Common Kelvin White Balance Settings : 2500K - very strong orange tungsten light 2800K - strong orange tungsten light 3200K - yellowish tungsten light 4500K M6 - flourescent light (most flourescent tubes are green even though our eyes don't see it) 5500K - flash 6500K - daylight (or daylight-balanced flourescent light) 9900K - strong blue stage lighting or evening light
Xenon lighting is rare but that should be between 7000-9000K.
Whenever you enter a new situation that has different WB, just set your Kelvin WB again and test with one shot. You
should be able to do this with practice.
With the Sony A300 and A350, you can use Live View and see the effect of changing Kelvin WB... live!
M = Magenta G = Green 2500K = Blue 9900K = Amber
Take a picture. Supposing the picture is very Green, you need to add the opposite which is Magenta. If the picture is
too Blue you need to go closer to Amber. So if the picture is very blue-green-ish, you will need to go closer to 9900K
M9.
To prevent the built-in flash from appearing in pictures when in wireless flash mode, you can use any of these
methods, or a combination of them:
- use a darker aperture (e.g. F11) - use a lower ISO (e.g. ISO100) - use a shutter speed faster than your flash sync speed so that High Speed Sync is activated (e.g. 1/320th of a
second) - use a piece of exposed, developed negative film in front of your pop-up flash

mind to teach me how to start with?...normally wat setting u all use?..
grats to the new thread.. LOL. I dont really use manual often. More to semi auto for fast moments.. unless you're dealing with still objects which enables u to have lots of time..
mind to teach me how to start with?...normally wat setting u all use?..
For me which is still a noob and amateur, first get used with the aperture and speed of the cam....and thank god my a550 got the liveview mode which I always use to see the end result of my photos...but if using flash, quite hard to predict the end result...need to ask the pro...hehe
Firstly I would like to congratulate on the new thread. My school uses an A230 for all of it's activity.
I wanna ask why photo's taken with the A230 is very yellowish ? Especially on Manual Exposure mode. Auto works fine. The lens is the standard 18-55 kit lens.
Alright, few of them just won themselves few days of vacation. There's no need to congratulate a new thread.
pls make sure others in the Nikon threads, Panasonic Leica, Micro 4/3 threads and other such threads also get the same treatment. Pls dont give anyone the slack.
Thank you for your kind consideration

1)Tamron AF 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 Xr Di-II LD IF 2)Sony 50mm F1.8 SAM 3)Samyang 8 mm f/3.5 Aspherical IF MC Fish-eye
Macro lens is too expensive for me at the moment, thus, I am thinking to get the Raynox DCR-250 macro filter.
so, will this macro filter work on every lens? esp for the 18-200mm ? Can i get a focused image through out all the focal length ? I planing to use it at 200mm zooming some insects etc. Will this work? How is the minimum focusing distance then ?

i think i works as long as ur thread size suits. it's adapter is for thread size 52-67mm. cjlai taught me how o use it. with my 18-70, i fix at 70mm then i move the camera forward or backward until u c the viewfinder show clear focused image. at 70mm my distance is around 5-6cm away. i tried on soket's 75-300. at 300mm very hard to find the subject. XP

aiyoh, 1)Tamron AF 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 Xr Di-II LD IF = 72mm 2)Sony 50mm F1.8 SAM = 52mm
freaky_deity : You wouldn't like the effect of the Tamron 18-200 couple with Raynox DCR-250. It's even worst with Raynox MSN-202. Too much vignetting (not sure it's the right term to it), you'll need to crop the picture to remove the dark circular framing. With the 3 lenses you mentioned, i think the 50mm f/1.8 is the only best match provided you have step up ring to 52mm filter thread.
Btw, Tamron 18-200 thread is 62mm and 50mm f/1.8 SAM is 49mm.
Kul | Mo0 : Maybe you can share us your setup? It's like one of those wedding photos, without the rings. Cool shot.
ISO 400 , f2.2 , 1/250s. a700 + SAL 50mm f1.4 Bokeh is from christmas lights with a table light shone from the left. Beside commenting on the not so "heart shaped" bokeh, any others?
ahpingko Close up filter are tied to a particular filter thread size (if you buy 62mm thread, it can only use on lens with 62mm thread), where as DCR-250 is adjustable from 52 - 67mm thread.
Well if you're not really into macros then I'd suggest u getting Raynox. Cheaper solution for your macro needs. I have one but I rarely use it anymore. Hahahaha.
Primes are "unzoomable" lenses which normally have bigger apertures not able to be obtained from zoom lenses (f1.4 , f1.8) which are also alot more sharper.
UWA = Ultra Wide Angle lenses. UWA is about 10mm~14mm.

