-2month b4 the warranty expires & claim the new one. I doubt they will still be using this problem router after 1 year. Think about how many routers they gonna keep replacing if they still using this broken one for the next 12months.
*
QUOTE(calvin92 @ Aug 17 2010, 12:52 PM)
Nono what i mean is it will cover from the day u got unifi till one year. so during that 1 year u can replace broken one as required.
*
QUOTE(billytong @ Aug 17 2010, 01:53 PM)
No, the warranty stays with the Registration date. Something still wonders me that why the heck they give 1 year warranty in a 2 years contract.  doh.gif If my router fail after 1 year usage, I will get rip off by TMnet to buy their router at inflated price. and I cannot renew my Unifi contract with a new set of equipment because there is still 1 year left. Standard practice for business eh, an opportunity to rip off ur customer?
So I guess even I didnt really smash the router I will just send back to TMpoint. Lie about it spoil already to get the "Stable" one. With the quality of DIR-615 now, i am quite worried that Tmnet will rip me off after 1 year. Might as well send to RMA b4 warranty to get stable version. Get ready to abuse your DIR-615 then!
*
That's what I thought. So until I get clearance (and an extra plug point) to use rizvanrp's guide, I'll be pushing my DIR615 till it breaks, and then get on the hook to TM, and repeat till they finally come out with a model that DOESN'T suck.

Don't think you'd need to push very hard. Just make sure to keep the unit nice and warm, if you know what I mean. Sure koyak  icon_idea.gif

The number that comes with Unifi is fixed. You can just easily use a splitter to split your phone and fax
*
Heheh I've cleared out an empty space around the ZTE and DIR615. The only thing around them are the wires...and the air blown by my stand fan. Maybe I should keep my A/C on as well tongue.gif

The DIR 615 has a USB port in front brows.gif

I know about the USB port but I'm worried of putting additional stress on the router. Afterwards the lifetime
become lesser and lesser...

I'm connected via cable also get upload speed 1/2 of the download speed. How do I fix the router? I changed wifi to 20mhz already. lol
*
I think at 50% of the download speed they're still within their so called "best effort" speed. I get about 4.x Mbps on wireless, although speedtest to Japan always shows 6-9Mbps LOL

QUOTE(ahsiah @ Aug 18 2010, 08:12 AM)
Just wonder FTP download within download speed limitation?
*
Based on my FTP usage to Jeens Torrentflux, I'm getting average of 38x to 43x kBps, which i think is about right.

QUOTE(r47z @ Aug 18 2010, 08:25 AM)
really? is this a known problem now? *cross fingers*
*
Yup, basically just remember calling their support line is gonna be expensive....

Jeen has torrentflux now? =x

Heheh sorry my mistake, it's not actually torrentflux : but I'm getting good speeds from him on Unifi. Now I'm wondering if I should terminate...

Rizvanrp,
I was reading your site about the D-LINK router security and compared to my router and the options you mention in your site does not exist in the WEB ui of my router.

I got UniFi installed less than 7 days ago. Strangely, I manage to telnet into the router with the operator password but the option to chg password in the Web UI does not exist. Same goes for the TR069 protocol.

Perhaps you may want to add this into your well documented HowTo for others to keep up to date.

Thanks.
*
can you give more details like router model, or even screenshots after you log into your operator account?

I managed to completely take away the TM's DIR615 from the network. My solution as follows:

BTU -> RB250GS @Port 5 -> STB IPTV
...........RB250GS @Port 4 -> My Old Router

The RB250GS is Mikrotik 5 Ports Gigabit Manage Switch. I get it from Singapore at USD39.95 + about USD17.00 postage from Singapore to KL. After receive it, you have to upgrade the firmware to version 1.2, every things look fine. I think this is one of the cheap solution to get a stable network with IPTV and Internet. :-)

Wow this is excellent news. Hope that maybe a guide can be added for newbie users who are interested to break the dependency on the 615, especially if all it takes is a firmware update and a config file!

agree with you..
what is the point of remove dir615 but replace with another HW with the function similar to dir615? watse money.. doh.gif
many people here are trying to find the solution of totally remove dir615 and using only own router to do the iptv and internet job but not find smth to replace dir615..
*
I believe there is value in the solution.

1) you are replacing the DIR615 with a more robust, reliable piece of hardware.
2) the gigabit switch can be used for future needs.

I fully agreed what you said. The TM's DIR615 G1 router is not available in the market at the moment and the failure rate is high. For those who like to keep a spare in case the TM's DIR615 failure, you can immediately swap the RB250GS Switch to resume the service while waiting for the TM people come to replace your spoil DIR615. Don't forget, The TM's DIR615 only got one year warranty, after that you have to pay for it. At that moment, are you going to pay for a high failure rate DIR615 or a robust RB250GS?

I will be still using the DIR615 which just act like a VLAN bridge and keep my RB250GS as a standby unit.
*
this is what I'm talking about. And everytime the DIR615 dies you have to wait several days....can tahan that kind of downtime?

Well if you're lucky enough to be one of the Huawei GPON BTU owner then you have the luxury to get connect to the internet via configuring the WAN PPPoE profile. If not then you just have to play the waiting game I guess.
*
My BTU is ZTE. Now I'm only switching the internet on when I'm at home and switching it off before I sleep, scared the router kaput.

Good morning all. Checking in after 2 weeks of Unifi.

My DIR615 seems to be hanging on. I only switch it on when I come back from work and switch it off before bedtime. That's no guarantee it will survive but I'm just happy it's still alive.

Tempted to join the bulk but cash is a bit strapped this raya month. Looking forward to yall getting freedom from the 615.

I went to TMPoint just now to pay my first bill (somehow, they bill you upfront, so need to pay RM291 for it) and the guy at the counter told me that starting my second bill, TM will charge RM8 for normal bill, anybody else getting the same information?
*
Did your first bill come via post or online? The upfront billing is quite clearly indicated when you sign up.

I'm still waiting for my first bill to come...

The first bill come in via post .. well, I signed up via 1-300, so they didn't tell me all other stuff .. the TM Point guy said that we could get the bill online but I've just visited Unifi website, no sign of accessing account information there ..
*
I signed in via a kiosk in Tesco. The guy there made it quite clear lah. I'm also wondering where the hell do I get to view my bill online...

Guys, I need help on my VOIP.  The technician that came and install my unifi wasn't able to setup my VOIP, he claims that he setup mostly on huawei BTU but since I stay in a high rise building, TM gave me a ZTE 931 VDSL2 modem instead and they can't get it setup.

Anyone with ZTE 931 VDSL2 Modem and have their VOIP up and running, would you mine taking a screenshot of that VOIP Basic Setting page for me?

Thank you very much.
*
im surprised you signed the acceptance form. I live in a high rise too, but the techs got all my services running (after running into a problem at the riser level). after i made sure everything was tested (they insisted on making me turn on IPTV and calling using the DECT phone). btw im also on ZTE BTU.
