Generally pasir ris and tampines are cheap compared to those closer to the city centre.

You can get a 4 bed room executive apartment for $1900.

which means if i rent one single room it would be around 400?

better get UOB one card then... spend $900 3 months consecutively, get $90 back (or spend $300 for 3 mths to get $30 back)... but only these 2 tiers available.

best rebate program so far unless u spend much much more than $900 a month.

Hey thanks. This is good. Yeah, I spend about $300 per month easily here and back in Malaysia. The $30 rebate per quarter is about 3.33% effective... if I stop at $300. Should be enough to offset the forex charges.

I think I'll go with this instead of getting a debit card or something in Malaysia.

Give or take, mind you this doesnt include PUB and your mileage may vary on the negotiations between you and the landlord on the rental amount.

Yup. You can just go to any Starhub shop, open an account and buy a cable modem or rent a set top box - take it home, hook it up and you're online and/or have cable tv. Make sure they don't charge you the installation fee.

All access points originally installed by Starhub are activated. The signal is always there. That's why you can straightaway connect your TV to the Starhub point and watch Channel 5, 8, U, RTM1 etc. I just bought the $88 cable modem at the Starhub shop when I signed up for the prepaid Maxonline. Took it home, plugged it in, switched on the computer and the credit card payment screen was there.

Singapore lah. Malaysia one won't help you avoid paying RM50 per year.

Since you stay at bedok, the food court near the bedok mrt station is better then the standard fare.

So far my place has only one redeeming stall which sells "kwa chap".

You havent seen the bangla and indian workers have you? They can live on around 900 sing dollars and still have money to send to their families. It depends on what you prioritize on spending and how much you expect to save.

I usually carry cash into Malaysia when I go home almost once a month. No admin fee and better FX rate can save a few hundred if more than 10K

Last time i survived on an intern stipend of only $610 a month, + RM500 from my parents monthly, shared room, cooked most of my meals, even got extra leftover to go back melaka spend. But more or less every other day have bring bread lunchbox to office and dinner spaghetti or maggi. The problem is when u got money, you tend to spend...so up to you to be disciplined if you want to take advantage of the SGD currency to save.

I budgeted that i should be able to live quite comfortably in a single room $400 and $300 for food, extra $300 for entertainment expenses. That's still $1000 in savings you can take home, equaling most fresh grad gross salary in Malaysia. The real fun starts when you bring that money back home and use there ^^

The real real fun starts when you earn S$15-20K a month. You can save S$10-12K a month and buy a Kancil each time you go home for a monthly visit.

Define huge amount? A bit scared to carry anything more than SGD1k in cash around.

If I recall correctly, money changer charged SGD 10 per transaction, but give you 0.01 better rate. So we can do the calculation from there.

E.g
SGDMYR 2.330
Cash SGD 10k = MYR 23.3k
TT SGD 10k @ 2.34 + SGD 10 = MYR 23.4k, rate = 2.337

I might be wrong.