so my image not sharp enough is normal la?..coz i using 18-55...
You get blur shots because your shutter speed not fast enough I think. Make sure the object is properly lit up. If not, get a flash.
oh!...i using quite a low speed...around 1/30 - 1/60..lol...i test in my room only..i will see the lightmeter on my 550..make sure it is 0 or slightly positive value beside 0...i only got internal flash...but i dont want use it..too bright...coz i dont know how to make it softer...
if using ISO 400, i capture darkness only....lol...
Slower the shutter speed then, let in more light. But the slower the shutter speed, the more stable your hand must be, or else it'll blur the image. Anything below 1/40 sec I'll recommend a tripod.
Get a cheapo tripod la. Some cheapo tripods r good. I dont have tripods so dont ask me. Heheheh~
i dont want too cheap 1..i saw some DigiEye rm50..lol...so lightweight, later my dearest alpha drop on floor coz i wan to save some hundred ringgit then i will

ahpingko : Trial and error. Some basic stuffs no point learning from words wan. Go out there and really play your camera.
Woots.. damn ambitious.. good good. Last time I used to like aim for the A700 with 18-250 which was priced at 6k with memory card thats all.. Looking back at that.. Im glad I didnt choose that.. In the end settled for A300 twin lens =P
^ if u're using A mode, better have flash/popup flash fired to make sure the subject's well exposed.. even in manual also u have to use it, especially when u're shooting with the sun at the back if ur subject..
eh bro wanna ask something here...i notice C and N brand body seems to be lighter than ours....i am talking about the d40 and 500d or soemthing..compared to the a550 .......how did they make it so light??
Hi guys.. I'm new here.. Currently hold with A300 and look for entry level tele lens. Which is better compare between Tamron and Sigma? What is the different? Pls advise.. Thanks

Have any link or detail on this lens? Btw, what is this type of used lens market price today? Sony lens can provide sharper image compare with Sigma and Tamron? pls advise.. Thanks.
Im not sure myself. I sold my SAL75300 d. Haahaha.
SAL55200 is sharper than SAL75300, but the focus motor speed is really slow
Have to be patient or else you miss your good shoot with it.
I think the SAL55200 is faster than the SAL75300.. I previously own the SAL55200 before.. Depends on what u compare with =P If you never play with any SSM or HSM lenses.. then I dont think the speed is slow for u =P

I used it once, was struggling to take a still shot
Every now and then when focusing it keeps focusing to the back, then to the front, and on and on and on~

Hmm.. unless u re using AF-C , i dont see a reason once its focus lock why would it tend to re-focus.. Or another case u might be in an area with dim light.. haha..

New thread eh. Anyone went to icity just now? are they having event over there? I was on my way there but when we reached the exit to icity there's a massive traffic jam. Cars queuing to get in it. I thought it was a fluke so decide to u turn and from the icity itself the traffic is stagnant . Decide to go back home then.
Whos going Pavilion tomorrow? I will be going to get bday present for my gf. Hehehe.

ahpingko: If it's underexposed, just increase the EV in camera. Also be aware of your WB - the shot of the dry box is a bit blueish/greenish.
fabianz03: Did you set a different WB instead of AWB? Since Auto will go back to AWB.
freaky_deity: The 18-200mm has a 62mm filter thread. 50mm F1.8 DT SAM has a 49mm filter thread. You can look at your lenses and see for yourself!
hafeez71: All the shots are a bit loose. Zoom in and pick a subject.
gizmo_pony: Would prefer her looking up but what the heck.
Kul | Mo0: I wonder too why this thread doesn't C&C automatically. If you don't tell people to, they won't. Personally I find the picture very corny.
noprob: Wah gayut. But it works.
porkchop: They took out the screw drive motor from the D40. However for enthusiast models the A700 and A850/A900 are lighter (I've posted about this before.)

according to the spec.. F58 able to detect & send AWB information to the camera... I not really too sure of what this means...
Is that mean if im shooting under a room full with tungsten light.. my flash colour will match the light without the need to use colour gel??? I have a feeling that it couldnt work that amazingly.. so what does it actually do?

