No need account can register for Citibank card. (Off topic) Actually if you want to open an bank account in Citibank, the bank need to be "comfortable" with you first. Eg. If you have a credit card with them for several years then it helps but if you have no previous history with Citibank and want to open an account with them ... probably the bank will say no.

Actually the local banks also do this to you but you don't realize it or see it so much.
Historically >90% of the population who has a Citibank card does not have an account with them. Go back to early 2000 or before that ... Citibank was "THE Card" to have. Local banks doesn't stand a chance against them. And I believe they still are the largest card issuer in Malaysia.

That is so true. However, it seems that Citibank Malaysia is the only Citigroup unit to have such an absurb practice. Citibank in all other countries allow you to open an account with them straight away even if you have no previous banking relationship with Citibank.

Ahhhh HSBC  mad.gif

I receive SMS from them that my card was sent on 29th , says if not received in 1 week , to call.

So I wait a week, call them - they tell me that card is on the way. Today still no card, so I called again, now they told me the card was already signed for on 29th  vmad.gif  Gave me name and IC number of person who signed for it , I guess it might be one of the security guards at the condo here, but then they should have put the card in my post box.

Hope I don't have to re-order and wait again  mad.gif

So it was not HSBC fault. It was the incompetency of Pos Laju.

Actually it was a bit different with HSBC. Unlike Citibank which requires you to have a previous or existing banking relationship with them, HSBC required you to get an introducer before you can open an account with them even if you only intend to open a basic saving account. Anyway, they no longer do so since at least 2005. Anyone can now just walk-in and open an account with them and your ATM card will be issued to you right away. It's that easy ! Citibank on the other hand, will ask you to go home and wait for someone to call you in the next few days and they will mail your ATM card to your correspondence address. If they reject your request to open an account with them, you will just receive a letter from them and no one will call you.

may I know what is the best/fastest way to cancel a credit card?

There's a CC cancellation letter sample shown on the first page of this forum. Do I need to send that letter via snail mail or can I do it via email?

Oh. So I can just call in and cancel that card? That's very good

How do they confirm the cancellation? Can I request that they send me a notification to prove that the cc has been canceled?

Thanks

We caution you that not all banks accept cancellation over the phone. (e.g HSBC accept over the phone cancellation)
I still prefer using letter + fax as the fax provides a time/date stamp that your phone call would not be able to provide. So in the event the cancellation is not done / problems materialize, you have documented proof of when you sent in that cancellation.

If you have online banking and linked to your card ... use that as an indicator that your card has been cancelled or not.

The bank will say who are you to request for the notification that the cc has been cancelled. Probably 1 or 2 banks will be able to (auto) generate this letter. You could ask CS and they will say noted down your request but whether the letter will be generated is another. These letters have the banks letterhead and of course issuance will be controlled - they won't just create a letter just for you alone. Like I said .... who are you to the bank.

I'm stating an honest remark.

Thanks for the advice. I guess I'll just give them a call and ask what's the most appropriate method.
