hi guys,

i want to buy 3.5" external hdd for movie storage and a media player.
Is green caviar or eco.green hdd suitable for it?

i always get the lags when playing blueray rip movies with my thumbdrives.. does the hdd read/write speed affected in media player setup?

i dont think you will face any problem playing full HD vid from an external drive. My external seems doing fine streaming 1080P .mkv content to my pc. You might be having that problem if it were to be played from a normal thumbdrive though.

WD Green is great for those WD fan whom need to save a little power and don't want to heat up their baby (but they still can't even beat the heat produced by Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB which is running at 7,200rpm).
As for CCTV and servers alike storage, don't go for Green, go for the CCTV certified or RAID edition, they're built for much durable, rough environment and longer lasting, but they'll break anyway but it should provide you much longer service period than the Green, that's why you pay more for it.

Yeah, Samsung seems to be cheapest now, at least at Lowyat anyway.
It's quite sux that Kuching, Sarawak here has almost no-one stocking the Samsung 2TB, and I bought it at premium price last October, feels a bit regret but oh well. sad.gif

Are you using this as your primary OS boot disk? If it's, it's recommend you switch to Blue or Black one as the Green really lag whenever you idle too long (it tend to slows down and park its head back to the seat), access time is high so you expect longer wait.