Seem like latest version is more powerful Btw, have any used lens for sale?
Too many lens need to get, e.g. 50mm f1.4 prime lens, wide angle, macro lens for insect, 400mm prime lens for birding. Existing only have kit lens + old tamron 70-300mm, feel something is not enough.. so plan to update my lens.

long time not in here - hi to all alpha user! I'm newb, bought an alpha (a330) for at least 6 months back, occasionally used it.
Just wanna ask; what's should be my next buying? flash gun, lense, etc.?
I do some small research on SAM 50mm/f1.8. (yeah, because it's the cheapest one). it is a good lense? What's the major diff with f1.4 ?
Kindly advise
Regards,
Differences was ...
F1.4 has brighter stop down for sharp image and also it was much sharper in center image than F1.8 F1.4 is full frame compatible while F1.8 doesn't F1.8 has slightly larger macro magnification than F1.4 F1.4 is metal mount with hood while F1.8 is come with plastic mount without hood F1.8 has SAM with AF/MF switch but as ... it does noisy sound compare to F1.4

guys ah, normally what setting u all use for shooting a single object?..such as a flower or an toy model?..the AF area, using spot?..and metering mode using center?..how abt the AF?..using single AF or auto AF or continuous AF?
Well, depends on how much u want to frame it.. but based on what I think u re thinking.. normally I go for Spot metering or maybe Local.. metering is spot metering unless ur subject is bigger than what I think then i ll use center.. AF single would do find for me =D
hmmm... I feel being left behind la. Many already have more than 1 kit lens, macro lens, zoom lens, UWA lens, fish eye lens, prime F1.8 , F1.4 .... waaaa
me until now still using 1 lens... A550 + 1680Z kit lens
Some of us with old screw-driven Sigmas, the Sony 18-70mm F3.5-5.6 DT kit lens, and even my Tamron 200-400mm F5.6 LD 75DM, have experienced gear stripping - that is, the internal gear track of the lens has broken, usually a few gear teeth on a plastic track. What does this mean?
I'll open my gear-stripped Tamron 200-400mm to show you! I've sent this to repair before, but they said they were out of parts (this is the first generation of this lens, and the second-generation 200-400mm was then made obsolete with the Tamron 200-500mm F5-6.3.
The symptom of a gear-stripped lens is simple - mount the lens on camera, turn it on, and the camera will focus the lens to infinity... and it will start vibrating and making a loud whirring sound there. The reason is that the gear cannot catch onto the teeth because it is broken. You can then change your camera to manual focus, and then turn it towards close focus. Auto focus may work, but if you miss and the camera hunts, it will get stuck at infinity and vibrate again.
Note that this does not only happen to Alpha-mount lenses - Nikon F-mount lenses can get it too. Also, this was a good reason for Sony to dump the 18-70mm for the Sony 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 DT SAM which has a in-lens motor and would not face this problem. Likewise for the Sigma lenses with HSM - they would not face this problem.
Anyway, the A-mount is rather simple from the back - there is a black shield piece (in between the metal mount and the rear optics.) You need to remove this first.
Note that the information chip gets in the way - so you gotta pull it aside without breaking it. Here, the black shielding piece is removed. The black-colored metal piece with two silver screws close together, is the aperture lever, and the other black-colored metal piece with two widely spaced silver screws, opens and closes the aperture blades by transferring motion to the aperture pin.
After removing the metal mount, I could remove the gears - here, it changes the gear ratio to a much slower one. Note the large gear in the bottom-right - this is in contact with the gear track. The screw drive of the camera connects to the shaft in the top-right. All metal.
I then removed the rear lens collar bit, and viola! Here's the broken gear track. The broken teeth are in the top-right corner. The hole is where the aforementioned large gear transfers rotation to the lens.
In theory, I could drive a nail down where I have marked it in red, to prevent the lens from getting to infinity (and thus getting stuck on the broken gear teeth.) However, my later pictures will show you why it can't be done.
The screw drive shaft, and the aperture uh... pin.

