brand name does affect reliability, quality and after sales service

how good is asus, sony and lenovo after sales service i don't know, but seems reliability wise 3 brands macam quite ok, but then again it all depends on luck lol

You can use GPU-Z to monitor your graphic card's temp; HWMonitor and Everest for most of your hardware's temp. If possible, make it like a casual science project where temperature are recorded based on starting up, idle, load, long hours etc so you can know your lappy better smile.gif .

Just routine check would be fine, like specs, keyboard, buttons etc. The Y460 box only contained the laptop, battery, adapter+cord and setup guides manual.

P/S: I've updated the OC score on the 1st page so feel free to comment. smile.gif

Welcome to the club!  rclxms.gif
I think the recent Y460s are already w/ the latest BIOS, so no need to flash. Mine manufactured @16th March and it's already on the latest BIOS version so you guys can use it as a guide.

@marky

I think you still can get the i5 430M, but you might have to go to LYP/DM to check with them to see whether stocks available.

mine also manufactured @ 16th March 2010...means i also nonit 2 flash the bios? rclxms.gif

Just use CPU-z to check on your laptop BIOS.

Go search for the seller in garage sale (ahem, he's from T**ping). He quoted me RM3500 for Y460 + RM30 hassle-free postage to your door step.

This is a common scene in LYP whereby they'll know the stock availability of other shops and decide whether it's own price should remain/jack up/lower down. If you have an item which is hot selling and there's no stocks on other shops, I'm sure you'll jack it up too to make more profit sweat.gif . The other way to avoid this would be order from shops and wait for the stock to arrive, as you let them know the SRP 1st and see how much discount they can give. If agree, pay the down payment and wait.

Hey guys, noob question: I want to put an SSD into the Y460, but unfortunately I don't have a budget to buy a high capacity one, probably only could afford a 80GB disk. Is the laptop limited to only 1 slot and do you think it would be worth the hassle to use an 80GB SSD only?

Storage isn't my main concern btw, all my movies and songs are mostly on the externals. But I do play alot of games, which could take up alot of space...

You'll get the most performance gain from SSD upgrade.
It is a MUST upgrade for notebook if you want to boost the overall performance.
64GB or 80GB should be find.

Yes, there is only 1 slot for your notebook.

It depends on whether there is a "warranty void" sticker on cover under the notebook.

For Acer, there is sticker right on the screw hole. You have to tear the sticker before you can remove the screw and cover.
However, for ASUS, i think there is no sticker.

I check with Acer SC, they say they will honor the warranty as the warranty is based on the S/N of the notebook.
They don't really look at the "warranty void" sticker.

You check any "warranty void" sticker on the cover under the notebook.
If no, you can just open the cover and slot in the SSD.
