When I'm in Singapore, my expenses are very much regulated. In KL, especially when I travel everyday by car, traveling expenses itself is almost closed to RM900 (Petrol rm500 ~ rm 600, toll rm100, maintenance rm200/month). In SG, I only spend $80 for public transport, another $100+ for taxis occasionally.

Anyone here in Singapore with family ie. spouse + kids? I'm just wondering what sort of expenses I can expect for family members eg. health insurance, daycare, schooling, car/bus to school etc. I scanned through the pages but everyone is still single biggrin.gif

Why use an account with no ATM yet still charge annual fee?

the $20 is for ATM card if I want it. I open the account because I have a housing loan from the same bank.

Cool Mackiddo. Sounds promising. I'm meeting up with a few recruiters in the next few weeks in Singapore, if the offer is good I'll probably take it.

I know a car is not necessary but anyone else brought their car with them? I'd hate to leave/sell my BMW

That low? 2.5k for fresh uni grad (PR or SG) was the bench mark many years ago.

many years ago didnt have any economic crisis... and the last 2 years it was deflation...

i think 2.5k should be the minimum.... some are getting around 4k... of course there are rumours about those getting 8k, but those are just special cases

can try here:

This is based on my own personal experiences and also the figures quoted are for Malaysians with no PR. SG/PR should command a higher pay especially if they have degree from local Singaporean university instead of a Malaysian degree.

AFAIK the recruiter told me 2.5k and above is only for Singaporeans with reason being they went for National Service, so they are unable to offer 2.5k for me. Hence i was quoted the 2.3-2.4 figure.

if there are a few recruiters waiting for you in SG then you should have no problem getting a good deal to have comfortable stay in SG.

My family is here in SG for a number of years. Compare to malaysia, the major cost difference are Housing and Car for most people. Add Childcare, medical, maid cost if applicable.

Housing
- company provide a rental unit for your family (you dont care about future housing cost) OR
- company pay you fix allowance,
- you use it to rent a unit (have fun hunting a good deal on ever increse rental) OR
- buy your property. ( price is on the high side.. so as the demand)
- rent a HDB unit from ~$2000 for your family with your money.

Car
if you drive a BMW in malaysia and your family are coming to SG, forget about our "BMW" (Bus, Mrt, Walk) for sure you are going to get one (or two?) car.
- if the COE is $30k, each year you lost $3k on that alone.
- running cost from ~$600 to a few k per month.
- Cost of car itself is cheaper if compare dollar to dollar without convertion.

You can't import a used Malaysian car into Singapore.. actually you can, but you have to jump through a lot of rings and you'll end up paying a lot of taxes which you might as well put towards a new car.

You can drive a Malaysian car into Singapore but it will cost S$20 per day (there are a number of free days etc) but there is also a limit as to how many days the car can brought into Malaysia. The rules get more complicated if you have a long term pass (work permit or employment pass etc) where your car cannot stay in Singapore beyond a certain number of hours each day. Then if you have residency (PR or citizen), you cannot drive a foreign car altogether in Singapore.

Let me put it this way... if your current career level allows you to (comfortably) buy a BMW in Malaysia, then the potential new job in Singapore will allow you to do the same thing in Singapore. I wouldn't worry.

I don't think it's worth bringing the Msia car to Sg. You know all the taxes, paper work ..etc . I just bought a Sg car, save all the trouble.
