Hey, was gaming bioshock this morning then the game started to stutter and lag here and there.
50 minutes later I got BSOD.......then my hard disk disappeared from POST dettection. I turn it off and secure the converter (IDE HDD -> sata) and cables abit then on........okay. Is the fault lies in the converter cause............getting loose or something or is it overheating after using too long? the HDD temp 30c - 50c. |

QUOTE(alvinfks78 @ Dec 6 2010, 09:21 AM) Hey, was gaming bioshock this morning then the game started to stutter and lag here and there. Temperature could be a tad high, try to keep below 40C for better performance. Buy cheap fans, prefer 12cm (120mm) to give a better airflow, should be around ~RM15 And the loose of cable is also one problem, How long has you been using the cable? Is your hard disk vibrate really hard during operation? You could try use rubber silicon glue (or equivalent, BUT NOT super glue) to hold it in place (few drops), it should hold it but still able to detach if needed to. (cheapo way |

QUOTE(xirmain @ Dec 8 2010, 10:31 AM) Yes you can.Sata I,II,III difference is the interface speed they can deliver. But HDD limitation come from its speed ability itself aka write/read within itself, not the interface of Sata. Just like a car that has top speed on 120km/h, putting the car into a highway that can drive 120km/h vs 240km/h, make little difference. |

QUOTE(yehlai @ Dec 7 2010, 03:16 AM) This question has no solid answer, some people find phobia in certain brand due to too many RMA history. Some just fan of a brand, nothing else, reliability all depends on luck, IMHO. But according to Toms Hardware HDD reliability research, Hitachi seems to be the most reliable, again they conclude this figure can only be taken as grain of salt as it's only based on limited market and not as a whole (you can't really do that actually). Recently Samsung HDD is popular due to its competitive pricing and the "coolness" of its drive. And oh, RAID (not the 0, stripped) will compensate for the reliability of the HDD. |

Speedfan http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php
HDDScan http://hddscan.com/ Speedfan allows comparing your SMART results to online database for more suggestive informations. HDDScan, external hard disk cannot retrieve SMART? This software supports all, even monitor your external hard disk temperature, cool? Hell yeah~ These 2 software are the most that I used to retrieve the SMART info from my hard disk. Speedfan even allow you to compare your result to online database for more information. If you feel performance drop, watch for "Relocated sectors count" or "Pending sectors count", these 2 by far is what make the hard disk slows down, even with fresh installed windows, it still slows down after few hours usage. So don't think SMART is not much of a use, it's a preventive warning to your precious data. If possible TS please put these information on the first page, thanks This post has been edited by wildwestgoh: Dec 8 2010, 02:27 PM |
