RAID 1 with different brand of storage, if you plan buying together. No hard disk can escape being fail

I don't really get all these RAID thingy...however i'm currently looking at a nice Seagate GoFlex Desk 1TB 3.5" ext HDD. Reviews over at amazon seems good, it looks good also.. hmm.gif What do you think about it?

Buy 2 and RAID1, either 1 fail you still have 1 going.
If you want a little more space and speed, buy 3+ and go for RAID5.
There's no such thing as reliable that guarantee for at least 1 year, you just need to take chances, and of course monitor the SMART regularly to ensure the hard disk is in good condition, it should warn you if it might fail soon.

This reliability question has been going on and on forever, and the answer is there's NO hard disk out there that can guarantee that.

Bookmark these 2 website for your price list reference. Check them around once every week.
As I said reference, you shouldn't get exact price all around Malaysia, different state, city, shop has different prices from different supplier.

Thank you very much for your assistance, wildwestgoh & cannavaro. I know the prices will be different but just want to know what's the price for it lately cause seen lots of ups and downs in the price of the HDD.

Check the SMART for "Pending Sectors Count", "Reallocate Sectors Count", "Uncorrectable Sectors Count" for more information on your hard disk status, if such numbers are high, it's preferred not to use the hard disk anymore, you'll end up losing data, go for new hard disk.
