actually, if you hentam retarder, there will be problems when the paint starts to flow.. :S

best is airbrush, since you have 1/48 scale.. handpainting would be quite challenging.. if not airbrush, spraycans loh..
*
secret to brush painting is not just retarder... most beginners will hand painted their models regardless of what the model scale are... 1/48 can be big if the subject is an A-10 or F-14 etc...

when u brush paint, thin the paint more... my secret is ratio 1:8 or 1:10 ... then dip the brush into the color, before touching the model surface, lightly touch the end of the brush onto a tissue paper or towel so that the paper will absorb excess paint on the brush.. only small load is needed.. brush with one light stroke.. avoid going back and forth onto the same direction. move to the next surface..
do this until one layer is complete.. for very thinned paint, only after a few layer you will get solid paint layer (normally after 6 layers , in my case).. to aid drying, use slow setting hair dryer (borrow from sister, mom, wife etc) ... keyword is patience...
this will eliminate brush stroke.. and use only qood quality brush... round tip is best..get no 1 and 0, and 2... nylon brush that sold in Popular book store pon ok....if you got the budget, invest in good quality brush... or later invest in airbrush / compressor...

some paints dried pretty fast (Mr Color, Giaia etc), so my advised try to avoid it unless u mix them with retarder or levelling thinner .. i used vallejo for all my brush painting and those day i used gunze aqueous paints.... they work marvel

what do u mean two side??
izit separated??

cutting it would be the best choice....

depending on the separating line... kalau straight aje then takde masalah cutting it... but if it;s not straight, u may attached the part together, apply decal in one piece, let it dry..then carefully slice the line with a sharp knife...

Hi, all..
anyone can tell me about how to use the metal primer ? because i never use it before? and it got how many type of it ? apply on metal before coloring or ??and it necessary for metal part ??

thankyou
*
all metal must be prime...this is to let the paint adhere best on the surface.... actually any primer will do the job not limited to the one that labeled metal primer...

if u glued the part already.... there are 2 solutions

1. freezed to death method

Put ur part into a small cup, put water and let it freeze...leave overnight and take it out and let the ice melted..after that try to fry it open...if cannot, put it back in the freezer (with water)..make the parts complete submersed in water.... repeat the step until the part detached... it can be a few cycle depending on the quantity of glue used

2. Brake Fluid Dot3

soak the part with brake fluid, leave overnight.... some said petronas dot 3 work best.... this method however, turn ur plastic into brittle..

my 2 cents

u may cut the nub with cutter etc and leave about 2-3mm join... dont cut right at the edge. leave some... then touch up with a SHARP knife
then start sanding

start with coarse grit.... 200, then move to finer grit

my fav is start with 200, then 400 then 800 and then 1000 or 1500 then 2000.. 1500 is enough ... unless the part will be in metallic then u will not get finer than that... cukup sampai 1500 or 2000.. tiny scratches will be remove with paint... but not with metallic..

if u didnt plan to paint and if u need to polish, there are many polish available.. but being cheap i used autosol..gosok sampai it's turn oily then gosok lagi sampai berkilat

toothpaste pon boleh guna as they contain abrasive agent...

cloth?? any cloth boleh ma... i used kertas tissue aje....

guys, i ve messed up my topcoat using arcrylic flat coat any solvent besides ammonia    (cause i tried hunting it down and it seems hard to find in mlk) to remove it? underneath it is lacquer paint.I m still on the fence using enamel thinner..
*
for acrylic, u can use this wash detergent called Kuat Harimau (made in alor gajah, melaka) drool.gif

based on my experience, even a fully cured paint job, will easily removed... just soak the model into a warm bath of kuat harimau...depending on the paint cured time, sometimes in just 1 hr u will see the result..then slowly brush the surface with an old toothbrush... sometimes tough paint job require to soak in overnight.. hope this help..this is the cheapest method i developed...hehe

beginner in painting; have a question on panel lining >.<

i'm painting my model with lacquer paint and after leaving it to try, i wanted to do panel lining (red) instead of black directly from lining marker.

and correct my step if its wrong
paint (lacquer) > top coat (oil base) > panel lining > top coat again?

so shud i use lacquer paint to panel line or other type of paint?

thanks for helping ^^
*
for panel lining, i normally use acrylics or something water color... the secret ingredients and recipe :

mix 80% water with 20% color ...kacau hingga sebati
then add 3-4 drops of dish washing detergent (dont use cap ayam...) glo and sunlight work best...
then kacau lagi till bubbling
then the love potion is ready...

just apply it on the line...no need to worry about accuracy or comot3 as this will be fix in the next step
let it dry......sometimes just 20-30 mins depending on paint type and mixture ratio of sabun ..
when it dry, use tissue paper/cotton bud and wipe away along the line... all the comot2 will be removed and the color will remain in the recess area..

the keyword here is glossy and smooth surface.... the surface should be very smooth and glossy so that the color wont adhere to the surface hard.. so easy to wipe away.... somtimes the color degil to remove, so use warm water and slowly wipe away......

hope this help...ganbatte! thumbup.gif
