to me biggest drawback ... 3 things.. 1.Screen resolution.... some time u really frust while surf on the nHD resolution screen ... where top phone like Desire/Galaxy S with much much higher resolution which u can surf with much more pleasure... yet to mention SuperAMOLED 2. CPU speed/RAM.. I doubt N8 able to beat those 1Ghz CPU, with the new Froyo out.. they are even faster ... 3. OS/Software.. I don't think Symbian able to keep up with Android... what I see at the moment, the Symbian^3 are only more on cosmetic change from the S60V5.... I doubt it is stable.. typical Nokia... and most application symbian have are aging... so yester year....

if N8 can adress the no.1 and 2.. I would say it is in the position to fight with top Android n the I4.....

sadly... even the symbianguru webpage also closing down and the founder jumping ship to Android..... haiz....

depends on customers demand and what they want.there is no phone perfect.(except N95 time)i want a phone with good camera?there is no one in android.and of course N8 doesnt provide us with the higher CPU and ram.in summary,depends on consumers demand.

are you sure no good camera phones with Android O.S? Search for Altec Leo, 14.1 mega pixel, with optical zoom..

altek leo? how good is the quality of the phone? Q4 2010 their first phone? you can even fit 20 mega pixel to a phone but that doesnt mean its good.

MAYBE below RM2000 ... for my opinion , must RM2000 above ....

1. Its pointless to surf on higher resolution. You cant see a damn thing at all. After all, you still got to zoom in. The thing with Nokia is that they dont make you feel its easy and fun to surf the web on their phone. All they ever did is zoom and zoom. When I zoom in with my Legend, it will auto fit to the screen width just nicely. I dont think Nokia is ready to do this just yet.

2. I think CPU type is more important than CPU speed. On top of that, having enough ram is more important for multi-tasking. It would be better if it were to have a 3d accelerator like most Android do. My HTC Legend runs quite fine with just 600MHz.

3. I think Symbian OS is very capable but due to the restriction by Nokia (not open source lastime), very few hesitate to develop app for it. OVI Suite is a good beginning but I afraid its too late.

already open source.dun forget N8 support qt platform which mean it able to run Meego aka Maemo5 apps.M5 got tons of apps.S1 oso got tons of apps(but its quite outdated apps)

I know la. Android also open source, and even though the overall response is quite good, its still way behind Iphone. It will be a very long journey for Nokia, thats for sure. For me, I would completely avoid buying a Nokia smartphone for good. Why? I dont want to be white mouse. Nokia is currently having no direction at all. If you read their roadmap, it really sounds nice but are they going to achieve it or just plain talk? Developers already walked away one after another, how are you going to attract customer to buy your phone when your app is limited.

Right now, Android is the big hot shot. Everyone want a piece of it. As for Nokia, I dont even think N8 is going to last even a year if they cant find enough developers to make it interesting. Just a comparison, when Iphone were still unheard of and Android is not even in the making, how many app do you find for Nokia S60V1,2,3 vs S60V5? There aint that much new app really. Even the games were mostly ported java games. Thats why Nokia share is at all time low.

I kinda agree that Nokia is already lost direction . But theres still hope for Nokia since Meego is around the corner.

Nokia caters different market. People who live in South Asia, SEA who buys Nokia.

Most of Nokia phones are made to set and leave, without needed for an firmware upgrade. Those white mouse are high end smartphones buyers while in Nokia eyes, the 'smart ones' are the one who buys middle end phones.

Look at 5800XM. I bet the soon to be release C6 will create massive(or a bit less) effect like 5800XM does.

Touchscreen + stable S60v5 (for now), + sufficient set of functions (music player, SMS yada2) + sturdy body + QWERTY.

Even i have a big interest in C6, not N8. Yes, N8 do have some superior functions that even Android do not see its coming.


External HDD > N8 > HDMI > LCD TV/monitors > HD movie playback

Good god. We don't need IPTV/HTPC after this.

A (maybe) good browser in N8 will make HTPC manufacturers gasping for air.

The one who cares about high end smartphones are Europeans and Americans.

Japanese JPhones like Sharp and Sony Ericsson still using Symbian and I bet most of them don't give a shit about iphone and AppStore. Thats why you see Vivaz comes with Symbian. Not Android.

Samsung are brave enough to release Bada. Their own market already sufficient to support Bada.

To make it short, yes, Symbian purpose in South Asia, SEA are becoming more like JPhones. Everyday, everyone phones. To cater highschool wannabees, our mommy and daddy near pension-age, university students whose depend on loans/parents pocketmoney.

Not some people with income RM3.5k above who loves hanging out at Starbucks. That's MeeGo/Android/iphoneOS for you (hopefully).



After all, it's not about N8's technology, it's about what you do with N8. (N8's tagline. )

and please Nokia, equip N8 with Comes With Music edition.

very true. it depends on the optical sensor. you can have a 20 mp camera with useless sensor. but the image quality wont beat a 12mp with good optical sensor

Time has changed. Its a matter of WHEN and not if. You dont need a lot of money to buy Android or Iphone. Right now our telecommunication market has been stagnant liao. Revenue from call charges alone wont do it. They are aiming for mobile internet (data) and to do that, they will keep on subsidising phone cheap enough to lure customer to sign up. This will be the trend for the next few years. Forget about Nokia. So what if QT + Firefox. Thats a big IF. I dont see a big deal with Firefox now. Google has almost conquer the web OS market with their app. Thats why their web browser on their Android is amazing. Just look at the pathetic web browsing review on Nokia N8. It does pinch and zoom and you have to scroll left and right to read the text which is stupid. Look at how Android present the page to you when you pinch and zoom.

Just sit and watch Nokia falter. S60V5 has been nothing but another test platform for Nokia, albeit a better one than Symbian S90. They dont have the innovation anymore. Im a previous owner of 5800 and I felt nothing fresh at all from it. All I can see is the former 7710 (also a former owner) being rotated 90degree and being represented as a new platform with some add on like GPS. Even that took years...

BTW, speaking of SE, have you ever buy a smartphone from them? You should buy one and enjoy it... Look at those M600, P990, X10 etc... Im a former M600 owner as well.

That was before tax and subsidies. The 470 is the price for pre-order/after tax and subsidies in Germany , If i'm not wrong.
