The software update is nothing more than a placebo effect.

Sometime I wish Nokia would just simply allow N8 to run android. That OS is really getting a lot of attention.

At that price, I might we well get a Samsung Galaxy S, or a cheaper Samsung Wave.

QUOTE
Right next to the white Samsung Galaxy S we found the Nokia N8  (priced at 499 euro, ouch!) which, just like the I9000, will start shipping soon. The last time we heard of the N8 was when it appeared on the Italian website of Nokia for as price of 469 euro. It informed us that the device is about to head for the stores sometime by the end of September but as it turns out now we may see it way sooner.

By the way, Spain isn't the only country that should get the N8 before September. The phone is said to hit it off on 31 August in UK where it will cost even more - 420 GBP (around 505 euro). Double ouch!

Triple ouch!

Exchange 420GBP you get RM 2,1 k!

no no no..  N8 fanboy shouldn't Ouch! ....  half bite fruit sell RM4k also got ppl buy... no ouch....
Spending RM4k is already out of my league so why should I even make comparison?

I have a certain budget in mind when it comes to hand phones which is roughly RM 1.5k. So if the N8 hits above RM2k its already making it tough for me to purchase it.

I'm no Nokia fanboy. I just want a reasonably priced hand phones that can give me the features I wanted.

I'm still waiting to see the final price for the Asian market.

N8 not really the best...as i mentioned earlier it has a lot of disadvantages but for a mid range phone it is nothing to complaint about la..so nokia claimed that N8 is mid range phone, probably their high end phone for this year is Meego???drooling.
*
"The Best" is highly subjective.

Meego phones, while gets you drooling, but if lacks, say a good 12MP camera with XENON flash, it can't be "The Best" for me, or anyone trying to look for a phone with very good camera.

I like the Samsung Galaxy S, nice RAM, nice processor speed, but the flash less camera is just unforgivable.

An interview from Nokia's VP. Long article but the bottom line:

QUOTE

    *  On the N8: The N8 is more of a high to mid-range smartphone. It will be launched before the end of Q3. It will be available in the US, and carrier partnerships will be announced at a later date.

    * On MeeGo: The first MeeGo phone will be announced before the end of the year and will be a "milestone product" for the company. Nokia's done a lot of work on the interface and done away with a lot of the "legacy" of Symbian.

    * On Android: Nokia has no plans to use Android on its smartphones. End of story.

    * On tablets / larger phones: The company's made "no decisions" on entering the market. Savander seems to think larger screened smartphones are awkward.

    * On netbooks: The Booklet 3G was priced a bit high, but they are still in the market.

    * On 4G: Nokia has no plans to produce WiMax devices, but LTE will be a big focus.

The one and only thing that keep customers coming back is good experience and satisfaction. Nokia has none.
That's funny. Why do you think we are here anticipating the release of N8?

I have also read how people abandon android for iphone. Care to explain that?

I have to agree with the N8 design. Really looks outdated.

hmm.gif I think it's OK if it's thinner like 10.00mm with this kind of design. And I really like the alumnium + variation of colours.  wink.gif

I'm more bothered by design of the top and bottom than the thickness. Looks so dated, not very stylish at all, very 'kasar'.

Maybe the cheap packaging is to save cost. All the more reason to get rid of the box instead of keeping it.

Added on August 10, 2010, 9:19 pmHoly cow! Its thinner than my N82! Now I can imagine the size of this unit!

Will there be quality difference between AP vs Original set of Nokia N8?

Not sure. I heard different stories about how AP is inferior compared to original, such as screen quality, batt. For the price of over RM2k is a bit too much for me, and my only hope is to get the AP version. I think I can do well without warranty given how robustness of nokia phones.

What annoys me is how they still cannot give out the price for the Malaysian market.
