Ok i did another test. The unifi has fully recovered as the connections are stable.

Web surfing is now silky smooth even without qos like it was before the slowdown biggrin.gif

You can see my pc speeds to the bottom right. Running xdcc mirc and utorrent download same time biggrin.gif

@5w33

I'd run test on speedtest but the result seem to be unreliable :/ so i didn't. Instead i just utorrent, jdownloader and xdcc mirc to show real time performance doh.gif u can see the flags where the uploader location is from to give a good idea regarding international speed.

Most of the media is in US or Europe :/ whu download from china ?? Baidu?? i don't use that doh.gif

Not download la, I need quick load time for surf only. smile.gif
Yep, speedtest is not really accurate for unifi, I got 60ms 38MB DL/ 20MB UL from Hong Kong. Seems impossible. sweat.gif

I'm using firefox mozilla plugin fasterfox set to turbo charged meaning it uses many connections to boost your load time.

You should try that.

You can use your own router by using Riv's method by changing the DIR-615 to a switch that only does vlan tagging.

Or you can totally replace the DIR-615 with a vlan capable switch such as...
The RB250GS which is cheap, good and has all the functionality for vlan you need, and extras like bandwidth QOS if you require that.

There are screen shots of the SWOS it's web interface uses here

To those who experiencing Wifi issue with TM DIR-615:
Not sure this would work for you all, but I decrease the transmitting power to 50% and so far the router did not give me any problem with both wireless and wired connection for the pass 3 days 24x7. Just my 2 cents...

Thanks for sharing.

May you elaborate more on what you mean by "experiencing Wifi issue"?

Myself, i have been experiencing sudden disconnection from wireless connection, and reconnecting the wireless connection directly is not possible, have to restart the laptop, then reconnect it back.

My wired connection so far is ok, jst having problem on wireless. If the problem still persist, i may wanna try out your method by decreasing the transmitting power to 50%.

I used to have the router hang up and wireless disconnection issue, now seems to be ok so far...

Anyway, maybe not many of you watch the IPTV, but is anyone having problem today for the IPTV? It gave some error code and message about contact service provider..?

Thanks.

I also have similar issues... sometimes hangs frequently and cannot connect back.
Just changed power to 50%... let's see how.

If that does work,it may imply that that device has some overheat issues.By reducing the transmission,it actually reduces the consumption power and so reduces the heat.

hi rizvanrp,

first of all thanks very much for your guide, i managed to configure a vlan bridge following your instructions, it works very well and started using my own router di624. the iptv side also works fine, tested my link using unifi;s speed test and also one below, it seems to be consistent.

user posted image

can you advise me with a problem i seem to be having, my current config:

fiberhome -> dir615 -> myrouter -> notebook. (this works well and is how i used to test my link above)

previously on my streamyx i had been using a switch dlink dgs1008d (@moogle i think you hv same switch ?) with no problems for about a month but when i connect it as follows to share connection

fiberhome -> dir615 -> myrouter624 -> SW/1008D -> notebook

the unifi speedtest stops and hangs when testing of upload, download works fine. and also speed of link degrades significantly. any idea or suggestions on why this might be ? my di624 is an older router no gigabit but i've used it previously with the 1008 switch no problems before ? just puzzled seems to only happen the minute i plug the switch in. dead switch ?

many thanks in adv

Hi All,

If I want to replace the dir615 completely, can I use the the NETGEAR WNDR3700 RangeMax Dual Band Wireless-N Gigabit Router? I understand I need a VLAN capable switch, does this Netgear router have that function?

Also, is the setup kind of straight forward for the total replacement of dir615? I can't find any setup guide for this configuration.....maybe someone can point it to me :-)

I went to that site already but I didn't see any guide on the setup to totally replace the dir615, unless i missed something.......the guide is more on how to setup dir615 as VLAN bridging......

This model doesn't support VLAN. It might pass vlan packets but that's it. You could try Buffalo WZR-HP-300NH, comes with DD-WRT by default and has VLAN support. If you start back to say, page 30 onwards there should be a few guides on setting this up with DD-WRT if you decide to use this.

either buy a router that does vlan based ports (rare), or buy a cheap switch that is vlan port based such as the new RB250GS and then use any router with it which doesn't necessarily even need vlan, this way you can use whatever router you want without having to worry about vlan capability as your switch is doing that already.

As for whether tomato can do vlan tagging, from what i heard some of the dd-wrt supported routers like the Buffalo can, but how to set it up i am not sure, but Riv knows hmm.gif

wow, sounds like quite troublesome......if I'm going to use the dir615 as VLAN bridge, NETGEAR WNDR3700 should be able to use as my wireless router link to dir615, right? In this case, no need VLAN capable router, right?