I then removed the outer part, with the focal lengths marked. As it turns out, the gear track is on that big long plastic tube in the top-left!
If I had embedded a nail, it would have stopped the big long plastic tube from rotating.
I removed the big long plastic tube with the gear track. This is almost as long as the lens, when retracted! No wonder the gear track is not made of metal - if it was, it would make the lens a lot heavier, and the focusing would be slower due to the weight.
Slightly out of focus, and to the right, is a rod that grabs onto a pin that pulls the focusing group nearer or further, to focus.
My thumb is holding that pin. Here it is at minimum focus distance. If I let go, it will roll down, and focus on infinity.
Fully extended. The gold-plated track tells the chip what the focal length is.
I also peeled off the label on the focus ring, but I could not unscrew the screws (they were too tight) so I couldn't open it any further.
My initial plan was to stop the lens from going to infinity, but seeing how it wasn't possible (the focus ring would've been my last hope) I ended up reassembling the lens but leaving the screw drive shaft out. So there is a hole where the screw drive used to be, and the camera will try to spin its screw in there if in AF. Focus confirm, autoexposure and SteadyShot work fine. I just have to manually focus, but at least it doesn't have the annoying gear-stripped symptoms. Also, since there is no screw drive, manual focus is very, very smooth!

Getting left behind just because you don't own ALL the lenses will not make you the worse photographer in this world.
Getting left behind cause you waste most of your time dreaming when will you able to afford this, why some people can afford this, why are you still with kit lens this and that bla bla instead of using that precious time to improve on your shots will certainly make you one of the worst photographer in this world.

Owning a A900 wouldn't make your the best photographer compared to when you are owning a lousy 16-80 kit lens. To me, doesn't matter how many lenses you own or use. The main concern is it shouldn't be a measurement tool to determine whether you are left out in photography or not.

Why not?
It's not a constant aperture lens and the highest aperture available is only f3.5. It protrudes when it zooms. It's not weather sealed. It doesn't have SSM. It's pricy.
I will take CZ 24-70 f2.8 SSM anytime than this overpriced plastic feel 16-80.

Ah, but the 16-80mm is compact and very sharp. What can you get for RM2300 with the same aperture, compact size and focal length?
hazril: A bit magenta-ish (probably due to the roof or tablecloth.) Good candids but #2 and #4 might not fancy them being shot mid-sentence.
cassplayer: Nicely done, good color!
Banzai_san: No problem!
wingster: You were probably using a combination of settings that causes the flash to fire at a higher power. To make it easier for the flash, use a high ISO, bright aperture, slower shutter speed and use a diffuser pointing forwards if there is a high or dark ceiling.

Obviously you will feel your lens is superb cause you are owning it. It's a common mentality to many. Once you move up to a better one, you will then realize how good it is.

Which is why, IMO, I would rather stay with a Tammy 17-50mm f2.8 and take the leap straight to CZ 24-70 rather than go somewhere in the middle and yet still stuck with a non constant aperture lens like what my friend did.
The Tamron 17-50mm F2.8 is a lot chunkier, and it has its fair share of build quality problems also (loose front part). Some people prefer range over the average 1 stop of light.

I see ... but whats the meaning about diffuser pointing forwards?
The only thing I don't like about the CZ1680 is that, I don't know how to say it in the proper terms but when you tilt it toward the ground, the lens would just zoom out without realising.

Chunkier? I doubt that. Their size is almost the same and in fact, Tammy is lighter than CZ16-80. Tammy's build quality problem? I suppose it depends and not all are like that. Just like moo's 16-80. Certainly not all 16-80 are loose like that right?

Trading your 1680Z for Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 is a joke unless you don't mind losing to depreciation. Since you already bought your CZ1680, just live with it. I was only saying that given a choice, I would rather stick to a Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 rather than CZ1680 and make a bigger leap in future. Either that or I would rather stay with my SAL18-70 considering the CZ1680's price VS performance isn't that justifiable.

Kul | Mo0: To make matters more confusing, there is a Tamron 17-50mm F2.8 Di II New (without VC) for Nikon F-mount, just for the D40/D40x/D60/D3000. The VC version replaces this but retains the in-lens motor which, if you've heard the Canon version, is quite buzzy.
The VC version is bigger and heavier by 136 grams. You gotta put the moving VC element and the actuators in and those add weight.
SSS for all other lenses, of course!

