wow, sounds like quite troublesome......if I'm going to use the dir615 as VLAN bridge, NETGEAR WNDR3700 should be able to use as my wireless router link to dir615, right? In this case, no need VLAN capable router, right?

Correct. This would be the more trivial option.

hi guys, i have just installed unifi VIP5 package on Saturday afternoon. ever since then, the wifi connection has been on and off intermittently (as in like connected to the internet for a while, then disconnected a few seconds then connected back again) and this happens all the time.

i'm living in a condo in pj. is there anything wrong with the connection ? other than that, the hypptv is smooth all the time.

need some advice here!

thanks

Added on June 21, 2010, 12:29 pmand i forgot the mention, the connection is not up to my expectation at all! using the TM net speedtest, average dl speed is only about 2mb plus.

downloading of torrents only about 1++k /sec.

Login to your DIR-615 and set your wifi mode to B/G only. Also try lowering the TX power a little. Someone here has done that and reported saying his wifi connection is now stable. Apart from that, try using wired connection to test your speed with uTorrent and/or direct download(mirrors sites). Don't rely on speedtest.net..the speeds fluctuate inconsistently.

Hi Mox123, may i know where are you getting the WNDR3700 and what's the price ?
I am interested to get one but was quoted RM 555. Also there is a new WNDR37AV Listed on Netgear website, so i might be waiting for that.
Thanks.

If people use google to look for these things before they ask here.

Seriously, many of the questions have been answered including where to buy those routers. Not long while ago there was even a WNDR3700 sale :/ but you all miss cause you couldn't google.

Use the lowyat search or google search next time doh.gif

Seriously, I don't think there's anything wrong to ask questions which have been asked thousand of time.......after all this is a community forum which open to help each other. If I post question, I hope to get some quick response and if someone kind enough to answer me, it'll make my day.......if not, I won't blame because I know that it's most likely have been answered already, then I will have to spend more time to "GOOGLE" it.........And seriously too, if you feel that I'm those kind of idiot just want to ask fast question and get fast response without doing much homework, you can just ignore me, no point for posting above response .......

Fair enuff and i respect your opinion.

Well suffice to say i think a moderator should at least sticky a new thread to explain riv's unifi's fix :/ so we can keep the repeats to a minimum.

Too many repeat questions :/

I recommend you google rt-n16 vs wndr3700 because they are very close in terms of pricing performance. I prefer the RT-n16 because can use teddy bear tomato and has more max simultaneous connections (50,000) vs the wndr3700 (4000)

Or if you don't mind sacrificing third party firmware support for awesome performance, you can get ESR-9850 (50,000 msc) like what i did.

Using the ESR-9850 to be honest, i wouldn't have mind getting RT-N16 for third party support cauz they have some neato features i could use hmm.gif

Hey bro, no worry. Sometime i ask some noob question too, i am sure we all do sometime.
WNDR3700 is not without its short coming, it definitely is not the "Ultimate" Simultaneous Dual Band Router if that is what you are looking for, but according to smallnetbuilder.com it is one of the better one out there, of course at a price. If you are not looking for Simultaneous Dual Band then you will have more choices.

I think the reason retail store do not carry it is because NetGear is not really into Retail Market in Malaysia and RM 535 for a consumer grade router is really a bit expensive, not much of people is willing to pay such price for a router when competitive product is much less than RM 400 such as the D-Link DIR-825, not to mention those cheap Draft n router such as D-Link DIR-615 can be had for less than RM 150.

Moogle Stiltzkin, thanks for the input, but sometime it is not just the max simultaneous connections that matters, there is a lot more in a router that needs to be taken into consideration, if you look at smallnetbuilder.net review, WNDR3700 is stlll the reference model for its category and sometime people might be looking at a specific feature such as simultaneous dual band, gigabit LAN, strong wireless signal or fast wireless transfer speed. Just my 2 cents worth.

I totally agree :/

the RT-n16 throughput not as good as the wndr3700 for starters. Both of them don't even match the ESR9850.

It's these things like features and performance you weigh and decide which suits you better :]

Right now dlink just announced a 450mb wireless n router. Trendnet also already has a 450mb wireless n router available as well. I personally wasn't too bothered by that because i use wireless sparingly :] could be important for others though.

Thanks all for the input......suddenly, it becomes so much choices.....maybe I shd state down my requirement......the router I'm looking is actually for small office use (<5 persons). And it's more for office networking + internet (off-course not so much on p2p, streaming or gaming things). I would like to look for something which is easy to setup, not too much of customization or configuration to do (because no expert in my office tongue.gif).

I choose the Netgear is because saw some reviews on it and sounds pretty reliable too......but most important is to solve the intermittent problem from the dir615 :-(

Btw, i was given the budget to get something not more than RM700 ;-)

ESR-9850. Stock firmware good and performance better then the other 2.

Much cheaper than the other 2 :/

Higher price doesn't mean better. and if your all not expert just use stock firmware not third party cause youll just end up bricking your router.

If you require wireless client mode meaning the router can access other wireless access points, then yes get either the netgear or asus, but your gonna have to install third party like dd-wrt or tomato teddy bear carefully tongue.gif

Hello people!

Noob question incoming!!

Seen in unifi website :

"Our Residential Gateway is only compatible with computers that are wireless enabled. If you do not have a wireless-enabled computer, you may be able to upgrade your computer by purchasing our wireless USB adaptor."

Does this mean that Unifi will be running only using wifi and not through a cable?

Lol.

Thank you!
