QUOTE(Traveler @ Jan 24 2011, 03:37 PM) It comes with USB3 and eSATA. But to use eSATA, I would need an eSATA port multiplier PCIe card as my motherboard's eSATA ports are not port multiplier. It's cheaper to buy a USB3 card, which is what I did. I've not tested it myself but I seem to read (in a few posts here and there online), than USB3 is marginally faster than eSATA in real life use. usb3.0 > esata? my esata spd is 60mb/s++ on avg for a slow hdd (green)Most of my transferring is done in hefty hundreds of GB chunks. btw, i got one port multiplier card for sale as i m using probox too, heehee This post has been edited by sotong168: Jan 24 2011, 03:50 PM |

QUOTE(alvinfks78 @ Jun 28 2011, 01:41 PM) I bought F3 Samsung 1Tb from Czone in end of April................now in RMA alreadi. what issue is it? my frenz 1tb samsung f3 also died after 6mth of usage, all of sudden cannot boot-up, put into docking station also cannot be powered-up, i suspect the culprit was faulty pcb; anyhow, already get his replacement unit within 1-wksomemore so fast F4 come out alreadi i got few units of f4, so far so gud, but they mainly for storage purpose, so no intensive read/write activities |

QUOTE(turion64 @ Jun 29 2011, 01:56 PM) mine is not f4, it is just a f4eg 5400rpm mainly for storing dataas for f3, used to be bang 4 buck for me, but now i reserve my comment on its reliability as experienced few faulty units after a year or so |

QUOTE(turion64 @ Jun 29 2011, 02:44 PM) fyi, yup, that is what ppl claimed and suppose to be cooler too, but since i dun use them as main hdd for os (they all are 5400rpm afterall), all i need is the good reliability, hope they dun die out of sudden (knock the wood...) The new Samsung 2TB F4 HD204UI uses three 667GB platters for a performance gain of 19% over the older 4 platter HD203UI F3 model it replaces. It also uses 23% less power in standby mode. nice. |

QUOTE(everling @ Jul 2 2011, 12:33 PM) Came across a firmware update for the HD204UI. Those planning to buy might want to read the following first. ouch... http://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/smartmont...ngF4EGBadBlocks http://www.samsung.com/global/business/hdd..._bbs_msg_id=386 It seems to be a relatively minor problem however. Although if the bug is triggered and "bad blocks" are reported, it is a software problem and not an actual hardware problem. Btw, according to Samsung Support, HD204UI drives manufactured December 2010 or later is patched with the firmware (source) |