Seriously I guess you don't know what yourself are mumbling about other than trying to barge in to provoke people. We were discussing about CZ1680 vs Tammy 17-50mm f2.8 and CZ24-70 and here you are going way off topic mentioning about people worrying about gear and than output? Also, I did mentioned 'given a choice, IMO' and I believe those clearly stated that it was my on opinion that I would prefer to upgrade to Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 and straight to CZ24-70 rather than going to CZ1680. Did I ask everyone to just jump blindly to CZ2470 and all other lenses are junk? I didn't right? Stop poking your nose and making a fool out of yourself when me and several others are discussing and comparing in a proper manner

as for me, I think output produced by SAL 16105 is better than CZ1680.. I do think that SAL16105 produce more vibrant color... but at that time I paired it with Sony a230.. I think its the diff of sensor... My CZ1680 is paired with Sony a550..
CZ has more visible vignetting which annoys me compare to 16105.. Sharpness? I think not a lot diff even when I zoom it 100%
Now I'm with no gear.. If I want to buy lens, I'll go for 16105 rather than CZ1680.. 1750 is not in list as it too short.. I would rather spend it on prime (30mm and 50mm).. Now still waiting for a7xx while funding for it..

It's not really that visible but if u notice closely there are slight vignette.. As u stop down your aperture, the vignette tends to disappear.. Nice choice of a filter for your lens =D

muahahaha!, i been using this 2 lens for almost a year already. my hands on experience? they are both GOOD! (sorry to my close friends, i dun like to tell all the gears i own, because i dun wan ppl to see me as gear freak or spoiled rich *******... i earn those gear from wedding gigs. i hid the CZ for wedding uses only, coz its the most expensive lens in my drybox, and i give high care towards it.)
everytime i use 1750F2.8, i wish i had the cz 80mm(which has nicer bokeh IMHO vs tammy@50F2.8)
everytime i use the cz, i wish i have the tamron F4 sharpness (yes, its DAMN sharper then CZ :/)
but both are great lens!!!!! if u were to ask me which to get? depend on how deep ur pocket?
why not tamron@F2.8? 99% of the time, i uses F4 to shoot, i dislike the softness on F2.8 on tamron.
so, my own opinion and my style, i shoot F4 always, so in CZ, F4.5 is hardly any differences.
viking, i hope u dont angry at me, but i wan to correct ur statement.
18-70 @18mm F3.5 HAS vigneting (see pic taken with kitlens) 17-50 @17mm F2.8-F3.5 HAS vigneting (has vigneting all the way till 35mm @F2.8) 16-80 @16mm F3.5 HAS vigneting (gone at F5.6)* 16-105 @ 16mm F3.5 HAS vigneting, (gone at F5.6)* 24-70 @ 24mm F2.8 (FF) HAS vigneting 24-70 @ 24mm F2.8 (crop) has, but unnoticeable unless u shoot sky.
*to me F5.6 has minima vignet that can be neglet, else, at F8 its definately Gone

haha..but i want to get a first hand lens lar..since my dad is ok with it..XD
Wao cool, then u should drop studio Zaloon a call and ask him for the best price. Sorry can't help much, am used to the prices in Penang.
ooo..how's the price in penang? zaloon seems quite far from my place..if my lens got problem..i should send back to tamron service centre?or i can send it to camera store?

I remember asking CNS like 1 year+ ago its at 1.35k but that was before the prices of yen increased.. so I assume its should be 1.45k now?
For warranty wise you can always go back to the shop and ask them to send for you or likewise go straight to tamron's sole distributor in Msia which is Futuromic. Best is u could call up Zaloon, might be pricey a lil bit , but as what the people in the forum say, good service and huge range of the lens series.

hmmm...difference also rm100 only right? haha...i think go amcorp buy la...thanks!
I still cant find the most satisfying setting for silhouette shots
for silhouette , its more like trial and error... but the most basic things to do is... make the exposure value negative... like.. increasing the shutter speed of what the camera had "suggested" to you.
cassplayer & yfchin2 : Playing with my bro's 180 + 50mm 1.8, using Manual mode + turn off DRO. Set the Aperture to how you would like the DOF to be , i choose f/8 and play with the shutter till u get what u want. Easier if you have Live View
Exif for the shot: Camera: Sony DSLR-A380 Exposure: 0.002 sec (1/640) Aperture: f/8.0 Focal Length: 50 mm ISO Speed: 200 Exposure Bias: 0 EV Flash: Off, Did not fire
Kul | Mo0 no lah , i need to sell my kidney for that
thinking to let go gadget. A300 + SAL18250 with hoya pro 1d + meike battery grip. what price do you guys think i can let go ?
Going for D90? Saw ur postings in that thread.. haha.. A300 body should be around Rm 1k depends on condition. SAL 18-250 should be around Rm 1.4k with the filter. Battery Grip I have no idea , shouldn't be more than RM 400 as original is around there

i think the battery grip would be cheap. new one is under RM300.
Hey guys wanna ask about an event telephoto lens ...
I was interested on 70-200 F2.8 lens for indoor events such as fashion show but doesn't meet the budget for Sony 70-200 SSM .... is there any good alternative?

