it's cheap and everywhere people are selling it. however, in term warranty claim Hitachi is slow compare to WD. If you ask me, i'd settle for WD since the different is just a few ringgit.

it's a virtual CD that contains the installers and manuals for their software. It pops up as another separate drive when plugged in, but i don't find it annoying so far. can still live with it smile.gif

So many terrible reviews...look at the number of 1 stars given? doh.gif http://www.amazon.com/Western-Digital-Esse...nDateDescending

I'm going to give this a skip... how about a nice Transcend 1TB 3.5" ext HDD?I know their 25M 2.5" is extremely good

greetings,

I like to ask for a favor here. Been looking around lately to find new external hard drive to replace my old one. But there so many to choose. So some suggestions for reliable hard drive would help a lot biggrin.gif

- around 1tb to 2tb is ok
- reliable transfer speed (my transcend 320gb now only transfer less than 1mb/s, dunno why it happens sad.gif )
- gonna use to store raw images
- prefer 2.5" due to no need of power supply but if not available, i'll get 3.5"

price is no concern. if it's really reliable, then it worth the money.

Thanks.

1TB 2.5" Western Digital Element sells for RM400+, from PC Zone's 1st of December price list.
2TB 3.5" Western Digital MyBook Essential RM469
2TB 3.5" Hitachi XL for RM375

Go for Hitachi?
If you want reliability over anything else, not portability, then go NAS then RAID1 or RAID5 few any brand HDDs.

Er this is not the trade section, you should ask the sellers in here:
http://forum.lowyat.net/Memory&Drives

btw for low margin items like hdds, you should stop asking for best price unless you're buying in bulk...
you may also want to look at Viewnet's pricelist

RAID 1 with different brand of storage, if you plan buying together. No hard disk can escape being fail
