Malaysian issued credit card ? Practically none.

or alternatively, maybe AMEX also a great choice for western country
It is not recommended to use your AMEX overseas due to the high admin fee.

but the rewards point quite high wo, plus the there are high acceptance of AMEX
Not really. VISA and MasterCard have better acceptance in the US. AMEX is accepted mostly in those really big stores, just like here in Malaysia.

Yes. You can get 2x MR for each Ringgit charged but it is not worth it unless you are on a company trip and everything charged to your AMEX can later be claimed from your company.

QUOTE(shakiraa @ May 7 2010, 12:28 AM)
can educate me about this admin fee thing? i will get charged for each purchase?

You can refer to the first post of this thread. There is a detailed list of admin fee charged by various banks in Malaysia for overseas transactions.

Alliance Bank is so far the only bank that doesn't impose any admin fee for overseas transactions and you get 2x Timeless Points.

Not a big player. Same reason why you hardly see people asking about RHB Bank credit card.

If you have a premier account from HSBC Malaysia, it will be easier to get a HSBC cc in Singapore if you work there.
He doesn't need to have a job there in Singapore to get a HSBC Singapore credit card if he already is a HSBC Malaysia Premier customer. He can just request to open a Premier account in Singapore and tell them he wants the HSBC Singapore Premier MasterCard too. Just that easy biggrin.gif I know many HSBC USA Premier clients do this ... to get HSBC Canada Premier MasterCard.

any bank to recommend? so far in my mind is alliancebank, publicbank and maybank
Depends on what you look for from your credit card. If you like to buy things in installment, then you should go for Maybank or Public Bank. If you want a card that gives you the best rewards, then it's Alliance Bank as it has the highest cash back system.

CIMB Petronas Mastercard does not give any points for any transactions.. only rebates.. I canceled mine already as I found it useless..
How was it useless ? It works more or less the same as their generic MasterCard, except that one gives you bonus points which you can later redeem for shopping vouchers, gifts etc. while the other one gives you instant cash rebate. The promotional rebates (10% off at ISETAN, 5% off at Guardian etc.) also apply to both card types.

QUOTE(krazee350 @ May 11 2010, 06:38 PM)
DA platinum minimum is 30k
No longer so. Someone here got a pre-approved DA Platinum and the credit limit is comparable to the low-end Gold card.

The CIMB Bank World MasterCard and CIMB Bank VISA Infinite credit line starts from RM100,000. Direct Access's one should be lower than RM100,000.

Probably will try to apply for SG debit card first. Unless I cannot get any SG DC or CC then only consider to get Alliance CC. My income is less than 40k so all those platinum or higher end CCs are out of my reach tongue.gif

QUOTE(Shinichi @ May 12 2010, 02:35 AM)
Thanks for the suggestion. Debit Card is another option for me too icon_idea.gif Gonna do some research for cash rebates cards when I have the time.
You definitely are eligible for a debit card. You really should consider DBS VISA debit card. It comes with no annual fee with free unlimited usage of DBS/POSB ATM and it can be used online. It also comes with a 0.3% cash back.

Attached Image

Another good debit card in Singapore is the Citibank VISA debit card. It can be linked only to your checking account. The minimum balance fee is on the high site. If i'm not mistaken, you need to keep at least SG$2,000 to avoid being slapped by the account maintenance fee which is charged monthly.

QUOTE(Shinichi @ May 12 2010, 02:35 AM)
Anyway, I'm one of the person who's not willing to pay for RM2 IBG fees. It all depends on how we organize our schedule & activities, we might save $ and time.

If you bank with Citibank or Standard Chartered, the MEPS IBG fee is only RM0.50/transfer. And if you have a HSBC Premier checking or HSBC PowerVantage checking account, MEPS IBG transfer is totally free !

I cancelled my HSBC recently because twice they replace my card (first time because I lost my card, second time because my card expired). Both times, I waited weeks and weeks for it. Call them numerous times, and they asked me to be patient because they're sending by normal mail. The last time I called, I asked them "What kind of 'normal mail' that need to wait for more than 4 weeks?!" Did some search online and found that I'm not the only one having this problem with them.

Just recently i requested for card replacement for both my VISA and MasterCard inside their branch office and i got it through Poslaju just a week later. Guess i was the lucky one biggrin.gif

QUOTE(fraulein @ May 12 2010, 06:17 PM)
Anyway, back to the topic, I'm looking for a new CC to apply now and wonder what are the good options. I don't need much credit limit but I'm concern about the CC provider's security (less fraud, duplicate cases etc..), overseas recognition & most importantly a 24 hours accesible call center (RHB sux at this).
Overseas brand recognition is not very important really. Do you know about a credit card from Capital One ? I assume no right ? It is a smallish bank in the US but one of the largest credit card issuers there. It is so famous because it is the only bank that do not impose a single admin fee for overseas usage of their cards while many other banks such as Bank of America, Chase, Citibank etc. all charge 3% admin fee for overseas use. Despite being a small regional bank in the States, Capital One credit card users have no problem using their cards overseas.

As for banks with responsive call center, HSBC is one but you don't like them. May be you should try Citibank ?

They probably block your card or the line timed out. Usually it is only the VISA and MasterCard sign matters.

I'm not aware of the admin fees for overseas though. Applicable to all swipes in overseas? How about hotel reservation through overseas websites?
All charged made in any other currencies other than MYR will be subjected to the admin fee. You can refer to the detailed list of admin fee charged by various banks in Malaysia in the first post of this thread.

you sure other countries provide credit card?
i thk it's all debit card
hihihehe is right. Certain countries do provide credit card to students without the need of submitting any proof of income, checking your savings account or have an existing credit score history. These countries are USA, UK, Canada and Australia.

Not too familiar with UK, Canada and Australia but in USA, any students can easily get a credit card. The credit card comes with extremely low credit line. It can be as low as only US$100 (no joke !). But most students do get approved for a credit card with US$300. This student credit card is meant for them to build their credit history so that it'd be easier for them to get a credit card when they finally out go to work with a real job.

What's your opinion of the RM50 service tax on the credit card? Do you think the Government will repeal this charge in the coming budget 2011?
I pray everyday that they will finally come to their senses and scrap it in the coming budget presentation. This credit card tax is the joke of the century. Way to go Malaysia ! Yet another first for Malaysia ! Yiihaa !

By the way guys, i just realized there actually are additional perks for using a Platinum card. Many have been arguing that it is all plastic and i used to think the same way too. There actually is a difference. It's kind of rare though.

I just found out that VISA has this ongoing promotion with Eraman Flying Emporium Chocolate shop at KLIA. All Platinum VISA cardholders will be entitled for 10% discount while Gold VISA cardholders get 5% off. Classic VISA cardholders unfortunately get nothing.

Haha... Maybe???

Can be World Mastercard or Ultima, just wait and see........
Ultima is highly unlikely. May be World MasterCard or VISA Signature. The current Citibank Singapore Dividend credit card is offered in either World MasterCard or VISA Signature.

At the moment, only Citibank Hong Kong and Citibank Singapore issue the VISA Ultima credit card. Not too sure what the requirements are in Hong Kong but in Singapore, it is issued as a complimentary credit card to their Citigold Private Clients. One can be a Citigold Private Client in Citibank Singapore or Citibank Hong Kong with at least US$1 Million of deposit up to US$10 Million.
