You sure Garmin MobileXT can be used in Nokia N8?
If not mistaken, N8 using Symbian^3, quite different with other Symbian S60 5.0.
*
N8 (Symbian^3) support both Qt apps and old S60v5 apps. Hence I think dat it'll work.
And I'm really digging on Symbian^4 rite now. Too bad I'm dead set on buying N900 lol laugh.gif

look like android... but this is a Symbian^4.....
not a must... even some software run on S60V3 in 1 phone not neccessary it will run on another S60V3 in another phone...
*
Yup..in fact that some early reports says dat some S60v5 apps do run flawlessly on N8 (Gravity and Opera) whilst some run with minor glitches.
Should try first if it really supports Garmin, but for me, I dun use Garmin as much as before as I rely more on Ovi Maps rite now. Free nav FTW? laugh.gif

Saw already some video for gaming on N8...and I've to say that the Broadcom GPU unit in this is a beast as it renders games almost to the iPhone level of quality rclxms.gif

I dunno if we can dismiss it as fake rite now. If u read the N8 specs, the zoom mechanism was the same as N86 one ie Real Digital Zoom
Video demo embedded below

Now2 mybe the sw was refined in N8? Hmm only time will tell.
Personally I hope that the vid was not fake icon_rolleyes.gif

Walau eh =.=ll
I explained the hell out of me and you guys still not convinced ...
See the exceeding fps that you'll know. Heres how ,
While watching the video , Right click , Click "Show video info" and you'll get it.

And at 2.26 listen while he zooms , you'll hear a slight sound .

QUOTE(BuFung @ Aug 1 2010, 09:20 AM)
seem like ppl don't really understand what I explaint...  look at this video.. the "Digital zooming".. it is 1 zoom by 1 zoom... jumping from 1 to another... the zooming are not smooth like optical zooming from the previous "n8" zoom... that one is real optical zooming...  sweat.gif sweat.gif
*
OH LOL...internutz iz serious business

I'm not saying that the video was the truth, just saying that MAYBE the video have some sort of merit on it. And by the way that all of u analyses this video is truely commendable notworthy.gif
Hey2 no offense though icon_rolleyes.gif

p/s- still finding that N86 digital zooming mechanism is the best in cell phones (in terms of digital zoom), which I hope will be more of an improvement n N8. For me, this is one hidden innovation that Nokia failed to promote throughly when N86 was released. Hope that Nokia will promote tis MAGICAL innovation in N8 (couldn't resist tis pun lol laugh.gif )

ok.nokia claimed that their QT platform is going to support WinMo,Android and apple apps.
*
Lulz...well I dun think so...N8 only supports apps which was written with QT toolkit. And the existing apps that was written for android OS and Apple etcetc cannot run on N8, not before the developer port their apps to Qt.
And although there are some QT ports out there, such as for WebOS, i dun think that it will reach the same compatibility level of the Symbian OS and Meego provides. Although I would like to be proven wrong here nod.gif
And come on, do you think draconian Apple gonna let other runtimes to work on their phones/ OS? rolleyes.gif laugh.gif

And no spamming plz...Keep this thread clean lulz icon_rolleyes.gif

If they can lure developers to write in Qt, Nokia would dump Symbian and any other OS it has because they just have to collect royalties from whoever that licence Qt including Apple and Google. Not so easy to be done. It would however make switching between Nokia phone less painful for both developers and users if they managed to get it work within their own Symbian/Meego/Maemo.
*
Lulz...yep, to lure other manufacturer is hard. And AFAIK, the WebOS port was actually just like a hobby works. I doubt that it will reach the same compatibility level of Meego n Symbian OS.
But as u said, it surely helps in the overall strategy of Nokia, as they can support two OS by leveraging on a single runtime for both of them, thus saving cost and also widening their reach especially in the application availability for both OS. nod.gif

Wow....wat juz happens hahaha3. Me iz late to the party as usual

Well, doesn't have much to say, but as I said earlier, to me, I don't find Nokia S60v5 is bad, I just felt like it was damn inconsistent. Coupled with a weak hardware and there u r, a recipe for disaster,...*cough N97 cough* doh.gif

But, N8 with its Symbian^3 already remedy these inconsistency. Coupled with sufficient hardware and im sure that it'll do just fine.
Not saying that Nokia is not at fault too, believe me, I still remember how I keep my finger crossed for the N8 to be equipped with an 3rd gen CPU eg ARM Cortex A8. And I still don't understand the reason y an ARM 11 CPU was choosen. Spare me the crap on the batt saving, the batt savin capability on newer cpu is much better than ARM11 ones. Haih =_="
Although the GPU in N8 is a monster itself lulz laugh.gif

On the other hand, I also respect how Nokia try to remedy this problem. They try to engage the community directly with initiatives such as the Nokia Ranger program. Ya I'm sure that they are quite late in realizing that they must change, but I'm sure that they still could pull this off.

All in all, I do tip my hat off to those who changed for the better. Especially large company like Nokia.
But really, don't let us down again, believe me, the main problem with the brand is not the marketshare, its about the mindshare icon_rolleyes.gif

Just my 2 cent tho. And again, keep the flamewar outta here plz icon_rolleyes.gif

^ Well TBH, no one know when N8 will be released in Malaysia. But expect around 3rd Q i hope.

And for those who ask for Swype on N8 (Or any S60v5) phones, i believe that an alternative for a similar keyboard. Try google around for SlideIT icon_rolleyes.gif

And WWIII? Try to control urself from being childish here will ya? sweat.gif
