QUOTE(Moogle Stiltzkin @ Jun 21 2010, 11:06 PM) ESR-9850. Stock firmware good and performance better then the other 2. I notice that ESR-9850 comes with the function of port bandwidth limit right? Is that available on wndr3700?Much cheaper than the other 2 :/ Higher price doesn't mean better. and if your all not expert just use stock firmware not third party cause youll just end up bricking your router. If you require wireless client mode meaning the router can access other wireless access points, then yes get either the netgear or asus, but your gonna have to install third party like dd-wrt or tomato teddy bear carefully Been reading quite a few review and the netgear website, none of them mention this. QUOTE(guitar8888 @ Jun 22 2010, 12:27 AM) Hello people! Misleading statement. There's a 4 port D-Link router included.Noob question incoming!! Seen in unifi website : "Our Residential Gateway is only compatible with computers that are wireless enabled. If you do not have a wireless-enabled computer, you may be able to upgrade your computer by purchasing our wireless USB adaptor." Does this mean that Unifi will be running only using wifi and not through a cable? Lol. Thank you! |

Good news to residents/businesses in Selayang-Pasar Borong area, TM sub cons are deploying their cables in this area at the moment. Just spoke to the contractor. They said they just started and will take quite a while to complete.
Hurray, at least they are deploying already ! |

Misleading statement. There's a 4 port D-Link router included. Tomato on the other hand is said to have very good working qos. I was testing the ESR-9850 qos bandwidth allocation. So far still testing so i can't comment whether it works good or not :/ Anyway, i was told i can upgrade my 4mb to unifi no problem. But they say cannot terminate 4mb until end of this month because i subscribed to it 3 months back. But i specifically told them i upgrade from 4mb, to unifi, not as if i am keeping 4mb + unifi together. So why are they saying have to wait till the end of the month to cancel it? Got My Unifi Installed today....VIP 5 Package.
Pretty much satisfied on the Unifi installer....Came on time...Prompt installation. No problems on the service and quite satisfied with the speed...Dloaded a 2.6Gb Client less then 4 hours....that took me ages to dload last 1MB line i used... My Configuration is: (Unifi Wireless Router) > Connect via wireless to (My Wired & Wirelss Router) < 2 Computers Connected to that router via Lan Cable This post has been edited by angelbratz: Jun 23 2010, 03:10 AM |

Finally got my VIP10 yesterday... I expected 2 or 3 ppl but instead a whole army of TM personnel came to my house, and most of them were sent for training purposes apparently. Anyway, the extra manpower seemed to help since it was all done in about 2 hours.
As expected, they refused to give me the router and PPPoE passwords, although the guy said it was a "temporary" measure. Thankfully, he was kind enough to spell out loudly the router password to his co-worker... while I was there! I eventually managed to fish out the PPPoE password with Wireshark. Here's a question for Rizvan: I'm currently using my own custom router by following ur instructions, and everything's working fine except that I can't access the DIR-615 configuration page anymore (can't even ping the router)... is this normal? Is it possible to access the page without directly connecting to the router? Oh, and one more thing in case nobody has mentiond it: IPTV sucks. |

Anyway, the extra manpower seemed to help since it was all done in about 2 hours. If you've wired port 3 of the DIR-615 into your own router's WAN port, no PC connected to your own router will be able to see/ping the DIR-615. In order to access the DIR-615, you'll have to wire your PC directly into LAN port 1 or LAN port 2 of the DIR-615. That's the only way. If you don't want to wire it directly, you can enable the wifi on your DIR-615 so you can connect to it via wireless for configuration purposes As expected, they refused to give me the router and PPPoE passwords, although the guy said it was a "temporary" measure. My windows 7 Dell XPS Studio 9100 having some issue with DIR-615 (Firmware 7.0)
Here's my setup : DiR-615 ---> pc1-Win7 | pc2-WinVista | XB360 | pc3-win7 (Dell 1525 Wireless-N PCIe) All are connected to Unifi w/o any issue except pc3-win7 with Dell 1525 Wireless-N PCIe. I can connect to the wireless fine, IP all obtained successfully. The strangest thing is that i can never access the internet. In Network & sharing center, it has the notification "No internet access" I tried pinging 192.168.0.1, request timed out and sometimes unreachable. Use the auto diagnostic tool and it says DNS is not responding. I've also tried setting the IP manually, update the wifi-adapter's driver....same result. I even went all the way to uninstall the mcafee firewall and disable the windows firewall, no dice. This post has been edited by PrivateJohn: Jun 23 2010, 08:41 AM |

With that pc3-win7, does a direct cat5 cable work? If it does, it's probably an issue with the wireless connection seeing as you can't even ping 192.168.0.1. Check the wireless security settings and make sure you're using the correct wifi key. EDIT: Sorry, if you can obtain an IP it means DHCP is working fine.. so your security settings are probably correct. No idea though, try out the direct cable.. if that works then disable your wifi security + change the network name and try it on the PC through wireless :3 @Lucas 2x router access passwords (admin and secondary admin).. 5 digit PIN number for the VOIP line (no idea what its for). There's one things keep puzzle me which I wonder why replacing DIR-615 with other similar router is so troublesome......isn't the DIR-615 just a normal wireless router? Is it because this DIR-615 already been special mod by TM?

Yes, it's a modded router with VLAN tagging capability. Most home routers do not support this and none of them support multiple VLANs which is required for the IPTV + Internet to be used at the same time.
Added on June 23, 2010, 11:40 amLol, it seems that every month I discover a new major Unifi router screw up. 23 June 2010 -- major Unifi router exploit #2 ![]() This is a source code dump of tools_system.php, the script that allows you to manage your configuration backups in the Unifi DIR-615. Notice how this particular page has a 'require("/www/model/__admin_check.php");' as an authentication measure but the command that activates the backup download doesn't? In other words, anyone can just access http://your.unifi.router.ip/config.bin from the LAN or http://your.unifi.router.ip:8080/config.bin from the WAN (if you have remote management enabled) and download your entire settings file. After that, your config.bin can be applied on his own router and your PPPoE user/pass combination along with the admin/operator account password combination can be extracted from it directly. This is more of a dLink firmware programming fail but it's really TM's fault for putting so much trust in them that a simple user/pass combination will protect your router from hackers. Yeah, I honestly wish TM the best of luck trying to implement their download quota. This is what happens when you force everyone to use a stupid closed router platform and assume its secure simply because some company made it for you.