sigma 70200 is very good...i think our bro Moo will suggest u later....
wingster : OMG this topic has been discussed over and over again. Tamron 70200 for better IQ but slower AF. Sigma 70200 for Faster AF with HSM but slightly lower IQ. Which for me, is unnoticeable.

get the 55-200mm lens la...its f4-5.6...for my newbie usage..i find it quite an acceptable budget lens..maybe other sifus here might beg to defer...

but two of them doesn't have focus limit as Sony G series does ... but is that important? I mean about the focus limit.... hence Tamron and Sigma doesn't have will have more slower AF times than Sony G 70-200 Lens?
This post has been edited by wingster: May 9 2010, 10:45 PM
I had the 70300G and never once used the AF lock. It's pretty hard to just get used to that button. So it's not a problem for me. Know what you wanna get in focus then you'll bot face any difficulties in focusing. (:

true, i tried play before, loving its fps, color and dynamic range here pic to compare D90 vs a350 ( i know d90 is way better than a350 , should be compared to a550 or a700 i think.. so juz to show pic )
no editing done, the color of D90 is way better, i donno if my fren tweak saturation but Dynamic Range is
[ D90 + Tamron18200 or 250 | 1/1000s | f/4.5 | ISO 250 ]

IMHO if indoor, you may not need the 200mm. I would expect the maximum reach around 135 to 150mm be good enough for indoor. Hence, Sigma 50-150mm f2.8 II EX DC HSM APO is also another option.

how bout 50-150 sigma...???price around sub 3k if not mistaken....
mastering89 : Eh, abit unfair to compare like that le. Both settings all different. The alpha uses f13, surely less light lo, hence resulting in slight underexposure.

yeah but I found I use often for 70mm,100mm, 135mm and 200mm for very close up shooting towards faces or brands like handbag, shoes and etc.

bro...the comparison pic setting is different...thts y the dynamic range is different... personally i felt tht D90 got too saturated color but a350 is natural..

I think the sigma will serve you okay, unless you love to look at ur photos at 100% crop. The softness at 200mm is not really noticeable , as I prefer the HSM over the screw driven Tamron.
Still, if budget is a concern, do consider the cheaper alternative of Tamron. But, I think the Sigma 50-150 is less than 3 k right? though its not meant for full frame.

Just a noobie shot, don't feel the so called softness la. LOL.
hmmm..in my noobie opinion ur shutter too fast already..the wheels also totally frozen...so the picture dont show that the car is moving..more like parking on the tarmac...
but my assignment for event shooting was pretty rushing xD so after the event in short ... I need to import the RAW file into my computer and then export all the picture and then handle for them straight away already

so obvious the dynamic range kicked in so much...(the greens from the tree)
A7/55 can easily get the same image. and seriously, how to compare a D90 which can buy 2 set of A300...

for indoor events, I doubt you'll need to stand soo far (say 80 or 100 meters) from your subject. Hence the suggestion that you will probably need the max reach to be 150mm. hence 50-150mm would fit your requirement IMHO.

Hmm by the way which brand has the 50-150 range? Sigma and Tokina only? is the IQ nice compare with the 70-200 F2.8 lenses?
Kul | Mo0 : ya i know , but is the d90 color produced original like that or tweaked? but i love the dynamic range and fps... even in dark with shutter speed 1/50 fps is better than my a350. (yes i cant compare, i know )

neo_lam : hehe probably will stick to alpha, got nice people in alpha. Also not so many alpha users makes me feel special probably i would get complete set (need flash and VG first before thinking of change body)
mastering89: Nice! Now only if it was out of focus a bit to look like the background... the D90 shot is overexposed by 1/3rd of a stop (from the EXIF) and the umbrella has blown highlights.
The Alphas tend to save highlights when metering, hence you can still make out detail in the umbrella. The rest is just weaker DRO+ compared to ADL set to High. On the A450-A900 you can use DRO Level 5 to get the same effect of brighter midtones.
I have edited your A350 shot:
I pulled up the midtones to simulate ADL/DRO Level 5. Notice that the umbrella's highlights are still there.
Nice one on the bullet train!
fansoption: For #2 and #3 you still need to pick one subject.
wingster: The Tokina 50-135mm F2.8 is not in A-mount but it's okay since they haven't gotten round to making in-lens motors for A-mount. The Sigma 50-150mm F2.8 with HSM would be more appealing.

