QUOTE(di3hard @ Mar 28 2013, 12:43 PM) how bout those metallic color customization that is posted in gundamguy blog. if you are a newbie, simplest to get a high bling is to use gaianotes starbright series or gunze's super metallic series. metallic particles on that are quite good. simple as well- just paint it on!I wanna do something like that with my Nu Ver kat~ otherwise, get mr metal series, which requires you to paint on, then buff with a soft cloth. i hear that is quite good as well if you've been painting for a while, and know what you need to do to get a high gloss finish, then try either alclad or black magic powder. both these will give you a very good mirror finish. BUT prep work before needs to be close to perfect. a high gloss black coat needs to be laid down first, before final treatment. if you want to know more about the paints etc etc, you can try looking at mgs2u.com for pricing and stock. google the names to find out more on how to use. all the best in achieving it, and post some pics when you're done! |

QUOTE(General_Nic @ Mar 29 2013, 01:06 PM) can. but i find that zippo dries very fast, and if you have excess paint which you want to use the next day, you can't "rehydrate" the paint with zippo fluid. hope i make sense on the second part |

be careful of zippo fluid too, too much may start to "eat" away your base paint(lacquer).

QUOTE(General_Nic @ Mar 29 2013, 01:27 PM) errr.. no.. lets take normal lacquer paint as an example. you mix up some paint on a plate/palette and do painting. then cos tomorrow you still wanna continue, you leave the paint to dry then later just add in some thinner and you can use the paint as normal again right? well if you use zippo fluid as the solvent for enamel thinner, you can use it to thin down the paint out of the bottle. but after the paint cures on the plate, you cannot add in zippo fluid to "rehydrate" the paint again. hope this explanation makes it easier to understand.. |

QUOTE(shauno @ Mar 29 2013, 02:09 PM) errr.. no.. Correct me if I'm wrong, but for handpainting at least, most enamels can be used straight out of the can/tin/bottle right? Also, do you know if the gaianotes starbright series, gunze metallic/super metallic/mr metal series are suitable for hand painting? I remember reading that these are lacquer paints and I gather those dry pretty fast |

Like Humbrol and Tamiya enamels for eg. well, enamel paints do take a slightly longer time to dry, but i like to add a slight bit of thinner to make the whole painting process slightly easier. I remember reading that these are lacquer paints and I gather those dry pretty fast i think all paints are ok for handpainting, just use a bit of retarder to make the paints dry slower and you're all good! easiest way out is to use gaia's brush master or gunze's leveling thinner |

Hi,
I'm wondering how strong is Tamiya's epoxy putty (quick type) since I'm in the progress of recasting my MG Heavyarms shoulder joint which twisted clean off.. will it hold as long as standard gundam plastic? does it wear out faster than normal plastic? thanks. QUOTE(mdshaman @ Apr 4 2013, 09:59 PM) Hi, defiantly will not be as strong as plastic. it will probably be good for a substitute, but don't expect it to be as good as plastic. instead of recasting, why not just glue it back?I'm wondering how strong is Tamiya's epoxy putty (quick type) since I'm in the progress of recasting my MG Heavyarms shoulder joint which twisted clean off.. will it hold as long as standard gundam plastic? does it wear out faster than normal plastic? thanks. |
