If I recall correctly, money changer charged SGD 10 per transaction, but give you 0.01 better rate. So we can do the calculation from there.
E.g
SGDMYR 2.330
Cash SGD 10k = MYR 23.3k
TT SGD 10k @ 2.34 + SGD 10 = MYR 23.4k, rate = 2.337
I might be wrong.
IF the bank give you a better rate than outside money changer and does not charge you transaction fee(convert money + TT). I usually check online rate, then call a few usual money changer to offer before I change with them. Usually I can get better deal outside.
When withdraw from SG bank you can ask for 1000 note, easy to cary and hide.
If you take bus or train home, better don't carry alot of cash with you. I usually drive home directly, the saving can offset my toll fee, petrol fee...

Hard for me as I don't plan my sundry purchases. I know what I want to buy but I usually like to be flexible when (or which trip) I'll ultimately buy it. And I also don't like always having to walk around with lots of cash on me. Got enough things to think about already without having to worry about this as well.
I opened a Hong Leong bank account with only bank book no ATM card (must pay annual fee too, ~RM20?) So still have to carry cash when go out.