well, sadly, seriously, the A350 is to VS D60 and D3/5k ler... u cant take it to vs D90...
its like i go nikon group and take their D60/3/5k to VS the A550 ler... that is plain ignorance. dont do that. (but that will poison a lot of D60/3/5k user to the orange side LOL)
@cassplayer nice shot wei bro!! personally i like those shots where we can see those advertisements which are blurred...then u can get the feel of the sports car 'flying' past..

albnok : oh, thank you... i seriously need learn basic post editing. now my shots juz edit use picasa or PS downloaded PS action. the train actually a miniature one at Tobu World Square
DRO in a350 is juz like adding noise only, not that much difference DRO+, DRO .
ieR : haha i know. i saw a700 body at japan selling only 49000 yen = rm 1800 if only i have more $$ at that time
hazril: That is exactly right! I loved the sunny blue skies of Kuching and the many pockets of green!
Kul | Mo0: DRO Level 5 only looks bad when you use it on a person who is in deep shadow. If you are in such a situation, use DRO Level 5 and increase your EV so that the faces are brightened. Supposing:
You can try this quite quickly - DRO Level 5, EV 0, and then DRO Level 5, EV +3. Major difference in the tonality. Let's say:
Sky = nearly highlight Face = shadow Black surface = dark shadow DRO works on shadows, pulling it up. This is quite like HDR minus the large radius unsharp mask.
If you did say +1 EV:
Sky = highlight Face = midtone Black surface = shadow DRO pulls only the shadow and doesn't affect the face that much.
If you use DxO Optics Pro for example, and you first set DxO Fill Light to Strong 150%, then you pull the EV up, you can see a big difference in how the face tones are affected.
Faces with DRO Level 5:
mastering89: This is the best tutorial you can read, about bringing up your midtones and how to mask them:
kevinwcw : no lah, used one.. a700 + 16105 = 80k yen a550 (used) = 59k yen
I wanna ask about DRO in a550 and above. i attend sony basic photography b4 and Mr John show slides.
how exactly is DRO level ++ works like if in this pic, does it light up all through out the image or just the dark area?? for example im taking picture of someone with background of like this image (sunset or sunrise). does it blow off the sunset/sunrise part , overexpose or juz correct one.. or should i still need flash ?? ~please ignore the dusts
hey where can i find T-shirt like that? (alphanatics? or custom made ) all i found was either plain, N's or C's

hmm just research about the Sigma 50-150mm.... well I found that 50-150 wasn't so famous ... but from certain review, it has a good sharpness image from 50~100mm likewise is more smaller + lighter and also can get it around RM2500~2700 while 70-200 HSM is around RM3xxx .... well a good consider about it xD

i think DRO cannot pull out the details for such silhouette shot....
wingster: The difference in weight between the 50-150mm and the 70-200mm F2.8 is a lot! I can't wait for somebody to take the plunge and get this.
mastering89: DRO only brightens the shadows (read my reply to Kul | Mo0.)
DRO correctly exposes the highlights (meaning, without overexposing, unlike the Nikon D80 onwards, which has a tendency to make blacks become gray!) Everything else is brightened accordingly.

@epito refer first page price should at that range
@zstan with proper lightning, kit lens also produce very nice colour/sharpness, if you go alpha workshop before, you will notice some of the photo is taken with sal1870
zstan : It definitely creates sharp images if you really know how to use your lens paired with your body. You always say you using kitlens only, and it sucks and stuffs. So just letting you know la.
@moo haha...quite true..actually pretty much depends on the settings used & timing & composition as well...quite evident between the universal studios shot and wonka's flowers and sunset..both using kitlens...but wonka's pics got this 'wow' factor while the theme park shot was rather.....erm...'normal' to me? still finding what wonders u were refering too... my noobie opinion lar....=)
