brushes comes in different shape and sizes. the sizes is identified by a number, the bigger the number the bigger the size.
The most common for modellings are round and flat. The paint brush sizes depends on the sizes of model your working on. If you need a fine detail on a very small scale model, obviously you're gonna need a very fine brush.

defiantly will not be as strong as plastic. it will probably be good for a substitute, but don't expect it to be as good as plastic. instead of recasting, why not just glue it back?
*
Shauno,

Regarding about putties, I know there are three kind of them.
1) basic putty - apply on the surface. Lacquer based.
2) polyester putty - apply on the surface and small gap. Easy to be sand.
3) epoxy putty - apply on the huge gap. Difficult to be sand.

I motice many modelers are using resin for recasting. So, may I ask, can we apply resin (Wave brand, etc) on plastic model kit surface instead of putty? Will resin melt plastic model kit completely? Thank you.

Cheers,

err i want to ask simple question, besides thinner for certain paint like tamiya enamel thinner for tamiya enamael paint, do it has any alternative? because using tamiya thinner for air brushing is quite expensive
moreover, what paint do people here recommend for silver paint? mr hobby?
*
for enamel paint, alternative is zippo fluid but have to be careful when rubbing enamel paints off with zippo will cause color fade.
As for thinner, it's the only choice. Hobby thinner is the most suitable to mix with hobby paints. It is expensive than industrial thinner but how much do you use it. i bought 1 litle hobby thinner and lasted me like 2-3 years.
Of course when you clean your AB equipment, you use industrial thinner not hobby thinner.
Silver colors, either mr hobby paints or gaia's paint. Both are good enough

1) basic putty to cover sink holes/seam lines(not recommended for huge gaps)
2) polyester putty main purpose is for reshaping your parts not fill in small gaps and yes, it's easy to sand but very bad for health when inhale the "dust" so best wear a mask when sanding
3) epoxy putty is also for reshaping and filling big holes. It's more durable. It is hard to sand when it hardens, that is why usually we sand or shape it when it's "half" dry.

All of this can do reshaping, filling, etc. It's just that see which suits your situation or what you wanna do with it

Resin is for recasting and only recasting AND water effects(look like liquid form) and no it wont melt on the kit with minimal amount. smile.gif

got a stupid question.. as far as i know, to achieve glossy/metallic/candy coating, i have to have a base coat of black, then metallic silver, then a clear coat of the color i want as the last layer.. but how about if i want a metallic sheen for black? would just gloss coating it work after spraying black? or is there a way where i can make the black look a bit better, glossier..?

metallic sheen would involve actually adding metallic particles.. to be clear, metallic doesn't mean gloss. a high gloss kit can be a non metallic, and likewise metallic can be matte also..

so, if you want a metallic finish, my guess is maybe try to add some silver to the black, but a small amount, like maybe 9:1 black to silver, just for the metallic particles. otherwise, if you just want a high gloss finish, just finish off with a gloss coat and polish if you want to.

QUOTE(sekngucing @ Apr 7 2013, 10:05 PM)
how about to get titanium finish like the unicorn gundam titanium finish? how?
-is it >> gloss black>> flat white>>clear white???
*
#1, black undercoat is for the metallic finish to look nicer. if you're not doing a metallic coat, don't use a black base. especially if you're gonna go over it with white.
#2, if you wanna do titanium finish unicorn, easiest is perhaps a silver.
#3, there is no such thing as clear white.. just clear

ah, that does make things much clearer.. well i didn't actually mean adding metallic particles though, just as good as black can get.. want to make my Blitz really stand out but it's mostly black so i find that a bit troublesome.. i suppose i'll have to go with the gloss then polish then.. thanks a lot!

although maybe i'll dust off the ol airbrush and give the silver and black combination a go

Guys i have few questions:

1.which enamel paint & thinner is best used for panel lines on arcylic paint? will they stain the arcylic paint? Available tru local sellers of course.

2.for glossy finishing, must i use all 3 tamiya compound or i can skip the fine, or do i need the finish compound if i plan to use polisher/wax?

3.do polisher/wax react with arcylic gloss top coat, like will the coat absorb the fluid & turn dull?

4.what is the latest metal colors out there? looking for chrome & gold but still cannot find the perfect one.
